A cute edition

>I want to learn the game, where do I begin?
Download PTCGL at https://tcg.pokemon.com/en-us/tcgl
The game has a quick tutorial and a bunch of decent decks to get you started against other beginners or against the AI. Some of those decks are very close to meta too. You can also go to your local game store and see if people are playing Pokémon.

>I know how to play, how do I make my own deck?
You have a decent beginner's guide at https://www.justinbasil.com/guide
There's also the old /tcg/ guide at https://imgur.com/a/W4NkOu6
After that, look up meta decks and try to reverse engineer them to see how things work.

>Where to find meta decks?
For big irl events, go to https://limitlesstcg.com/decks
For online events, go to https://play.limitlesstcg.com/decks?game=PTCG
For japanese events, go to https://pokecabook.com/archives/1417

While you are being reasonable. Pocket is still gay. 2 weeks of trialling it and I can safely say that Live is better, somehow
>>
>>56621240
Pocket is just a duel links for TCG. But whereas Yu-gi-oh needed a simplified version of the game after all the Power Creep, Pokemon is simple enough it isnt necessary.
>>
>>56621388
>Pokemon is simple enough it isnt necessary.
There's a point to be made that the amount of draw power and tutoring in Pokemon wouldn't work with smaller decks. Also, in your heart of hearts you know energy is cancer. I don't think Pocket's energy is any better, but they tried.
>>
Rate my rogue deck
>>
>>56621887
Looks good. I've been wanting to play Scovillain but never thought about pairing it with Ogerpon for the energy acceleration. Do you really need 14 energies though?
>>
>>56621887
>>56622243
My suggestion is cutting the energies to 9 and Mew ex (what is it even for?) and add 1 Earthen Vessel, 1 Energy Retrieval or Night Stretcher, and 4 Ultra Balls.
>>
>>56622654
>Mew ex (what is it even for?)
To out stall the stallers
>>
>>56621837
Just limit smaller decks to less dupes, which would mean less tutoring. but yes compare to other TCGs pokemon has by far the most tutoring, but it makes it feel like you have control over the outcome which is nice
Also you really underestimate how nice pokemon energy is, compare to fucking mana from magic. Lands are cancer. Imagine trying to find your energy but you need energy to find the energy, enjoy your brick city
>>
>>56622980
Magic player here. It's not just tutoring, ptcg has an overwhelming amount of card advantage. It's incredibly easy to get the pieces you need consistently and it makes the game more fun and competitive. Magic decks can brick l the time even at the competitive level, it's much rarer to have that happen in ptcg and you can chain cards together for explosive turns, turn around bad situations quickly
>>
>>56622844
I still don't get it. I don't see any Mew ex on your board, and it can't retreat if Snorlax is on active unless you gust it with something else

>>
>>56629293
Masters would be the absolute perfect set. We're kinda fulfilling that with the return of Trainer's Pokémon next year. But Masters has some of the most unique designs and pairings in the franchise.

Shit like sygna suit trainers would also make for great supporters in the TCG
>>
>Tyme
>Put a Pokémon from your hand face down in front of you and tell your opponent its name. Your opponent guesses the HP of that Pokémon, and then you reveal it. If your opponent guessed right, they draw 4 cards. If they guessed wrong, you draw 4 cards. Return the Pokémon to your hand.
Live devs absolutely shitting and crying right now

For those who play competitively, how is the meta right now? Is it fun, diverse, samey, expensive, cheap? I played the most in late gen 6 to early gen 7. I have fond memories of using this fucker with Regice as I didn't have the cash for any Shaymin EXs or anything like that. How does it compare?
>>
>>56630192
its fairly cheap and I think its diverse. The last regional only had two of the same decks in top 8. But you will be seeing a lot of dusknoir and a lot of big basics/ex mons that can set up fairly fast. Still, I'm having a lot of fun playing all the different decks that show up. I wasn't playing during the time shaymin EX was around but I heard it was like $100 a card. There's nothing like that currently. at most I think the most expensive meta card is prime catcher which is $30. But that will most likely be getting cheaper now that its getting reprinted into a starter deck next month.
>>
>>56630192
The HP of Pokemon especially two prizer Pokemon have gone way up. But with that the damage bonus on attacks are also higher on average. Game speed is also pretty quick, but I don't know how it compares to back then. Energy acceleration is dime a dozen now that setup plays is almost never seen.
It's still fun, and I'd say it's actually very diverse right now. It's so much cheaper now in the Live client since crafting is a thing instead of trading even though it's more fun to trade stuff (not).
>>
What's a good typhlosion deck?
>>
With 66k dust am I good for a while?
>>
>>56610624
People were already complaining about the changes to the invite system and now you have pros kvetching on Twitter about X-2 not being enough to make top 8.

Powers that be need to stop trying to pound a square peg into a round hole. Either make Asian tournament rules (the ones the game is likely developed with in mind) the standard worldwide, cut back on people being able to search their deck 15 times in a single turn and then have to spend 5 minutes shuffling, or make PTCGL the competitive standard like Wizards did with Arena when it was new and needed to be shilled.

