While the game does use some of the worse tropes (lava dunk) that've lingered since Reborn, the overall plot of Desolation is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest.Desolation is something more akin to a mystery game and it actively leaves breadcrumbs for the player to figure out the twist ahead of time before the curtain is pulled up. A stark contrast from Rejuv and Reborn's tendencies to have stupid shit happen just to "subvert expectations". While Desolation does have some tropes I don't like and some characters I don't like, it has plenty of characters I actually do like as well as encouraging active participation in its narrative in a way that Reborn and Rejuv don't really do.Be warned though, Desolation has a few really shitass maps. The first major city you reach is among the worst city layouts I've seen in any fangame and the entire middle section of the game takes place in a different giant (thankfully better designed) city, but I'd understand being put off if it comes a little too close to Grand Dream City bullshit from Rejuv, even if it's handled significantly better.

That's a lot of jumping around, and I'm enjoying it a lot. The very first follower you ever had here was Fern, ffs. Except it's only the Glaceon who's jumping, not the Espeon. And there's also quite a bit of difference between petting and not petting, i.e. +2/-3 for Glaceon vs +1/-1 for Espeon.
I understand if the mainline games put shit like this towards the end, but that's because they have 8 gyms and peak at what, 40-60. Right when you get these moves through levelup. Now I don't mind so much when you get coverage from shit like Nature Power or some field-boosted moves, but there are still a lot of times when I could've really used moves that weren't available yet. It's even worse since the mod already gives you shit like Close Combat and Hurricane several gyms earlier.
