They don't convey a sense of depth and their homogenized coloring scheme doesn't make it immediately clear what's walkable or interactable in the same way any other screenshot in the game does. So the one you're with now may have gotten the name Crow from you, but the one you fought originally may very well have an entirely different backstory for similar reasons as how that future changed. Crow also does say he speaks to other instances of himself to compare their experiences with his own later.
