ALL OF YOU COLONIZERS IN THE THREAD, POST THE POPULATION OF YOUR MOST POPULOUS SYSTEM RIGHT NOWMy most populous is 46 million, I'm working on a lot of systems right now.
Gotta travel 5000 ly from start to unlock Palin, is there anything worth going to that's that far out or should I just hitch a ride on the Colonia bus?I still need to get the Guardian unlocks but idk how far out the Guardian sites are>>2168591Probably not, it sounds like a fun idea but I like being able to do bubble activities and being away for weeks sounds boring.
>>2168591yesi wish fleetcomm's discord server wasn't such a fucking mess, it's cool that they want to do a bunch of side things but christ it's hard to even find the place to sign up for launch day instances
>>2168591I genuinely don't care about exploration in Elite Dangerous. That has come and gone, and all I see with regard to exploration as gameplay is people desperately clutching at the shadow of a long dead idea. There is nothing out there in the game, and all it amounts to is going out there to get your account name graffiti'd across a false eternity where it will only last until the servers go offline. The servers could be taken offline tomorrow.
>>2169235In fact, all this shit really just makes the game itself less mysterious, and the mystery of space is the only reason I gave a rats ass. Letting players put their names on systems was a mistake.
There really should be some rare shit to discover

Is there a way to tell which powers are involved in a Conflict Zone before entering it? The only contested system for my power has like 8 other powers in it
>>2168591I always like the idea of Distant Worlds but when it comes to actually committing to it I become completely unmotivated so I guess I'll just skip it.
Finally got my fleet carrier, time to do narco terrorism in favor of SIRA
>>2171282Where is SIRA located? Once I'm done colonizing for the Feds I might consider expanding one or two new SIRA controlled systems.
I want to set up a colony just to have a place to call home, but I'm having a damn hard time deciding where to put it. None of the third party tools make it easy to find a candidate, spansh has nearly every filter you need but it isn't easy to find systems that contain at least one ring
>>2171315All over the place:https://inara.cz/elite/minorfaction/38108/I'm currently trying to take over the systems in the Scutum Dark region
>>2171457If it were easy to find this way someone else will have gotten it already unless its really far away from any bridges/the bubble.
>>2171468Fair enough. Found a landable world with a ring ~230 Ly from Sol within colonization range, only downside is the primary port is around a gas giant, which the guides I've seen seem to think is bad?
>>2171497The primary port is such a useless eyesore that it's best to ignore it and build everything else as if it weren't there. Register to FDev forums and add to the whining every time the topic of them letting us decommission it comes up.

Thought about getting involved in that Powerplay thing, but I am bored to tears of conflict zones and don't see a point given the statistical realities.

>>2173702as far as I can tell all (orbital?) refinery economies export Tritium, regardless of whether its present in-system

>>2173910>1 carrier load per dayDid that take you like, two weeks straight?
From reading the guides I know I want both a surface and an orbital refinery to source materialsI kind of want to build the orbital as an Asteroid Base (they're cool), but if I have it right I'll miss out on the 140% base refinery strength (and 140% industrial) from orbiting a Rocky Ice World. My question is, how bad is this hit going to be? I'm only going to use it to build up the rest of the system, not make a mini-bubble, and I'm willing to take a small hit for the asteroid aestheticPic related, Coriolis on top, Asteroid on bottom
>Finally regain enough skill to consistently kill Basilisks>Only about 55 ARX versus 45 average for Cyclops despite way tougher fight
>>2174670As long as you keep extraction from surpassing industrial or refinery in the top two slots, you should be good. How many slots are on the planet? If it's just one, you're screwed. Two you can at least build a refinery hub to keep refinery as the #1 slot, three you could also build an industrial settlement to make sure extraction stays in third.
>>2174844There's 4 slots, the pic I posted was with a planned 1 civilian outpost, 1 refinery, 1 industrial settlement>As long as you keep extraction from surpassing industrialHow bad is Ext / Ref / Ind (in that order)? The surface outpost is going to be Ref / Ind / Ext, but it's going to be almost impossible to get an orbital Asteroid base to have Refinery or Industrial higher than Extraction. I still don't understand how the "cannibalizing" works, is it fine to have a Ref/Ind ground outpost linked to a Ext/Ref orbital port?
>>2174953Extraction being in the lead has a good chance of cannibalizing the third place industry materials needed for colonization. You might have to ditch the asteroid base idea if you REALLY want to be sure you produce all the materials needed for colonizing.
>>2174974>Extraction being in the lead has a good chance of cannibalizing the third place industry materials needed for colonizationGotcha, so this means my asteroid will most likely not export industrial goods, but will it also "eat" the industrial goods coming out of the surface port? I don't mind making the extra trip down to the planet, since I only want to build a few stations rather than a whole mini-bubbleThe primary port >>2173702 will also supply a few industrial goods, I think.

