Not that Rhydon was an awful Pokemon, but I've heard many times over that Rhyhorn was the better design in comparison and once Rhyperior arrives, suddenly everyone cares about Rhydon. Same with any Gen IV evolution. No one gave two shits about Aipom and Lickitung until they got evolutions. All of Gen II's evos in that gen were hardly used or acknowledged until they got the boost.

>>56104709The Rhyhorn line was solidly popular. Within that, hearing Rhyhorn being better than Rhydon wasn't any more common than hearing Haunter or Kadabra being better than their evolutions. All that changed with gen 4. The line's marginal popularity and staying power comparable to what the Nidos still maintain was seemingly lost overnight and the entire line was fucking memoryholed. From then on the only time you'd EVER hear the line be brought up again was just to hear people lament over how it hit the wall. What happened to them was absolutely not a Lickitung or Aipom case
