Day 10.

I continue with my nuzlocke. Today Echo evolved into a Crobat and I caught two new pokemon, a Seviper I named Venomix and a Muk I named Sludgeira though they all ended up in the reserves. I did try to catch a Combee and a Gligar but I failed. Overall I didn't lose any pokemon today and now I'm in Opelucid City.

Any advice for the battle with Drayden?

Whew, just finished the best part of Hoenn. Did cheese Norman with Protect, but if a Neutral 70bp physical move does nearly 50% to a fucking Torkoal, then I feel no shame at all. Thinking about cheesing the Elite 4 if Hawlucha (Swellow) makes it that far by triggering effect spore on a wild Shroomish to pre-poison and Guts Facade all over them. Aside from gen 2, this seems like the least OP Gyarados is, so I think it's more fun to get it to the champ this round.

Blind Hardcore Shield update--just entered Route 5. Here's what I think of the mechanics so far:
>Dynamax Raid
Tried once at the beginning area. Didn't want to catch it since you can easily guess the silhouetted mon. The rewards seem a bit OP considering we already get tons of money. Might reconsider for getting watts/TMs in the future.
>Camping
Tried twice. The extra exp doesn't help for the overleveling threat and whatever stat advantage it gives seem unnatural for a nuzlocke. Perhaps in long dungeons, if this game even has it.
>Pokejobs
Tried once. Detrimental for nuzlockes since the mons are locked for hours and there wasn't even a notice for held items being inaccessible. Won't try again.

Loving the camerawork and overall vibe of the wild area.

I had a bit of difficulty today with my Inclement Emerald Nuzlocke
The emulator I was using crashed when I woke up and tried using it, and the long and short of it is that the save was corrupted was basically deleted
However... I had the foresight to think of making one backup save
Before the save crashed, I had just gotten past Aqua Hideout, made it to Mossdeep City, got the rest of my encounters (pic being such)
My backup save was right when Maxie's fight started, so I decided to retrace all my steps
The same strategies and fights in Aqua Hideout, the same encounters (which were assured anyway by way of removing dupes from encounter tables)
Out of fairness, since I got Emolga killed last time due to carelessness, I had to let it die again when I got to Matt's fight
All this simply to get back to where I was
After some training, I'll have to prepare for Mossdeep Gym
Has anyone ever had this happen, and what did you do? I'd just like to get an idea, though I'll be sure to make more backup save files from now on

The team is coming together nicely. I encountered a fucking Beldum at Mount Hokulani and foolishly let it kill itself. I can also see why Mudsdale is so popular, this thing is a tank. Completely walled the Sophocles trial.
>>
>>56889152
Whole thing. If they didn't beat the champion, then why would they be included. Just don't try and scum the system by purposefully letting things die so that you can use them again. Purposefully letting things live so that they don't screw up your encounters in later runs is fine though.

I only count the survivors of the final battle(s). You do you, but for me (I usually take some time to enjoy the post-game free of the threat of death) it has felt weird keeping around a pokemon that has died, even if it's just final battle.
>>
>>56889152
Usually only the ones that survive but i might make an exception if it's like a mon that has been with me from the very first routes or a mon that hard carried the team that i don't want to use again

In Ultra Moon playthrough. It is really easy compared to black 2 (at the start). Trackers usually split route 1 into 3 parts and I'm following that. This game is paced differently than older titles than older titles, it has an easy start. In black 2 you can only have 4 pokemon before the first gym. In this game you can easily build a whole team with some change before you fight the big kahuna. But I remember some crazy fights that have killed my runs before so I'll keep an eye out.

At least the Tyrunt has strong IVs all around and i guess i can use the Inkay as a scuffed special attacker if i need one. Next i need to wait until morning for Budew to evolve so i can take a shot at the second gym.

>>
>>56894911

>>
Bump.
>>
>>56893090
What was your strategy to beat the first totem?
I've wiped on it before.
>>
>>56897459
You need someone with high defense able to debuff him, specifically his attack. I also killed all the minions as fast as possible. If you can get lucky enough in your run for Furfrou, then that pokemon works great.

I spammed Furfrou's Baby-Doll Eyes to lower its attack and did a few sand attacks to lower its accuracy. Fru Fru (my Furfrou) also had a silk scarf on at the time. She could one-hit the minions summoned with a Headbutt. Her fur coat ability also halves physical damage.