Anyone have RES show up in their colony? I've got some rocky rings but so far no RES
Yeah I have a bunch in multiple different systems. Pretty sure I've had them appear right after finishing the primary port, but if not the Thursday tick might gen them.

If Elite Dangerous is going to go forward and Frontier is serious about utilizing it, it needs to be fixed so it's far more user-friendly.May genuinely be time to sunset it and make a new game.

Man, the rank progression is just fucked. My chief activity is chilling around the Pleiades killing Interceptors to earn the weekly ARX quota and yet I haven't advanced more than 20% towards Combat Elite I. Meanwhile, I only do some token participation in shipping CGs and yet, voilá.
Is this the best space game ever or what.
>>2187502Depends who you ask. It certainly scratches an itch but it's not very deep. For me it's autistic scanning with exploration. Ship building is also fun
>>2187502It's only the "best" because there's nothing else like it.
>>2187502I don't know if I'd say that. I do like Elite a lot though. Its probably the best exploration sim, though. And a very (the best/most) relaxing space-trucking game.X4 has it beat for overall space sandbox, even Star Citizen in its state, Eve online and NMS are better in some regards.
>>2187037I mean what is there more too add? I think they need to keep updating current ED, it runs well, it still looks good, there isn't much to improve on at a fundamental level, my current Wishlist would be that>Ship interior>ability to create a squad with AI commander that follow you around>same as above but for planetary pve or exploration>slowly try to shift away from the core bubble by making some kind of 'gate' that would link us a new bubble growing elsewhere>more weapon variety instead of new ships
>>2187601I want atmospheric planets with an actual atmosphere. Volumetric clouds from orbit to surface would be awesome. Imagine procgen storm systems.
>>2187977That would be very nice, I can imagine some atmospheric planet with esoteric meteorology, which also happen to have very valuable relics, the more dangerous the planet is, the more valuable the relics on the ground are. And you have event like stalker emission but ranging from many different type of climate, and forces you to always be careful
>>2188256Death stranding in space, in that the environment is the main threat, sounds very appealing. I also want to fly in the upper layers of gas giants. But all that is so much work it may as well be a distant dream
>>2188265Well Frontier isn't going to make a new Elite game I believe, space sims aren't as followed as they were back in 2015-2016. A sequel to Elite: Dangerous would be too much of a gamble, they could try to create another content expansion instead, I wouldn't mind paying for that again, but after odyssey they clearly have no idea what to do despite the community asking for the same thing ad nauseam, so we'll see.
>>2187977This game definitely needs meteorologyMaybe some actual pop dynamics to add depth to faction play tooActually there is just so much that can be done to further flesh out the gameplay. It's a fucking shame devs are squandering all this potential
It gets increasingly cringe and irritating how a group of people LARPing on Discord are treated as though they're the official game-influencing word when it comes to things being official within Elite.
>>2188421For instance, "Grom is actually on the Imperial side in the enclave and not on the Independent side he was sided with in the actual CG by FDev." and "The war is paused due to Distant Worlds 3. Everyone should stop trying so my specific power can bulldoze."And then you have the cringey fanfiction-laden DW3 shit where they demand people don't use elements of the game under threat they'll remove them from any participation award list if FDev opts to give them an emblem.
>>2188424I am once more vindicated by staying away from other people and just doing my own thing.
>>2188424>The war is paused due to Distant Worlds 3.the fuck?
>>2188954GalNet Digest put out a video claiming that the war over the Radicoida is on pause due to DW3. No, it fucking isn't.Some people in the community really piss me off.

