Girafarig should be Psychic/Dark. Normal should be a purely elementless type, Normal also being a "beast/animal" type is pretty dumb. It's also pretty clear that the duality in Girafarig's two opposing abilities, psychic powers and biting was originally shown in Bite being a Normal-type move previously, but now Dark exists so they should've changed it. They themselves probably got attached to Normal = half animal type. Normal/Flying I can at least get, Flying is just what it can do. Water can even be argued to not be a purely elemental type, but rather a habitat one. In that regard Normal/Ice could also be justified. But Psychic is completely incongruent with Normal, which could also be another reason GameFreak did it, but then Dark is still a better fit for that.

Psychic is stage magic/cosmic forces/sometimes actual magic/general mysticism, Fairy is fae/sweet things/nature magic, both along with Electric are your usual candidates for Light-related things. Even types such as Electric and Fire which are usually relatively straight forward have some weirdos like the plasma flavoured Rotom (Electric) and the temperature/steam focused Volcanion (Fire). It’s an unironic good thing that types can be multiple things bc it allows for a greater variety without bloating the type chart and enables stuff like monotype teams (important for GLs/in-game trainers) to be less boring. Normal is “the default”, beast, non-elemental, potential, and omni-elemental. Girafarig fits into the first two and Psychic means more for its identity than Dark, so it’s still a mix of a “boring” type and a “weird” type as intended. Also nobody fucking wants Dark/Psychic Girafarig, Farigiraf is a great VGC Mon that doesn’t deserve to be slapped with one of the shittiest type combos in the game.
