I really hope future games focus on smaller areas for regions again, the last couple have just been so flat & boring. Do people really still get excited to hear what country is becoming a region next? They're all the same pinwheel design slop where only the capital city is adequately represented.
>>56777610Alola was the last good region. It was also better than Kalos.
>>56777610Right is literally just america
>>56777658It's supposed to be Britain.
Sinnoh sucks albeit
>>56777658it doesn't resemble America at all.
>>56777753It doesn't thoughever
>>56777650alola is goyslop
>>56777610>cold in north>conveniently omitting the tropical biome and desert equally north Disingenuous image.
>>56777650Alola was fine but it owes that mostly to it's archipelago structure, it still has the whole "every biome crammed into 1 region" schtick but the islands let it flow better. Not being able to fly across the islands like ORAS was a goddamn disappointment though.
>>56777802> it still has the whole "every biome crammed into 1 region"This is literally Hawaii’s real life layout. The ice mountain is where the rl snowy mountain is, the desert is where the rl arid badlands are etc.
>>56777610Sinnoh is the shittiest, most boring region to play through so you’re not really helping your case.>NO YOU SEE WALKING THROUGH 15 ROUTES THAT ALL LOOK THE FUCKING SAME WITH THE SAME POOL OF 5 POKEMON IS GOOD ACTUALLY BECAUSE IT LETS ME PRETEND THE GAME IS WELL DESIGNED
>>56777800Islands tend to have more stable climates because water has a higher heat capacity though, plus you have to climb Mount Coronet to reach Snowpoint, so it's likely at a higher elevation.
>>56777802That means it's a great design.
>>56777790you need brain damage to think Sinnoh is fun to walk around in
>>56777835was meant for >>56777810But I think it would have been best if it took ORAS flying option. It's the best way to use fly.
>>56777825>islandIt’s a different landmass and you plow through a sea of ice floes surrounding it. The water is frigid. >climb mt coronetCelestic Town and Eterna City are the mountain towns; you descend to Coronet’s lower floors to reach the snow routes. There’s no rhyme or reason to the climate in Sinnoh.
>>56777610I've been saying this since gen 5Took a while but people are finally catching up on thisAt least unova had good cities. You can',t say the same about nu-pokemon save for the capital
>>56777858>You can't say the same about nu-pokemon save for the capitalIt's embarrassing that most players will remember random old towns like Floaroma that you're in for 30 seconds and can't name more than 1 or 2 cities in the new ones.
>>56777858I never played SV. Is it true that you don't even visit buildings in that game and instead it's some screen?
>>56777869Yeah you cant.Literal ghost towns. And consoooomers defend it because Pokemon was "never about the cities. Nobody cares"These guys should play a solo-mode showdown with a "catching pokemon" minigame at this point
>>56777838u r 2 brown to walk around sinnoh
>>56777888>Yeah you cant.>Literal ghost towns.Explain this to me. How do pokecenters (and the marts inside them) work? All the buildings in the games are just buildings you can't enter like filler buildings in towns in the previous games?
>>56777610>old regions >felt lived in, more grounded climate and geographical occurrences>new regions>uhh idk it's an amusement park
>>56777854NTA but Northern Sinnoh is cold because it's based on Hokkaïdo's northern wind. It's cold as fuck up thereAs for the battle zone it's fantasy indeed. They made it tropical by imagining a volcano with Heartran inside. It's not true to reality but it makes sense just like Hoenn'desert and ice caves made sense even though they were invented. What makes "less sense" is having a Marsh next to a desert like in Kalos. It's mario-tier fantasy
>>56777919Healing, Shopping, & Crafting TMs is all condensed into one gas-station like stand, it's all outdoors. There are no normal homes you can enter to talk to NPCs like the other games, the only things you can enter are stores to buy food or clothes, and as you walk in the screen fades to a menu where you can select what you want to purchase, when you close the menu it fades back to your trainer leaving the building.
>>56777919You can enter the school, the gyms, the league the pkmn center and some other points of interest...But you cannot enter regular houses or shop anymore.Shops are simply "menus". I'm not making this upYou talk to a vendor and you get a menu
>NOOOOOOOOO MY COMPLETELY UNREALISTIC FANTASY SETTING HAS TO BE LIKE THE BORING REAL LIFE!!!