>>2171011Was reading the sign-up of Distant Worlds 3.You basically agree to do nothing aside from casually journey on the fleet carrier for months and be a good little boy, playing along with the fanfiction thought up by the organizers. The entire expedition and the PG have been infiltrated by gankers who plan on burning the entire fucking thing down.Good.

>>2200017nta but I wish fdev would fix this somehow, even if it means adding new systems or selectively reducing the brightness around the 'box' Colonia sits in.Same for that line of dense stars, I know they come from real life data but the rest of the procedural galaxy clashes hard with it.
>>2200017It's beautiful

>>2200098Those IRL surveyed regions of stars in this game are a good visual indicator that our original estimate of 400 billion is way off. Procgen based on that 400B number + estimated mass of the galaxy gives us what we see in most of the game, but everywhere we've actually looked IRL the star density is at least 10x higher.
This game has amazing atmosphere sometimes.I just wish it wasn't a grindfest.
>>2200739And to think, none of us will be alive to visit a single one. More stars than grains of sand, more planets than motes of dust, and we can't even get to Alpha Centauri.
>>2200739They could just fix it by adding globular clusters around some of the problem points.
>>2201107"Where is everybody?" -FermiPerhaps no one will ever be. There seem to be good reasons why intelligent species will wipe themselves out before leaving their home systems.
>>2201651The Fermi Paradox always seemed very pseud to me. There's no reason to assume other intelligent species ever existed in the past. If there were evidence of it we would've picked up on it by now, since the light of every star in the sky is old. Intelligent life could exist right now and we won't see it until the light reaches Earth.
>>2202105Intelligent life could exist right now and have actively broadcasted a signal to us, and we would probably never know, because there is just so much to look out for, and if they're anything like our own attempts to send communications, they've all been drop-in-the-bucket broadcasts where the targets were selected for proximity or local significance rather than habitability, and were broadcasted for so short a time it'd be entirely possible to just miss it from the radio telescope being at the wrong spot in its sweep pattern. Entire broadcasts could have been sent to us for thousands of years and we would never know because we didn't have dick for communication until the past hundred years
i hate the way the distant worlds fags organize things but that first waypoint they picked is cool as fuck
>>2202105In the right conditions intelligent life should be quite likely to form.Like >>2202170 says, it's very difficult to detect intelligent life attempting to communicate, if they are some pre-interstellar civilization.Interstellar civilizations should spread pretty quickly, in cosmological time scales. So why haven't we seen any large interstellar empires, which ought to be fairly obvious? There are a number of possibilities, but it sure looks like the sort of competitive species required to develop advanced technology also tends to wipe itself out before attaining interstellar travel. Eventually someone gets the brilliant idea to "cleanse" the species and they nuke/plague/etc. themselves out of existence.Maybe the purple-antlers even manage to successfully wipe out the orange-antlers without killing themselves. Then the bent-purple-antlers wipe out the straight-purple-antlers, and so on. And then one day they all die from inbreeding as their genetic diversity drops below critical levels. An intelligent species is likely to possess the power to wipe themselves out LONG before they gain the wisdom to prevent it.The best we can do is dream of space, because I'm not too sure any of our descendants will actually get to explore it.
>>2203420Yes but if this had happened in the past we would have detected it by now if the filter marker is any kind of technology.Best that can be expected is other life forms exist right now, but we wouldn't be able to detect it due to time dilation. There is no filter, there is no fermi paradox, its only the fact that the stars and signals we see are too old due to the distances involved. As a result you get pseud theories that seem blind to this fact instead concluding "they must all have wiped out!"
>>2203773>time dilationMeant to say light lag.
>>2203773>blind to this factI think the idea is that, best guess, the conditions for life-supporting worlds would have been possible in our universe around ~6 billion years ago. Our own planet is ~4 billion years old, so there's no reason to believe there wouldn't be a space empire with a couple billion years head start on us. That gives us a theoretical spacefaring-civilization-detection-radius 2 billion light-years across, which is pretty damn big. We ought to see something. So "light lag" would account for hiding civilizations outside our 2bly bubble, with the other proposed solutions to the Fermi paradox covering the space within.
>>2203773The galaxy is only tens of thousands of light years across. That's nothing on evolutionary time scales. You don't even need to think billions of years like >>2204009 says.It would be very implausible if a species that had the competitive drive to develop a space-faring civilization then failed to expand across the galaxy despite surviving millions of years. If a galaxy-spanning civilization were still around, it should be fairly obvious. On the other hand, if there are a hundred intelligent species that reached interplanetary travel before murdering each other with nukes or other wmds within the last 100m years alone, and in this galaxy alone, the chance that we'd even have any signals to detect is well under 0.1%. Heck, a hundred civilizations could have risen and fallen every million years and we'd probably not have any signal to detect for thousands of years. It is probably very difficult for a species to build the sort of species wide cooperative behavior needed to survive. We certainly aren't doing a good job of it.It's not even entirely our fault, because we (and every other technologically advancing species) are necessarily playing a multi-round game of chicken where we can choose to cooperate or take advantage of the other faction, with the stakes growing higher and higher each round. When there are many players (and the penalties are small), the ones that cooperate can outperform and survive. But when there are few factions (coalescing with the progress of technology), the logic of this game isn't easily survivable, unless you can force every faction to cooperate, somehow.
>>2203773>>2206163>>2204009Its likely that sapience and higher ability to reason is the actual rare trait for life. There's probably thousands (millions?) of alien life forms across the galaxy but all of them are just basic animals.