Another tip is to raise your pokemon's affection early on. The mini game is kind of annoying, but if you spam it and give your Pokemon a bunch of affection hearts they will have many advantages. I was able to level my Pokemon really fast that way with the exp bonus. I do some wild encounter grinding but not nearly as much as my runs in the DS and Gameboy titles, and you can overlevel your pokemon easily on trainer battles.

Furfrou is only a 25% chance to grab in the city though (odds can be better if you have a no dupes clause and grab a Grimer or Magnetite before at the Trainer School) and a 10% chance on Route 2. So maybe it would be a good idea to discuss other strategies. I'll try and remember what I did in past attempts where I didn't have Furfrou.

I think anything with Baby-Doll Eyes and high enough defense should be used to debuff the totem. Try to debuff the totem's phys attack like crazy.

I know Ekans can be caught from ambush on Route 2. I don't know if the first ambush is guaranteed to be Ekans as I know some first encounters in this game are scripted (like the first wild Pokemon you can catch on Route 1), but the general percentage for Ekans is very high either way. Ekans has the intimidate ability, so he will reduce the attack for free at the start of battle. Then you could switch out (I don't know how well Ekans can tank the totem.) If it can tank a hit maybe you can get lucky and poison it.

Make sure you have two tanks so you can switch and undo debuffs.
>>
>>56897591
>Cheat with affection
Eh, pass.
>>
>>56897591
>>56898188
Yeah, affection is too cheesy for nuzlockes when you get to 4+ hearts. If used sparingly, it doesn't really get in the way. In my Moon and Ultra Sun runs, I only used Pokemon Refresh to clean up/cure a status ailment after fights and then a head pat and plain bean as a reward for beating a totem/kahuna. My starter was only able to get to 3 hearts of affection by the time I got to the league.
Also, the photo club raises your pokemon's affection a little bit; about the same amount as petting/plain beans would.
>>
>>56897591
I just EV trained a Magnemite and got a lucky crit off turn 1.
>>
>>56898188
>>56898274
Ehh I don't think its too bad. But I'm not an experienced nuzlocke player. I remember hearing that US/UM are the hardest unmodded games to nuzlocke though and I wonder if that's true. Black 2 felt way more dangerous, and it takes much longer to grind.

I did try to nuzlocke ultra sun around a year ago and necrozma messed me up bad. I don't think it caused me to wipe but the effects were so bad I wiped soon after.

I haven't tried doing any serious SOS chaining. Once I get a ton of ethers I'll give it a shot. I have to wonder how busted a perfect IV Pokemon is. Then couple that with affection.

>>
>>56898600
I wasn't an experienced nuzlocker either, and I started off with all the usual """hardcore""" rules.
Gen 7 is decently hard, but Necrozma is a huge outlier in the entire series. There's a bunch of cheese you can do (And might have to even if you want safety) like using a Focus Sash to get a safe Toxic in before stalling through any means necessary.

I continue with my nuzlocke. My team hasn't changed one bit, I did try to catch a Mantyke and Solorock earlier but bot failed so it doesn't matter. I finally beat the eighth and final gym leader Marlon and it was an incredibly tough and long battle because while I was gonna win anyway, I was desperate not to lose a single pokemon and I didn't. Now it's time for the rest of the game.

Any advice for dealing with Team Plasma since that's what's gonna happen now?
>>
>>56887066
Just beat Wallace (though nearly lost Arctozolt to Ice Beam). Kinda feeling like I should replace one of my team members with a low level linoone, just so I never have to encounter one again. Gliscor (Hariyama) takes care of Syndey, will be handy against Glacia, as well as a good amount of Steven's team. Arctozolt (Shiftry) likely sweeps Phoebe. If I can get a pre burn (grinding against Slugmas) Hawlucha (Swellow) can probably do a decent amount to Drake, though probably also dies to him. Pecharunt (Pelipper) likely can't take Drake on its own due to low speed, but can handle Steven. Archaludon (Torkoal) maybe muscles through Steven? Not sure about that. Regieleki (Electrode) might help a bit against Glacia and Drake. Maybe does a little bit against Steven. Also wondering if 50 is an appropriate level to grind to.