>>56777919> How do pokecenters (and the marts inside them) work? They're lemonade stands now
>>56777940What about the player's house where the mom lives? What about the Professor's Laboratory?>and as you walk in the screen fades to a menu where you can select what you want to purchase, when you close the menu it fades back to your trainer leaving the building.I think that's what I've read on a youtube comment. It sounds like something from an old videogame. It seems that gamefreak hates the rpg in their games.
>>56777610Sinnoh was a fucking garbage region so your whole argument is discarded
>>56777957if the reason they ignore basic climate design is because they want to make cool fantasy lands, then why are the new regions all so fucking boring anyway?
>>56777869Yeah SV unironically lost a lot of content compared to prior games just from not having actual towns. There's not much in the way of little side quests or squirreled away little characters and small changes/items moving around as you do stuff anymore. The previous games didn't have a TON of those, mind, but you know, little shit like "Gosh I wish I was brave enough to talk to X" and then you get them a piece of mail, or go talk to that person and shit would happen in response? None of that in S/V.
>>56777964I hate how in the newer games pokecenters had something like ads. They looked like Mcdonald's stores in the newer games.
Sinnohfetuses aside, I do dislike the "theme park" feel of the newer regions
>>56777957Poor quality bait but I will say thisThe best fantasies are those that feel real. That's why Middle earth is superior to Narnia. For example. Tolkien himself told CS Lewis he simply threw shit with no rhyme or reason. Pokemon is not Mario
>>56777935>What makes "less sense" is having a Marsh next to a desert like in Kalos. It's mario-tier fantasyNah, it still makes more sense than Sinnoh’s climate. The “desert” in Kalos is a badlands, as the game describes it. If you want an irl example of a city that borders a badlands and a wetlands simultaneously in the way Lumiose does, Toronto exists. The two can and do appear concurrently in reality, unlike a tropical area with palm trees contiguous to a frozen-over northern sea.
How would a region based off of western Washington be?
>>56778023You are correct. The only "problem" is that we are talking about art. About a fictionnal "region" that is supposed to act as a symbol for something realFor example, Pallet town doesnt *really* have 2 houses. It has two houses so your brain understands its a super small village and your subconscious fills in the blanks. So while you can have a badlands and a marsh next to a big city IRL, when you make those a significant part of your region it throws the thematic balance out of whack. The toronto marsh IRL is tiny compared to canada. The marsh in Kalos takes up a big part of the map. The result is that Kalos feels like it has no climate. It's random.Sinnoh has a thematic identity: it's coldThe battle zone is "visible" on the map but it's treated as another (small) region altogether. The NPCs even reference it "oh you are from sinnoh?"So even if it's not "realistic" it doesnt thematically clashes with Sinnoh and they have an in-universe explanation to why it has a tropical climate despite the cold ocean = The big ass volcano with a legendary inside
>>56777992>>56777974sinnoh isnt the point of the image, you can substitute it with Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, or even Unova/Kalos and the main point is still the same.
>>56778129kill yourself David
>>56778170This(Kalos and Unova are theme parks though)Hoenn is masterfully crafted. Even the obligatory snow area was done well in a way that makes it memorable while keeping the tropical theme
>>56777979>they ignore basic climate designYeah that's why you can make a sandstorm and a rainstorm next to each other at will
I don't really mind the Unova theme park, since it was the first one, and you have to get really creative if you're adapting a place that irl is by far the smallest of the regions. It's kinda funny that there's mountains, deserts, and volcanos in just NYC, but the joke doesn't land as well when it's repeated 4 times afterwards.
>>56778269Volcanoes? Was this a B2W2 thing? I never played it.
>>56778219>Kalos and Unova are theme parks thoughThey are but they definitely feel like theres more of a semblance of cohesion than the switch regions. IMO Kalos save for the badlands is only weird bc they affixed “seasons” to different areas, which makes it feel less organic, but its still a mostly forrested grassy region.
>>56777610Right is just Unova
>>56777658Its not at all.>Warm at the topYeah not how North America works whatsoever
>>56778375Yeah. Revelation Mountain. Can find Heatran there postgame. Active and lava filled in White 2. Dormant and water filled in Black 2.
>>56777650>walk two steps>CUTSCENE>walk two steps>TUTORIAL>walk two steps>NEBBY GET IN THE BAG
>>56778674I'm playing it now for the first time and it's really not like that at all.Gen 7 games have other kinda big shortcomings, but getting to see the occasional funny, brief anime scene play out is not one of them.