>>2209568My assessment is they're working on a couple small features that'll let you teleport to an explorable ship for on-foot pve combat regardless of your location in the galaxy and some stuff for guilds (squadrons). The rest of their resources are going towards shitting out cash shop ships and paying off all the youtubers to fellate them openly about how things are changing and improving for the game and company while little content actually appears.

>>2211846Maybe they should publish an article like this only you can see ingame whenever you return from the black with millions of credits worth of exo scans.
You are put in charge of overhauling Exobiology and Exploration. What do you do?
>>2212813Simple.1. Make the black hostile. Outside of the bubble the black should be dangerous. Talking stuff like random turbulence strength on Neutron stars, deep space radiation zones that slowly damage your ship, harsh atmospheres that interfere with your landing, meteor storms. The Blakc is just too safe with the only downside being you're away from civilization.2. Overhal planet gen, more varied terrain and add caves and rivers, with new exobiology that only spawns in caves or next to or in rivers.3. Some planets have weather systems now, Ranging from light rain to heavy thunderstorms that can damage your ship, dust storms.4. Balance payouts completely between them. Exploring and DSS is completely worthless to Exobiology. Theres no reason an earth like world discovery should be max 4,000,000 when even less rare stratum tectonicas nets you 95,000,000 just like that. Earth likes, ammonia and water worlds should be just as valuable. As well as DSS scanning planets should also be valuable.5. Fauna, pretty simple but not talking no mans sky of absurdity but grounded and realistic that you can scan. Some are hostile to you too so you have to take precautions out in the black.6. Scarab MKII SRV which includes an exploration drone bay. You can use this to scan an area lets say 500m and it will count all biology as 1. Can be engineered to 1000m range and shorter scanning times.

