When did gamefreak stopped caring about typing "rules" and pokemon's types actually having to make sense? Did it start with Lucario?
Or was Corviknight the true breaking point?

First instance I can think of where it became noticeable was with Incineroar. It's clear they just tacked the Dark-typing onto it out of obligation to avoid to avoid the overdone Fire/Fighting type.
>>
>>56218140
probably when they started tacking normal type on a bunch of stuff in Gen 6. there were some weird isolated cases before that, but I think that's what opened the door to abandoning tradition
>>
>>56218140
These guys and their water and steel typings respectively. It started with boxart legendaries always getting to break the rules and at this point they just let any shillmon get access to fighting/dark/ghost/steel/dragon/fairy to make sure they're "meta". Shit like Decidueye's ghost typing us just embaressingly arbitrary.

>Lucario
I mean it has metal spikes on it, and its 3D model makes it clear its “cuffs” are also metallic.
>Corviknight
Its typing makes perfect sense, it’s an armoured bird but unlike Skarmory its flying is even more core to it than its metallic nature.

If it’s more about Rookidee being pure Flying that’s just GameFreak being fucking autismos about Flying and Normal in early gens. Flying’s current identity as a mixture of both flight and air manipulation is what it should’ve been from the start, and even in Gen 1 we have a flying type that doesn’t “fly” in a conventional sense (Gyarados)

Dark in Gen 2.
>"mean-spirited, underhanded, aggressive" type
is already a pretty vague and broad descriptor. But then they just said fuck it and went "lol it's for night-affinity too" for Umbreon.
>>
>>56218320
To be fair, in the case of Umbreon.
It was made to be a Poison-type.
>>
Unironically a huge improvement. Kanto has terrible type diversity and this would vastly improve things.

Only actual complaint is Poliwrath (retarded change) and Ninetales (should be Fire/Ghost)

#0001 when the frog with a seed is somehow poisonous.

Yeah, how dare they not be predictable.
>>
>>56218140
It started with Lapras and Cloyster having ice type for no reason.
>>
>>56218335
I genuinely just forgot Poliwrath was fighting when making this picture
>>
>>56218346
>a frog is somehow poisonous

Retard detected
Do you even know what a frog is?
>>
>>56218140
Pidgeot should be Flying/Fighting

God I hate how Game Freak handles types. Also there are way too many unique and cool type combinations in this chart. Gen 8 shows that Game Freak will happily make a dex of the most bland monotypes possible
>>
>>56218140
magmar should be fire/dark
>>
>>56218140
Paras line would still be be Bug/Grass. They haven't stopped giving mushroom-based Pokemon the Grass type.
Omanyte and Kabuto would probably have different types. Rock/Bug or Steel for the Kabuto line would make sense.
Doduo line would probably be pure Ground or Normal type. Their Flying type was a leftover from when it was originally called Bird type.
>>
>>56218309
Bad example. The creation trio represent the states of matter. Solid(Dialga/steel), Liquid(Palkia/water), and Gas(Giratina/ghost)

This whole fiasco began in Unova when Game Freak forced their type quota onto the new designs. Jellicent wasn't supposed to be ghost-themed at all, but the Unova dex was sorely lacking in the ghost department so they made up some retarded lore about how they destroy ships or something and called it a day. This is in stark contrast to the Sinnoh games, where no new Fire-types outside of the starter were introduced but just they just didn't give a fuck to tweak anything.

meme complaint. ghost jellies are cool.

>tfw no Fire/Flying Yanmega
>>
>>56218806
Sinnoh introduced a Fire-type Pseudo.
>>
>>56218811

Except they weren't supposed to be Ghost types, even the creator of them said she was upset that they made them ghost type cause they weren't intended to be "mean" or some shit.
>>
>>56218230
Incineroar is a heel in pro wrestling. Heels are the bad guys who use underhanded tactics to win matches, the typing is appropriate. This has been explained countless times.
>>
>>56219163
if anything it's the fire type that's tacked on because it's a starter, really being a wrestling heel is his main identity and he should be fighting/dark, the fire stuff is like an afterthought
