The anime has its own continuity, just look at BW's Bianca existing in the same time as BW2's Cheren.

The anime's Annabel never fell into a vortex, although I admit that it would have been interesting as a movie, it's a shame that XY killed the anime movies, and worse Koko killed the animated pokemon movies in general, we only have Detective Pikachu 2 left.