As someone who has run Ultra Moon, Ultra Sun, Black 2 and White 2 more than once...
Even regular Sun and Moon are significantly scarier than BW2, and the Ultra games are easily the toughest.
Though that does assume level caps and no affection mechanics.
>>
>>56899446
You're gonna have to fight the cover legendary and then Ghetsis right after, that's what you'll need to prepare for.
>>
>>56899803
Level 50 is very below Steven's team, i'm not sure how well you would fare.
>>
>>56899446
Your team should be strong against Colress but don't let your guard down too much. Sturdy + explode Magnezone will still fuck you up.
Kyurem -> Ghetsis is probably the hardest fight in the game, but you have plenty of time to prepare.
>>
>>56894911
Boxed Fru Fru and Rata for Marrep and the eevee egg, then took on the water totem. It wasn't too bad but I used Mr. Ow and he did almost die (red health). Used a special defense boost and I was able to squeeze a win.

Fire totem is next so I'm going to train up a different team composition. Fang and Mr. Ow will be boxed since they are no good with fire and I don't want to lose them. If I can I'll replace Finny with a Gyarados.

I have this eevee egg. I'll make sure to hatch it in Paniola town (in exchange I won't be able to fish there). I always follow hatch location with eggs when it comes to nuzlocke rules since that's what appears on the pokemon description.

>>
>>56903995
I guess he's a femboy now after evolution forced gay conversion on him. I'll still accept him after coming out of the closet, but this takes some of the balance out of my team. Damn.

I am in that one tournament town. Still over levelled. The game is slowly closing the gap I guess.

I wonder if US/UM would be well-suited to a Shinylocke if one has the patience. It would balance the over-powered nature of Z moves and affection somewhat. For me the main appeal of these challenge runs is that it makes you more attached to your team. One way to force this would be to shrink the team size. Maybe a custom mod can be made so that your starter is always shiny and you are given some adrenaline orbs and ethers early on.

fire red is pretty good for inexperienced players
>>
>>56906222
Fire Red if you're starting out, Platinum if you want a challenge.
>>
>>56885979
Turns out Bianca's rematch is locked to only be played after Alder. So I guess not.
>>
>>56906222
How about Pokemon Emerald? Fire Red is also a good starting point as the other anons have said, but surely Emerald is good too
>>
>>56907911
Fire Red is better to start as it gives you reasonably good encounters at every part of the game. Emerald, like all the other Hoenn games, has pretty much pure shit encounters once you go east of Route 118. Maybe you get a ghost or a Spheal, but that's really it unless you haven't picked up your mandatory Pelipper and Tentacruel (which are admittedly good).
>>
>>56906222
Just do Gen 1 for the easiest run if you're worried.
>>
>>56908094
Emerald also has some of the tougher gym battles in Wattson and Tate/Liza. I don't know if Fire Red has anything on that level.
>>
Fire trial is next. I have my complaints on US/UM (treating me like even more of an idiot than older titles) but some of these tracks are pretty good

> they where both tough long fights but I won without losing a single pokemon.
Congrats!

>Also what do you think of my team?
Your team has good coverage. Since Camerupt gives you good ground coverage, maybe you could swap sandslash for something else.

>>56906222
If you choose a Hoenn game, note that whether you pick Mudkip or not has an overall effect on the difficulty. Mudkip and its evolutions give you many great matchups against the gyms.

>>56907911
>>56908094
The Hoenn games give me water fatigue. There are so many water Pokemon.
>>
>>56910519
Mudkip also benefits from Hoenn's lack of Grass types, it's major weakness.

Hey all, anon here.
I'm about to Nuzlocke Ultra Sun blind with Level Caps. Never played it and its been +5 years since I last played Moon and I've had bad relationships with the game so hopefully this fixes my experience with the game.
Or so I was going to post, until I forgot to post this and got my 3 mons one shoted by the first boss and I have to start again.
What the fuck. I'd heard it was hard, but not >Yungoos one shotting you hard

The Ultra games can be brutal, because I believe bosses actually have EV trained Pokemon

