>>56671970I'm starting to think that the breakneck release schedule GF has is the real cause of Pokemon's 'downfall'. the fact that they hold themselves to release an entire new generation every 3 years since BW is just insane, it's virtually impossible to build a complete and ambitious game from the ground up in that time, each time with a new setting, cast of 100+ characters & monsters, new lore etc. you can tell that sometimes there is real passion behind some of the ideas but they never give themselves the time to fully realize them before they have to throw it all out and start over from scratch to meet the next deadline. this franchise would benefit hugely from having a release window of 5-6 years or even more between major release, like most other major Nintendo franchises have. GF still might be deeply flawed devs but I genuinely would like to see what they could accomplish if they were just given more time to focus on a single game.

I'll concede to you that Flamigo is based on a balloon as well, but let's be honest, for the vast majority of people I'm sure that's the secondary association after it being a flamingo. and the balloon concept doesn't really interact with any other aspect of the Pokemon. it's not reflected in the typing, or the moves as far as I know, doesn't have any unique behaviours or gimmicks relating to the fact that it's a balloon. The design notes do confirm that they did in fact count Megas as new Pokemon, btw. Which makes sense considering Megas take virtually the same amount of work to implement as brand new Pokemon.They planned 70 new species and 30 Megas for 100 new Pokemon total.