Yeah.. I hate how there's no manual reroll option. It really would fix a lot of the issues of the game being over before it even started. Making the overall experience more competitive since people don't brick turn 1
>>
I see you can play this online with a client? Also do people play there seriously like are there online tournaments/ladders etc?
>>
>>56636015
The ladder/casual modes isn't as competitive as irl but you'll still get decent matched on high ranked ladder still
The most competitive online experience is joining online tournaments through the client (just direct matching your opponent since there's no tournament structure mode built in yet)

What pokemon on the bench are worth powering up with this?

What decks can his second attack completely not hit?
>>
>>56638334
No deck can really build that second attack cost well. You need crispin + crystal really. 1st attack is more managable, and it can chain itself after
2nd attack is useless vs all evolution decks if you get heads and their active is an evolutions. You essentially did nothing. Flipping tails is better as there's usually a bunch of support mons on the bench like mew/fez that can be killed.

playing PTCGL and using the Lugia deck right now and tweaked it a little by adding the Lumineon V, Squawkabilly ex, Cinccino and Minccino, Fezandipiti ex, and removing the Luxrays. Not using crafting points yet, but I do have like 10k. What else is good for the PTCGL ladder meta? Since I know it differs slightly from real life meta at times. Or is there a better deck I should focus on? I don't plan to get too high on ladder maybe grab a few of the prizes and what not
>>
Does anyone else think Squawkabilly ex is incredibly overrated?
>>
>>56643833
Stall decks are stupidly easy to climb with because most people can't play against them on live or quit because it sucks dick to play against. Takes forever for matches so something that wins by turn 3-5 is better for climbing quickly. Terapgaos, charizard, and raging bolt are all easy as fuck and have fast games.
Just craft a bunch of general useful shit you see everyone else playing. Legacy energy, prime catcher, Jacq, pidgeot ex, iron hands ex, rotom v, heavy ball, night stretcher, and pokestop come to mind as things you don't start with that show up in most decks.

Can you redeem the same box twice in ptcgl? Like, say I have two Iono boxes, can I redeem two codes to get 2 of the Full Art Ionos?

When do we get Unfeazant ex and will it be good? Or

When do we get the special energy ace spec with the following text:
>As long as this card is attached to a Pokémon, it provides [C] Energy. If this card is attached to a Pokémon at the end of your turn, discard it.
>If the opponent's active Pokémon is knocked out by damage from an attack while this card is attached to your active Pokémon, take1 more Prize card. This effect of your [card name] can't be applied more than once per game.

real pain how much the complacency around the franchise goes into every corner of it, shame that master duel didn't give enough of a kick to improve things, but doesn't seem there was enough loss to their bottom line to care

This fag helps out decks like raging bolt and roaring moon more than it ever does with evolution decks
Every set they keep making big basics better. Irida is the only lifeline of stage 2 waters currently otherwise they're as dead as the rest. They should add some universal support to make rare candy combos more convenient to compete vs basics

there are 2 main stores in my area, one has all 3 age categories (kids, teens, adults) and regularly gets 20+ people every week. As long as you stay away from the kids area and the parents, you can say whatever with the grown ups. The only rule in this place is no lewd mats, sleeves, etc.

Arezu can't grab rule boxes, it feels like shit in tinkaton that I swapped to jaq instead
The point is irida also grabs the rare candy, so it's the full evolution combo as your supporter for turn. That's a fair enough use of your once per turn supporter, there should always be a universal irida equivalent for that reason.

The fact that irida has kept rogue stage 2 water decks like garchomp, kingdra, tsareena, blastoise workable shows how effective a supporter like that is. Compare to other stage 2 decks without such a convenient supporter
The only stage 2 water ex pokemon not here are greninja (because the fighting one exists) and quaquaval (just a worse chienpao that also needs bax). Thanks to irida carrying everyone they're actually relevant. Imagine how many other niche stage 2 decks could appear if you could irida for them, incineroar wouldn't be a complete meme. We have gastrodon printed now too if people did want to counter said stage 2s.

My first time buying cards. Do booster boxes usually go crazy high after release? I really like the set of Surging Sparks so I wanted to preorder this Booster Box + ETB bundle. Would now be the best time or maybe a few weeks after release?
>>
>>56667096
usually they stay at the same price until a new expansion or two, or stock runs out after a few months. If the set is good because it has good playable cards, or good due to a popular rare card, it will go up at least 30-50% in the first year
I'm talking from experience buying and playing cards since 3-4 years go and seeing prices myself in lgs and online

Here is my list and a breakdown of some key cards
This deck likes to go firs but if you go second cleffa refills the hand up to 7.
Fan rotom easily sets up the bench with dunceparce and can be a good attacker but it's pretty much useless and wastes bench space most of the game.
Ciphermaniac before a dudunceparce or fezandipiti is basically a search 2 of anything.
Lacey to recover after a late game hand disruption.
Greatball is very useful and versatile, it can search a tinkaton ex or a dudunceparce if you need to draw more specially because you'll have 4 in the deck most of the time, in early game can help to setup plus can be searched easily and it thins the deck wich is great because this deck searchs by brute force.
Hyper aroma for 3 dudunceparce to draw up to 9 in a turn.
Lucky helmet is self explanatory and I've noticed people try to play around it for some reason and burn a gust card.
Also 2 psy energy for tinkatons second attack to bypass mimikyus and similar.

