I was really hoping it wasn't going to be the case, very grim

So I tried it. It's in many ways better than the original but also worse in many ways too. Feels less "soulful" if you will. Some systems are pretty great on paper like 3* limit break skills but they just had to make them random instead of allowing to unlock all of them for more strategic depth, and rerolling them needs more dupes, so that's a pain in the ass.
They are currently mismanaging the fuck out of it, theres a LOT of bugs and the main draw of the game - the marketplace, where you can trade characters and items wih other players is closed since like 2 weeks ago now and has no reopening ETA.
Cryptoshit is not even available until they reopen the market probably, if you only care about the game you can ignore it completely unless thye decided to add in-game items exchange for it or something.
It's like 1.8 stars on googleplay lmao. with 5k+ downloads. I think it won't last a year, but the devs are reactive on the off. discord and I think it's a pretty obvious passion project. So I'll ride it out for nostalgia and who knows, maybe they'll get their shit together eventually. Can't recommend it unless you really loved Kanpani.
Gacha standards nowadays are just way higher, nobody wants to play kusoge like this except the japanese, who make up like 95% of the playerbase for this. And even then it's apparently less than 1k people now after ppl quit in droves over the market closing and over cheaters who abused a bug that gave way too many stamina refills and now those people are hopelessly ahead and not banned lol
