Muh phys spec split is a red herring. The split just so happened to coincide with the massive power creep of gen 4. But the fact is that gen 4 and 5 ou would not be much different at all if the split had never happened; most of the best physical moves are still physical, most of the best special moves are still special. Power creep happened as a result of new moves, buffed base power of existing moves, new items, and new pokemon. Stealth rock itself is a power creep. Only 6+ might change substantially without the split, for the lack of physical sucker/knock, you never have a rise of bisharp/mawile/weavile. Physical waters too I suppose. But the only physical water in gen 4 is gyarados. There are zero relevant physical waters in gen 5. Again more don't become relevant until 6+.

Gyarados was still good in gen 5 and banded azu saw some use too
Your right though that Dark and ghost being less broken in gens 6+ would be the main effect of no split I think

It is interesting that, from a smoggie perspective, relatively few bans were needed to ""balance"" gen 3 (whatever that means, of course)

You're back to seethe some more, I see.

Doubles is fotm. No history, no future. Don't pretend like there was ever discussion of doubles here.

In all seriousness, though, I wonder why doubles isn't organically popular the way singles is. No one cares about doubles outside of the current iteration of VGC. Why is this? Is it the fault of campaignshitters? Or maybe it's the fault of the ashnime?

When I think of pokemon battles, I think of 6v6 singles. Pick "a" lead, not pick two leads. Send out "a" pokemon, not send out two pokemon. Even the TCG has only one active pokemon at a time, does it not?

Doubles seems somewhat intriguing to me, but I have as little personal desire to learn any doubles format as I have to learn weird archaic smoggie formats like gen 1 or 2 OU.