>bro why t

I just started playing last week and I have no base line. Also for the time being I bought cards for each deck even if they were duplicates so I don't have to switch shit around (for now). also bought some deck boxes.

>have you even pla

Yes, I've been playing the Snorlax deck and I'll get around to the draga deck but it looked cool. I bought two decks because I want to have a bit of flexibility.

I really like the Snorlax stall deck. I absolutely love shit like that. Stall/Control/Mill etc. When the cards will get here only god knows but once they do I'll go play. I got dice, energies and coins so I'm good on that front. What's funny is I got two tournament winning decks for the price of maybe half a MTG deck. It's one of the reasons I never picked up paper MTG but whatever. I also spent a bit more for full art of some ofm the trainers like Iono (1) and Erika.

There's a pokemon FB group for my area too so I could probably play every night of the week if I wanted too.

Also on limitless when it says "buy deck on TCGplayer" and I click it and a tab opens and immediately closes, is that on my end or their end?

>can't do shit with it
>sparkling crystal doesn't do shit since Draga isn't a tera
>turns out IT IS a tera

In my defense I've only been playing a week.

I understand why people are bitching about dusknoir now

>Be dragapult going 1st
>Turn 2
>Dusclops their dreepy
>Counter catcher up another dreepy
>Dusknoir their 3rd dreepy
>Dragapult kill the other 2 with phantom dive
>They have nothing but a tatsuguri and rotom on board now
>They literally didn't even have a chance to play the game despite starting 3 dreepy on board turn 1
Even gastrodon wouldn't have done anything there, this was turn 2 before they could even evolve anything. I see why it's a bit ridiculous

for you to pull that kind of turn you need a monstrous hand, and they need to brick pretty hard

Been trying to make okidogi work but it hasn't been going well. I might give your list a try.
Tbh though in surprised you only have one pecha ex and that this strategy isint too thin with the brute bonnets needing the capsules
>>
>>56695092
They didn't brick at all, they started tatsu got arven for poffin. Pretty ideal start for a dragapult
but yeah my hand was pretty great, they didn't iono my rotom draws away. still for it to be possible to donk 3 dreepy like that before they can even retaliate is really degenerate. i could've even went for rotom with counter catch for 4 prize turn but that would leave a dreepy up giving them a chance
>>
How does dragapult do in paper? I bought it as one of my first decks and seeing how it plays in Live I thinking I messed up.

>>
>>56695622
Hydreigon should opt more for binding mochi poison to 240 ohko basics while discarding, then have neo upper as a potential finisher. Not be the entire point of the deck. Vs bolt you otherwise just lose because their entire board is fucking immune to bench damage because lol teras
>>
Do you prefer ranked or normals?
>>
>>56695889
Normal if I'm doing some rando deck for daily quest or if it's clearly off meta shit. Anything meta I take to ranked though
>>
>>56695765
Just snipe the bolts on the bench
>>
>>56695189
I might get another Pecha ex at some point.
I don't really use him much though. Or rather, I don't get the chance to with how quickly Okidogi can set up.
>>
>>56695622
What do you do if your Pecha or Bidoof get prized? I know you can still have both prized with backups but there's less chance.
>>
>>56693448
Where the fuck are your balls? How do you even get your mons out? Cut useless supporters and put more items in there.

It can't even two-shot Bolts if they got Ancient Booster on them
>>
>>56696743
Based bolt wins again
>>
>>56696743
The bolt match up is pretty awful for hydreigon regardless, ogerpon can ohko it much like charizard since the grass weakness

nobody asked
>>
I asked
>>
When you show up to play in person at a local shop how do you find people to match against? Do you just ask random people like "next game"? Is there brackets or do you just sit and wait for people to come to you? Is there anything to ask prior to playing? Do you need to narrate everything you're doing or just like "I'm activating this ability, I am attacking" etc?
>>
>bot's first irl game
LMAOOO
>>
I cannot imagine being this helpless and needing to have your hand held this much. There's an influx of people in these threads lately that seem completely non-functional as human beings.
>>
they need to go back to their website ong
>>
>>56698580
There's a tournament organizer program that automatically pairs people ever round. If you lose in round 1, you get paired against someone who also lost in round 1. If you win round, you get paired with another 1-1 record in round 3.
Yes, you should tell people what you're doing when you play your cards. You can't just sit there like a mute autist while playing with another person.
Go in, pay, and give them your name. If you don't already have a player ID, they'll make you one. The TO will handle everything else. Just play your matches.
>>
not sure why you fags are bullying him this much, thats an honest question. if you've never been to an irl event you wouldn't know how it plays out. nothing wrong with asking about etiquette to not embarrass yourself
