Autists have social development issues. Pokémon is extremely child friendly as a franchise. So in an addition to autism, you get people that see Pokémon as a safe space franchise for their escapism.

I think it might be because a lot of people played the games when they were growing up. Although I suppose that's not really an autism specific thing. I feel like the designs of the Pokémon might also play a part in it. There's designs of all types, ranging from "cool guys" to "funny little characters", so at least one of them is bound to appeal to somebody.

Would the pretty girls also be a thing that attracts people? I'd say so.
>>
>>56750973
I think overall, no. You have millions of kids who get into it without any social issues, and this has been an ongoing thing for almost thirty years.

However, you do get a higher proportion of autistic people in the adult and hardcore parts of the fanbase. Autists tend to hyperfixate on things and Pokémon has systems of order as well as brightly coloured animals that attract autist attention. The brightly coloured animals also have a lot of soft toys, which autists use as substitute pets for 'comfort' And the whole escapism thing.

Generally, being geeky is a trap for people with mental health disorders. If you are unable to fit into mainstream society as a kid, you find comfort in alternative things. This has been hardcore fandom of games, anime, comics, tabletop games, etc.

Because it happens during their formative years, many people continue to be fans into adulthood. Pokémon. Same reason you get a lot of fags and troons who are into anime and Pokémon. They were socially shunned as kids and ended up taking Pokemon more seriously than others around them to escape bullying or feeling different.

Franchise about making friendship with monsters that can be powerful, silly, ferocious or cute.
Socially awkward people like me or autists doesnt enjoy being with other people so they feel lonely and unwanted.
You dont feel awkward with cool monsters in an ideal world.
Literally exists any media of the series (games, movies, animes, books) only counting official things there, then theres the unnoficial, thats a whole other world.
I believe that the least you enjoy being with people, the more you like to be with other things, like dinosaurs, dragons, furries or pokemon.
Also internet
>>
>>56748814
Exact same reason as MLP. Popular + kid friendly + people trying to get their childhood back
>>
>>56750794
a really common thing for aspies is feeling like everything and everyone come off as extremely hostile, so you end up gravitating towards things that look kind and inviting. i think it's both bullying and the general inability to read facial expressions.

i don't care much about "dei" schizoing or coomer shit, but more westernized styles give me a similar vibe to real faces where almost every expression feels like "disgust", so i kind of get where some people might be coming from with that.
>>
>>56751476
I don't like the aspie tag for me, but I must admit that yeah, debates come to me looking like arguments, shouting to me is angry, constantly scared of stuff, etc etc. probably might explain why visually I really enjoy cutesy stuff. Acerola, Lucky Star, etc etc. but then again, the "westernised" stuff outside of the hyper-realistic stuff seems kinda the same as the japanese-y stuff to me. stuff like Palia feels the same as Animal Crossing, and the former definitely has that american vibes for it visually.

Anon... You do know we're in /vp/, right? There's not a single soul here that isn't somewhat autistic or has extreme adhd. Like, they made an entire board just for us Pokefags simply because of our autism.
>>
>>56751487
it probably depends heavily on what and how much one accustoms to. ac is fine for me because it reads like emoticon, and both anime/moe and emoticon rely on very exaggerated expressions that you can easily learn to associate with a specific feeling or mood. palia is like ??? ün ün ün to me but it's not the worst example, and i assume someone who grew up with disney movies would be more comfortable with it. a japanese example would probably be splatoon.

A good part of it was to do with several generals (some of the first on 4chan) dominating /v/ and people complaining about it.

I'd know, I was one of the major contributors towards that in spamming Pokégirl threads between 06-08. And I've still got a bunch of the old Pokémon namefags from that era, on my Steam friend's list, even though I never use Steam.

On the topic of furries & its correlation to autism: I keep pondering/wondering/theorizing as to why is it that?

Is it just a systematic grooming front laid out by sexual predators - that is targeting autists as prey (children and/or autistic adults [as a "child-like" substitute to actual children] being really into cutesy animal properties/franchises - and are oftentimes known to being more gullible/naive in many ways compared to NTs - especially giving into being groomed due to that & their innate poor grasp of reading cues of creeps/being taken advantage of)

-or-

Is it just autists who develop odd formative sexual imprints (objects, scenes, sensations or parasocial attachments to fictional characters; especially fantasy/anime/cartoon/anthro related)? I suppose the fact that many of such kinks being derived from weirdly specific things (sinking in quicksand or the "willy wonka blueberry inflation" scenes) kind of supports the latter theory a bit.

My angle is that anything that revolves power dynamics/SM is where it gets more explicitly red-flaggy; but everything else otherwise plausibly seems like abhorrent but innocent sperginess in origin.
>>
>>56748856
Honestly that's a nice Bulbasaur statue. Not too gaudy and fits right on in.
>>
>>56754242
you're also forgetting the main aspect; not all furries and furry-adjacent things are inherently sexualised. it is more likely the first one, but not in the way you speak.
it is more often not a mix of the social outcasting, alongside a love of animals and cutesy things, that could lead to someone becoming a furry.

spergs gravitate to fictional characters because they can't stand the imperfections and complexity of real people. it's not something specific to furries, children's cartoons and anime attract plenty of spergs too.
basically anything that doesn't have real physical people in it is an autism magnet.

>On the topic of furries & its correlation to autism: I keep pondering/wondering/theorizing as to why is it that?
From what a friend of mine and I have experienced a few times, there seems to be quite a lot of "furries" who are only furries in so much as they've got stereotypical autistic face-blindness problems, and I'd surmise even some shape blindness too, of which I mean that that they gravitate to silly colorful furry characters with big expressive eyes and wildly different body types and such because they need a lot of exaggeration in order to actually tell entities apart in general (see also: Sonic).
>>
>>56754242
mix of both, probably

Given that furry culture indulges hard in the aforementioned brightly-colored animals with very obvious expressions, I think there’s a solid chunk of autistic furries who are just furries because they feel “safer” around neon-colored cartoon animals than around other humans.

Then there’s more the chris-chan type that’s gone so hard into the fantasy that they can’t picture anything outside of it, hence the weird fetishes and the sexual imprinting.

There’s also combinations of both (which you could argue Chris also is), especially common in Sonic/Pokemon because they’re unified by the same franchise of neon-colored animals with relatively lenient gameplay, and these tend to get the most attention because they’re the most eccentric.

That plays into the grooming angle, where these eccentric sexual extremists get a lot of airplay because the “normal” autists who just like the animal aspect aren’t nearly as loud and the really degenerate ones tend to drive away more normal autists.

Those eccentric standouts then go on to groom others (even unintentionally, just by getting their fetish shit exposed to such a wide demographic), which perpetuates the cycle and further amplifies the eccentrics, which leads to a big tumble-down domino effect that has leaked into modern day where basically every other autist (ESPECIALLY online) is now some form of furry or fan of furry-adjacent material.
