This thing would be so much better without the tongue wrapped around its neck. As is it's one of the worst water starters out there, only marginally beating Samurott. Just goes to show how one design element can ruin an otherwise great 'mon.

Water starters almost always dodge being the least popular of their gen and even in the few cases where they seem like they may be last (Swampert, Primarina) they're still really popular. The only gen where water seems like it may be a big loser is the latest one, gen 9, but I'm not sure if we have enough data to know how badly.

Honestly this is one of the few times where I think a shillmon has a reasonably likable design. A ninja frog with a tongue scarf is both reasonably silly and cool, definitely a lot more charming then Lucario or Cinderance. Just unfortuate it's designated shillmon gimmick looks like dog shit, why the fuck couldn't it just get a mega or whatever over ash greninja?

The tongue breaks up the colors and adds a nice visual flair to the design that's lacking heavily when either the tongue is put away or someone does a design without it.I also appreciate the tongue mimicking clothing in a more organic way than something like Cinderace, who just comes out the box looking like he's wearing a uniform.
