Is C gear the worst thing for the replayability of gen 5? It takes up your entire bottom screen for the whole game and it's completely useless now. This and the festival plaza tutorial in gen 7 are the worst implementations of online I can remember.
>>55784468the people shitting these games out are retards
>>55784468Yes, and the fact that the game always asks if you want to turn on wireless communications whenever you load your save when you could just turn it on manually while playing makes an already bad feature even worse.
>>55784468it’s funny every other gen they made the bottom screen shit.It was good in gen 4, shit in gen 5, good in gen 6, then shit in gen 7 again.
>>55784468It wouldn't have been as offensive if HGSS hadn't basically perfected the use of the bottom screen.
>>55784468I like downloading the skins off ProjectPokemon and injecting them with PKHeX whenever I play them again
>>55785542Even if it went directly from DP Poketch to C-Gear, it still would've been a massive downgrade. The Poketch had some good apps to help on your adventure. The C-Gear was almost entirely for multiplayer and now dead online services.
>>55785542>HGSS hadn't basically perfected the use of the bottom screenI think it's overrated. The only part about it I liked was how you could register two key items at once, and rarely used the touch screen to navigate it anyway. I'd say the XY bottom screen was the best one in the franchise.
>>55784468C-Gear is the worst idea brought up in gen 5, and I usually see them as games with no flaws. They walked back so much in favor of Wi-Fi features which haven't worked in 10 years (WFC was only online for 3 years of Pokemon B&W's life)
>>55784468yeah it sucks. I never even liked it at the time, now it's just total dead weight. Gen 4 had really good use of the touch screen in both Dppt and HGSS so it's really disappointing.
>>55784468If we're talking BW specifically it's the early game that takes forever to start introducing new mons.
>>55786094I'd say the low level curve and high evolution levels is worse because it makes a lot of pokemon unavailable until the end of the game or even the postgame in some cases
>>55786133this is an overblown non-issue. only seven lines in the game evolve above level 48, and only 4 above level 52. it's a little high but not unreasonable. so what if you have to use an NFE for longer? is it really that much of a hindrance?
>>55785542>set character to auto runI adored this and was shocked it wasn't in gen 5, or even DPP
>>55786094>>55786133both are a consequence of the game being absurdly linearin any other region you have access to most of the game’s pokemon by 2/3rds in so they don’t need to force high levels
>>55786202>both are a consequence of the game being absurdly linearno they're not
>>55786226yes they are
>>55786231no they're noti know you touch yourself to the thought of doing gyms out of order but making the game linear isn't why the early game options are bad or or the late game mons evolve at high levels. that's moreso a result of introducing new mons at a steady rate up until the very end of the game, and BW's smaller dex. making the game nonlinear would not solve either issue because the game being linear is not why they exist.
>>55786249> making the game linear isn't why the early game options are bad or or the late game mons evolve at high levelsBut that’s precisely why they’re bad. The other regions have better early game options because they let you explore more optional areas/routes instead of being forced into a straight line. The other regions don’t have high evolution levels because you can find basically everything in the middle of the game if you know where to explore.
>>55786200I've been playing the series in order and it's really jarring going from HGSS to BW and not having auto-run. I get that BW was developed in parallel to HGSS so a lot of features didn't make it over like following Pokemon etc, but then they still didn't re-implement it in BW2. it's baffling.
>>55786265it sounds like you're fixated on the idea of linearity being bad and are working backwards to link unrelated problems to itgamefreak could have easily put more pokemon in the early game, and made most of the dex available by midgame, while still having a linear map.
>>55786290> it sounds like you're fixated on the idea of linearity being badIt is, when the game doesn’t use the linearity to its advantage in any way.> gamefreak could have easily put more pokemon in the early gameYou’re right, they could’ve, if they made areas like the dreamyard and the daycare route accessible before the 1st gym.> and made most of the dex available by midgame, You’re right, they could’ve, if they made the region more complex and loop onto itself in different ways instead of making it a literal line.
>>55786307case in point.
>>55786316If you dump more Pokemon earlier into the game but keep the region linear you just run into a different problem where the entire back half of the game is just filled with repetitive shit you’ve already seen. Either way the game only becomes worse by being linear.