>>2217171elite gets exploration wrong though...
>>2218071Yeah. Exploration in Elite is shit. There's nothing to find and all it does is let people vulnerable to addiction fall down a rabbit hole. I see some people doing exploration and all I see is an elderly person on the slot machines.
Do any of you know what tools are good/available for Arch specifically CachyOS (like that matters) I'd prefer to install from the terminal as you do but I imagine there will be some workarounds if that's not possible. I've spent the last 3+ months building up my own little mini bubble in space by myself about 700ly from the bubble, but I'm getting the urge to go out along the bridge and start colonizing near one of the nebula 5kly out. Help me, I'm losing control of my life.
>>2224109Maybe 0.1% of the stars have been visited. I'd guess at most 10% of the stars in an 8kly radius has been visited, probably much less in the 5kly to 10kly range. You are probably inadvertently following in some other explorer's trail. Use a random number generator to pick a direction instead of picking based on intuition or whatever. You should start hitting virgin territory 2kly out at most. Last time I went exploring I started hitting unexplored stars less than 1klyr from the edge of the bubble, and it can't have changed that much in the last few years.
>>2224671nta, I thought it was closer to 0.4%, they released some numbers at one point. Anyway the problem is that you can filter for desirable systems, even without going into how the cells and stellar codes work you can just filter by ignoring colder stars so the end result is all the obviously good systems that have high potential for valuable or interesting finds get explored but there's a shit ton of worthless frozen rock systems that account for the remaining 99% of unexplored space.

Colony enjoyers, what's worth building in your colonies?I've got a refinery station going up first, and I'm planning to build an Asteroid Station in my asteroid belt. I'm not trying to supply a whole mini-bubble, so I don't feel a need to produce every single commodity for colonization.Long term I want to build a T3 station, which afaik unlocks all services, so no need to build the hubs/installations that unlock outfitting and xenobiology, etc. Use the rest of the slots to pump Tech Level or Development?
>>2267049>Use the rest of the slots to pump Tech Level or Development?Depends on what you want. Development supposedly pumps up the number of commodities your stations produce, higher tech level unlocks more ships for purchase in your station shipyards.

I honestly don't get this colonization stuff.Like it's just busy work intentionally made shitty where the only real benefit is having a system with your name on it...in a small part of a small part of the ui.Carriers are shitty permanent drains but at least they do function as mobile base of operations with large cargo holds.Colonies give you...a million or so credits every week after 100s of hours of manual work? Bitch, you can get 40-50 million in a 10 minute trading run.Even ignoring the "no unique benefit to colonies" stuff...why all the intentional busy work? Let us use our credits to hire NPC haulers. Perhaps have our power play faction be out support for colony building. Give carriers ability to dump their inventory to the colony. The colony system is just so underbaked that it is making me angry.
>>2268290yeah that's why I dropped itcarriers are super useful despite being money sinks. Excellent for bulk trade and I've also used mine for exploration to get to really hard to get to systems. Colonization just seems like the definition of time wasting

Is there any way to influence where a BGS faction expands to? I want to get up to 7 factions in my colony for more potential missions, but the local space is pretty crowded. If it's totally random and takes 2 weeks to see where they end up, this is going to take a while.
>>2284745No, faction expansion is largely random. You personally can't influence expansion targets.
>>2285453The expansion range is max 20ly unless that faction failed to find a valid target last time it expanded, right? So I just need to find the system within 20ly of my colony, that has as few other systems within 20ly of it, preferably with a faction in control that has as few other systems as possible (so that this system is more likely to be the expansion "source").Then pump that system to the expansion state over and over until it lands on my system?
>>2285963>The expansion range is max 20lyIt's a 20 x 20 cube centered on the expansion system, so it's anywhere between 20ly and ~34.6ly depending on where that system falls in the cube

Will Fdev ever make it so you can change the station type of the primary port in colonies? Frustrating that the stats of the primary receive huge buffs while the rest of the stations get nerfed, so if you want to build a T1 to lock down a station (and not want to kill yourself hauling 270,000 tons) your system is permanently behindI know they've said it's impossible to change which site is the primary due to engine limitations, but being able to "upgrade" the existing primary would be a massive QoL change

Trying to unlock Professor Palin, is my best bet for getting the 25 sensor fragments just farting around a dead Titan?

