Which early game bird is your favorite?
>>
Pidgeot > Swellow > Talonflame > Staraptor > Noctowl > Corviknight > Kilowattrel > Unfezant > Toucannon
>>

fucking finally a post-leak bird thread
gonna see what I can compile here but know we at least kinda ate good.
wingspanfags are eternally btfo
>>
>>56849403
I'm a fan of Fearow.
>>
>>56849403
Full line, Pidgey. Pidgeot is always my bird of choice in Kanto even though Fearow and Dodrio are objectively better options. Just the first stage, Pidove. I never evolve one if I catch it in any playthrough. Pidove is one of my favorite Pokémon of all time, definitely my ideal shouldermon. Staraptor, Swellow, and Talonflame are also very cool birds.

>>56849403
fearow
>>
>>56849403
i hate the repeated archetypes in every generation
noctowl is the best because it's the only one after pidgey with a reason to exist, being its nighttime counterpart
>>
>>56849403
While I hate gen 7, I gotta say that Toucannon is my nigga.
Him and Brave Bird are the best early birds, unless you're playing a Sinnoh game.

These scrapped birds from the leaks are really cool. They're a little more complicated than the average birdmon, but I think they could've been great designs with some refinement.
Also, QRD on the wingspan thing? I didn't see anything else feathery from the leaks, but if that means what I think it means... I'm thinkin' based.

spreadsheet made by the developers in the leak that literally lists all the official pokemon sizes (up to gen 7) and what they actually mean.
There's a couple birds measured by LENGTH, and many that include their crest in the measurement (lol), but not a single one is measured by wingspan for its official size.

I went through and compiled all the pokebirds in it, here's a machine translated version (this took so long) https://pastebin.com/Y9wQ9RDc
and here's the whole shebang, which is a bit more broken but it has it all https://pastebin.com/dqrti2cS

Noctowl is my fav. So happy i got shiny one in SV
>>
>>56849403
My favorite early bird is Swellow because it's a pseudo-shitmon which makes it usable unlike what came before it but balanced unlike what came after it. And because of Guts + Facade it never really got powercrept either anyway, using it beyond debut gen.

Swellow is like an improvement upon Pidgeot after Noctowl shat on the plot and before Staraptor trashed it.

It's not corviknight's fault that crows look edgy... He's not any edgier than a real crow...
>>
>>56849403
Staraptor, she's always been my fav
>>
>>56861254
it fills a different role from pidgey, as opposed to the others which fill the same role but need to be something different every time for some reason
i guess pidove would also get a pass since BW only had new pokemon but i am somewhat sour on how many unovamons are blatant stand-ins for kantomons. i love the roster overall, but that was the time to really shake things up.
>>
i think the starly line's pretty cool.

Noctowl. I was so proud of my shiny Noctowl in G/S.
>>
>>56864505
would be even more based if his staraptor had an actually good set
facade + aerial ace on a mon that learns close combat via evolution is a fucking hate crime
>>
>>56849403
probably Talonflame, good ol' brave birb. runner up to Pidgeot.

I want to like Unfezant, I think it's an underrated design. but it's just so underwhelming to use. really weird that it came between Staraptor and Talonflame, who are both very strong. really wonder what happened for Unfezant to get the short end of the stick. all it really needs is a better moveset.
>>
>>56864514
owls aren't birds
>>
>>56864534
It seems like that after gen 4 we've been alternating between getting good regional birds and underwhelming/bad ones
(Staraptor, Talonflame, and Corviknight for even gens, Unfezant and Toucannon for odd gens)
>>
>>56852922
But can you catch one on a game's first route?
>>
Noctowl > Swellow > Corviknight > Unfezant > Toucannon > Pidgeot > Talonflame > Staraptor > Kilowattrel
>>
>>56864546
you get one in the first route you enter in RSE/ORAS
so yes
>>
Talonflame > Corviknight > Staraptor >>>>> Noctowl > Pidgeot >>> Swellow > Kilowattrel > Unfezant >Toucanon
>>
>>56849403
I've always been a fan of Pidgeot instead of Fearow. Then, XY came out and Talonflame took the place of best bird. Now, I'm a CorviCHAD, even though I despise Galar.
Corviknight > Talonflame > Pidgeot (nostalgia boosted) > Staraptor > Pidgeot (unboosted) > Kilowattrel > Toucannon > Swellow > Noctowl > Fearow >>>>>>>>>>>>> Unfeazant
>>
>>56863497
it's a metallic, armored crow that's 8 feet tall and has red eyes
>>
>>56866870
Corviknight is really the one thing that Galar did right huh
The only thing that bothers me about it is that the pre evos are pure Flying. Why??

A sad way to think really.
>>
>>56867737
I liked how these tiny little orbs kept running at me to fight me in SV
>>
>>56849403
Most of them are pretty fucking good, the only ones I'd call middling are Toucannon and Unfezant and the only bad one is Noctowl.
>>
>>56868056
Unlike you, I know time and attention are precious and limited. Among similar options, not only is there a certain standard of quality, but even still there may not be anything worthwhile but the best.
>>
>>56864546
you can't catch Fletchling on Route 1 in Kalos
>>
>>56864546
The game treats Route 101 as the met location for the Hoenn starters in gen 3, yes.
The only Pokémon you can get from Littleroot Town are the Johto starters as a reward for completing the regional dex, which is exclusive to Emerald specifically because that reward doesn't exist in Ruby or Sapphire and in ORAS you get the Oval Charm instead
>>

Cool ideas for a fire type. Fire is usually an uninspired type of pokemon imo, thats why we dont get as many of them

it's hard to come up with good fire type ideas that aren't just elemental animals, because it's a force of nature and not really a property of life. contrast it to the other "core types, water and grass, both of which naturally encompass entire, massive ecosystems and thousands of species of fauna and flora, respectively.
in another timeline fire probably could have been rolled into ground as a sort of tectonic type. but the truth is fire is just too iconic of an element to leave out.

agreed, this is easily my favourite bird line and I was so disappointed it was late-game only. Braviary is so much fucking cooler than Unfezant.