>>55786329>where the entire back half of the game is just filled with repetitive shit you’ve already seen.but i thought having everything available by midgame was a good thing? you can't have it both ways.
>>55786193it's pretty ridiculous to have 11 evolution lines that evolve at elite four levels or higher, especially when the story is based around the new pokemon and they could've easily avoided the whole situation by just having bosses be at higher levels or making the pokemon evolve at lower levels
>>55785542hgss has the worst bottom screenterrible layout, a complete downgrade to platinum's quirky poketchi honestly dont mind the bw/b2w2 bottom screensthey look stylishwish they had some functionality, but really dont mind it
>>55786374> but i thought having everything available by midgame was a good thing? It is, if it’s the result of the player having agency to explore different areas midgame.
>>55786375>11retarf
>>55786094for me, the only problem is leveling upthat exp formula is disgusting
>>55786384that doesn't actually solve the problem. if you've seen everything by midgame, then the rest of the game will be things you've seen before.you know you can just say that linearity is bad, most everyone is going to agree with you. even people who like BW. you don't need to link other problems to it in some grand unified theory of bad game design.
>>55786414> if you've seen everything by midgame, then the rest of the game will be things you've seen before.Who said you’ll see everything by midgame? If two different people play TOTK, and they’re both halfway through the game, they both could have visited completely different areas. That’s the magic of non-linear games, Unova fanboy.
>>55786421>Who said you’ll see everything by midgame?you
>>55786380poketch is nice but i think they should have let you switch between it and a proper pause menu for the bottom screen. the real downgrade in hgss is the pc storage; they removed the mass move function and it just feels laggier in general. it’s offset by not getting “saving a lot of data” everytime u use the pc and having a better bag ui though
>>55786424HGSS's bag ui is the worst in the series
>>55786423I didn’t say that though.
>>55784468it isn't
>>55786452you diddoes having everything available by midgame not mean you can see everything by midgame?by the way: kanto, the most non-linear game in the series that isn't open world, locks pokemon to lategame. everything in the safari zone, or after you get surf? that's late game. might as well throw the fishing encounters in there too because you only get in fuchsia city. and don't say "oh well you can do the gyms out of order" you still have to progress through the story surrounding them. the only major event that's non-linear is silph co., because you can do it at any point between pokemon tower and viridian gym.
>>55786380>hgss has the worst bottom screenthis is just contrarianism. there are lots of valid reasons to criticize HGSS but this isn't one of them. arguably it's a step down from the poketch, but frankly most of the poketch apps are gimmicks that you barely use. they were cool at the time, but have lost the novelty. and the c-gear is literally dead weight now. the HGSS menu remains the most functional UI of the DS era, even if not the most innovative
Locking achievements for 100% completion behind online multiplayer features was the spattered dead bug on B2W2’s pristine windshield
>>55786094I love the BW1 early game t bh. I've replayed it so many times but I still like it.I like Patrat, I like Munna, I like the cave with Drilbur. I like the starters.I like getting the daycare so early (you can even leave 1 mon there before you continue on your journey, then come back when you have fly and pick it up after and it'll have reached level 30 or so)I like the desert resort, I like the routes to the west and east of Nimbasa city. I like the shaking grass. In my playthroughs I honestly enjoy the early game the most, but usually start to get bored at or after Driftveil city.
>>55786389Shaking grass/Audino is the only xp grinding I ever enjoyed in a game. But this is partly just cuz I like catching the rare encounters. Are you trying to level up those late-game mons that evolve at ridiculously high levels? I honestly never tried to use any of the late game mons, I imagine it would be frustrating
>>55785456This, why they kept changing it anyway?
>>55785907>I'd say the XY bottom screen was the best one in the franchise.I'd say the best one goes to ORAS. It has all of XY's and more.>>55787157>AreaNav in the Rotomdex's concept artSuch a slap in the face. If only the Rotomdex's map worked like the AreaNav.
>>55786572>this badly organized shit>good
>>55787621What's the problem with it? Everything thing you need is one tap away on the bottom screen.
>>55787621Would you rather have the Pokégear be the bottom screen menu?
>>55784468Nah, they were good. Sorry you couldn't read when they came out.