Whatever else can be said about colonization, the fact that people went to the raw material systems and set up installations just to make them infinitely easier to spot is a godsent.
>>2290278y-yeswhats the name
I miss the days in which we'd get leaks, no news ever nowadays even when "operations" is around the corner supposedly.
>take firebrand op to assassinate someone for faction since it's the only missions available to raise their influence>jump into the system and get a "haha oh no we don't know where they are, you'll have to illegally scan a settlement to find out!" message>do so, get trespassing bounty, then get a mission update telling me it's 200,000ls away because fuck you of course it is>waste 12 minutes flying over there and drop into mission target>civil war so it's system security attacking system security, join in on allied system security ships in attacking my target>get bounty, because of course I do>kill the target who of course is in a python because they're always in pythons, get more bounty>mission doesn't even complete despite me killing my mission target and getting the bounty for it>allied system security now attack me because I killed the system security ship they were already fighting>jump back out, jump back in, kill target again, mission still not completed>now have a million credit bounty and FUCKING 5 NOTORIETY for killing three ships maxI am never taking another dogshit fucking combat mission in this buggy as trash game again, holy FUCK it completely wasted all of my time just to force me to abandon the mission. FUCK

Ok/10. Not really worth using over the Mandalay unless you have a clear neutron highway path. The default paint kinda sucks tho.
>>2281002>The paint schemes for it are shit though. This has been a reoccurring pattern for the last couple of years. For whatever reason FDev just refuses to give newer ships a selection of the more simple/classic paint schemes. Despite the fact that there seems to be a demand for them so players can 'match' to the rest of their ships.
So how ridiculous is the inevitable combat large for ARX gonna be?

I am currently building colonies in the NGC 6357 nebula. Feels good man.
Almost done engineering my iCourier, when I'm done should I start on an iEagle or a CobraV? The latter is objectively better but it might have so much going for it that it isn't all that fun to tinker withAny other small ship enjoyers itt?
Currently Collecting seeds in OPEN very comfortably.I meet 1 friendly dude.I doubt things will be too peaceful for long. The respawn rate of the seeds are pretty awful with just 2 people.
>>2168586Got Odyssey on the spring sale and dusted off my joystick. I'm currently doing on foot missions, mostly restore power, trying to build up some materials for engineering my guns. I'm also looking at power play stuff. So what's going on right now that a returning player should know? Also does it matter which bar tender I go to to sell goods? Like would a rich system give more or is it a flat price?
What's a good alternative to EDSM? I really like their flight log and travel map.
>>2325135got my icourier engineered for speed and i mostly use it for on foot missions, truly immersive
>>2325841Same, I've stripped that thing down to the point where it can easily cruise at 650 m/s, and filled it with advanced missile racks for blasting ground targets
>>2325605Well fuck me running this is ass cancer. My guns and suits aren't good enough to run restore missions at grade 1. I guess I have to resort to salvage missions.
>>2327288>restore missions at grade 1I have fully engineered ships and even a billion credits and I have no idea what a "restore Mission" is. I don't really touch foot gameplay at all except for community goals.
>>2327490>go to station concourse>take job>go to surface shithole>surface shithole is currently infested with interstellar pavement apes and also on fire without power>de-chimp shithole>go to building with PWR on the side>cut open janny panel to charge door>go to reactor, opening more doors as needed>put regulator in reactor and turn it on>go to each building that's on fire and vent the air>turn the air back on when the fires are goneThat's basically it. What I want them for is the ability to steal absolutely anything that isn't nailed down to upgrade my shit. Why do I want to upgrade my shit? I don't even know anymore. Assassinations pay good I suppose and I want night vision. Oh and stealing the good shit is decent money.
>Finish building a refinery in my colony>Go back to the main tier 1 port where I keep my shit>tab into the Shipyard to see if the slight boost to Tech unlocked anything new>Cobra IVgun to my head I could not have told you I preordered horizons but I guess I did. is there anything fun you can do with the CobraIV or is it a total wash?
I wish this game had a 3rd person mode. I'd like to watch my ship move around during gameplay.
>Flying to planet: 1~2 minutes>Landing: 1 Minute>Walking over to seed pod: 30 seconds>Shooting seed pod: 1 second>Waiting for the fucking seed to fly off and land so i can actually pick it up: 6 gorillion hours
I just bought 100 e-breaches. I knew they were illegal, but will my ship be shot to hell if I get scanned or are they just illegal on foot?
>>2328223Only illegal if you carry them on foot and get scanned.
>>2327837I don't know shit about the Cobra IV, but how big is your colony senpai?
I have straight up never done any Odyssey content other than exobiology so this is my first time even touching the guns. Is the pistol that fires the pink ball supposed to be the least accurate fucking thing known to man?
>>2328674All of the guns in this game are complete fucking ass. Also why do we have so few spaceship weapons?
>>2328674Its inaccurate from the hip. It's actually the best secondary if you can find a grade 2 or 3. If you're doing on foot missions, the plasma sniper is usually the go to. Starting out you'll either want to do settlement raids by landing at them and stealthily killing the guards with the sniper or by doing salvage and restore missions.
>>2328360>how big is your colonyNot very, 13.4M. Gotta finish two more large settlements to unlock a Tier 3 orbital.
>>2328900Are you actually gonna build a t3? They look pretty hellish, obscene amount of mind numbing hauling.
>>2168586Anons, how do I get good at this game? Bought to play with a friend, but the ship controls are filtering me hard, I can't dogfight and do decent turns for the life of me, played it for like 7 hours and still struggle to do turns, hips and hoops and whatnot.Tried to get a bounty going but I got packed hard by not being able to dog fight properly and one of the ships I bought (The aerodynamic one, at t1 along with the sidewinder) only having beam weapons for some reason.Games looks cool, I want to enjoy it, but I suck at the whole ship handling shtick, so much that my head hurts a bit. The fact that I am in a pitch black space doesn't help, even with the compass, sometimes I feel as if I am turning around to the same stop, lots of areas feel hella samey to me
>>2331045Control tips depend on what you're using: keyboard, gamepad or stick. Regardless, any setup works for the basic game content, only super tryhard PvP combat requires special setups.Newfag combat is basically "Medieval Jousing IN SPACE". Because of the way the flight system works, you're going to be doing 8-shaped turns firing at each other until one of you dies. You use the yaw (vertical tilt) and roll to turn, ED ships have terrible pitch.Ships have shields and hull. Thermal (beam weapons) as a rule of thumb deal good damage against shields, but are terrible against hulls. Kinetic are the inverse. So you use beams to bring down the enemy shield and kinetic weapons (I suggest autocannons) to bring down the hull and kill them.Buy an Eagle if you want to do basic combat missions. Do courier missions with the Sidewinder to gather cash for now (and get you used to the controls) if you don't want to do exploration shenanigans.
>>2331128>You use the yaw (vertical tilt) and roll to turn, ED ships have terrible pitch.uh anon, vertical tilt is pitch, yaw is the side-to-side turn that is generally terrible in ED (though several of the new FOMO ships have insane yaw so Fdev might be changing that in the future)
>>2331128My issue is that I mostly struggle to make turns and change my direction while piloting. Yeah, I owned an Eagle, and that ended with me jobbing hard in a bounty hunt to two shitty pirate ships. Tried doing the trick of going up ans down to change position, but this often got me lost and made me loop around my own axis.Playing on keyboard, dunno if the game feels better on a gamepad
>>2331045You may want a stick for this game. Not a requirement by any means, but I personally couldn't play without mine. I use a Saitek x52, now Logitech x52 after Saitek got bought out. It'll work out of the box as the game supports it natively. Not only that, but the in game models for the throttle and stick are modeled after the x52.Since you still have your sidewinder, just focus on doing courier missions and learning how to fly. The sidewinder isn't good for much else. You could also try to do some salvage at signals you find in space. Just make sure they're tier 0 or tier 1.
>drop out of orbital cruise>game glitches takes a while to connect to the new instance>meanwhile my ship maintains its speed and flies straight through the planet, reach -40km>expect to load in ~15kM above the surface>instead load -1m below the surface and instantly explodehow do you avoid this besides alt+f4 the minute you see it start to chug?
>>2328941>Are you actually gonna build a t3?Not quickly. I chip away at colonization whenever I'm in the mood to do hauling. It's not the best money but it's nice to see my colony slowly building up.
The CG was completed so fast I didn't have time to do it.Bruh.
>>2328941>>2333415>tfw do all my colonization solo>tfw watch a group build up an entire 100 slot system with multiple dodecs in a week>tfw it takes me three days to build a single coriolis
damn that was the fastest CG in yearsscrolling through inara it's the first one that's finished early since 2024 but that one still went 6 days
>Forum dads on the forums mad cause they missed out.Good.CGs are supposed to be competitive.
>start game>do tutorial>take a mission>transport shit >get to where i have to deliver>had my guns out or some shit>get a fine>get shot>respawn somewhere, have to taxi my ship back there and have to wait 15 real life minutesdamn
>>2332595I should also add that courier missions are dogshit money, as are most missions in general. Once you learn to fly, the easiest way to get properly started is by doing exploration. Just buy a discovery scanner, d rated modules to save weight, and the best FSD you can afford.
>>2334154only on the dad forums would they cry about too many people playing the game
>>2335469The funniest thing is most CGs you can do 75 percent in about 2-3 hours. That's it. Just 2-3 hours, maybe a bit more if you need to travel.
>Go on long exploration trip.>Find many planets and plants.>Coming back with trillions in data.>Find a planet on the way back>Lightly tap the surface while looking for plants and Hull goes from 95 to 0>Lose everything. There are no words for how I feel right now. After a while though I stopped caring.
>>2335972I had this happen to me several years ago at this point returning from the galactic ceiling. Died and lost weeks worth of data, stopped playing the game entirely for about a year.
>>2335972This is why I run shields on my krait phantom.Which reminds me, is the phantom still one of the best ships for some 'splorin or are there better options now?
>>2336376Looks like the Mandalay is what everyone loves for the medium explorer. But it looks like shit so the phantom wins again.
>>2336376Mechanics-wise the new ships are undoubtedly better. The Mandalay can do everything a turbo-fine-tuned Exploraconda could do, but better and while handling at least as well as a Phantom, and the Caspian can make Neutron Highway trips at a fraction of the time.
>>2337091I think I'll finish engineering my phantom. I like the cockpit on it too much. I do want a caspian though. I saw someone say they went from Beagle point to the bubble in 5 hours. Which blows my fucking mind. I was apart of DW2 and to get out to Beagle point would take like a month or more back then.
>>2337268>they went from Beagle point to the bubble in 5 hours*in a caspianThe neutron boost on those things is nuts.
>>2337268i've been using the caspian on dw3 quite a bit, it is as ridiculous as everyone says it is. Takes about an hour to go 20kly so I've been going completely off the path wherever I feel like
>>2337268>>2337463So will exploration die soon due to the OP ship
>>2337571lol noGame has been around for a decade and less than 1% of the galaxy has been explored.
>>2337636Because people didn't have magical teleportation ship under them
>>2337648People have spent every moment in-game, in the deepest blackest parts of the galaxy from the very start. This won't make a dent.
>>2337648And the galaxy is fucking massive. I seriously doubt we'll ever see more than 0.5% of the galaxy explored.
>>2336376I was using the Mandalay and I had shields. I'm not sure if it was a physics glitch but I died immediately, going medium speed looking for plants.
>>2337571Every time one of you motherfuckers does this "the galaxy feels so stuffed now!" schtic you reveal you don't ever move from the bubble, or at best the usual explored corridor leading to Sag A* and have no conception of how mindbogglingly fucking massive the map is.
What is the best way to grief players? I want to get into ganking carebears but I dont know where to beginAre there specific places to go to or something?
>>2339104This.The ONLY Places I see other players are:1. Founder's world2. Community Goals3. Engineers
>>2339193>ganking carebearsKeep in mind that everyone who is gankable has chosen to play in Open.