Yeah, 52 might be a little too high for a challenge, though next time I won't be able to use Pickup Rare Candies after Drake. Sydney was a little tricky as Gliscor's (Hariyama's) nature meant it only outsped a few things, but still a relatively easy sweep. Arctozolt (Shiftry) was set to sweep against Phoebe, but a turn 1 Curse mean that I sorta flailed against her team. Archaludon (Torkoal) nearly died to a crit from her Dusclop's Earthquake which is a little funny as that specific mon critting with Earthquake is how I lost my Valiant (Blaziken) last run which made me wipe to Glacia. Luckily it didn't have Thunderbolt as well, so Pecharunt (Pelipper) was able to destroy that monster and Arctozolt managed to come in on a Banette and win. Gliscor managed to sweep Glacia, but nearly got hit by a Sheer Cold. I sorta "cheated" a little by burning Hawlucha (Swellow) with wild Slugma before heading in. If you could pregame burn, Swellow would most likely be an Ubers mon thanks to Guts+Facade. Took out Shelgon but Flygon barely lived and used Sandstorm. Barely lived again after a Full Restore and after the Altaria, the chip damage was too much to keep Hawlucha in. Swapped to Pecharunt, which got burned from a Flamethrower, took 2 turns of burn chip, a Dragon Breath from the other Flygon, and survived a Dragon Claw from Salamence barely. If I forgot to pick up Nevermelt Ice before, there might be a chance that Ice Beam wouldn't ohko and Pecharunt would've died to Burn damage. Considering she nearly sweeped Steven's team (after a few Rare Candies that Arceus (Linoone) blessed us with) and only died to Hyper Beam, I think it might've mattered. Sad to see her go, as she was the mvp in the second half of the game. Archaludon picked up the final kill and my first run of Gen 3 is complete (and now Zigzagoon/Linoone won't take up half my encounters)

Day 14.

I continue my nuzlocke. First I caught a Bronzong I named Bellforge and then I caught a Roserade named Thornio. I tried to catch a Buizel but failed. I decided to put Bellforge in the reserves but Thornio on the main team as I need a grass type, Dusty has been taken of the main team and into the reserves for now. I also made it past all of victory road and I'm now at the pokemon league.

Any advice for for the elite four and champion?

Is using rare candies before gyms to reach the level cap cringe or can I do it to save training time?
>>
>>56913495
You do whatever you want to do. I wouldn't do it, because training is a part of the experience. You could fuck up, or you could get impatient and try to do the gym too early.
>>
>>56913495
It all depends on you
Are you pressed for time and/or just want to get training over with? Use 'em
Otherwise, find some other way to get those levels in
>>
>>56913495
Since I personally find it bad to use the champion's ace as a level cap, I often go in at the middle of the e4s ace. Then you can use candies after defeating them.

"Post-game" Cheren update! This fight can actually be a bit scary because he's packing Held Items unlike almost every other fight in the game.
>Vs Cheren
>Liepard
It uses Fake Out on Kole, hurting itself on the Rocky Helmet.
Next it uses Night Slash, and Kole sets up Stealth Rock.
A Night Slash Crit actually does some real damage, and a Bulldoze misclick lets Liepard survive one a sliver and use its Sitrus Berry.
It Shadow Claws Kole, who Rests.
Another Night Slash into the Rocky Helmet makes the Liepard KO itself.
>Samurott
I send Merida in Leftovers in on a Hydro Pump, which does a fair bit of damage, which Leftovers patch up a little.
I get a bit lucky as Samurott misses two Hydro Pumps in a row, letting Merida take out the sea lion with two X-Scissors.
>Simisear
I send The Nix in on Flamethrower.
The Nix Works himself Up, taking a Brick Break to the face.
He then KOs the Simisear with Expert Belt Surf.
>Gigalith
Surf oneshot.
>Haxorus
Ice Beam oneshot.
>Unfezant
Another Ice Beam oneshot, and Cheren is done. Only Cynthia and the second run of the Elite 4 left.
Fun little tidbit, I was planning to use Flame Charge on Edelgard the Darmanitan, but then I realized Sheer Force is gonna prevent that. I still want a speedy Darm, so I had Edelgard beat up on a metric ton of Purrloin while wearing the Macho Brace. One makes do.

Day 15.

I complete my nuzlocke. I beat all elite four members and the champion, unfortunately I did lose 5 of my pokemon to the champion Iris. In order, I lost Echo the Crobat, Beacon the Probopass, Hexa the Banette, Thornio the Roserade and Emberlyn the Camerupt. The only survivor of my main team was Frosty the Dewgong. Of course I still have other pokemon still alive in the reserves but non of them went up against the champion, Frosty was the only one who went up against the champion and didn't die so Frosty is my ace.

So what do I do now? Since the nuzlocke is over, can i play the post game with the team members that died again or would I have to just play with the Dewgong?

I was doing a randomized autismlocke a few months back, but my external HDD I was using died. I've decided to resume my run where I left off.

Faulker's Team:
>Phanpy
OHKO'd by Redd's Mega Drain.
>Paras
2HKO'd by Redd's Confusion.

Bugsy's Team:
>Alakazam
Outspeeds Lute, and we trade Earthquakes, leaving them both in the yellow. I switch to Rebecca, who KOs it with 2 Stomps.
>Skarmory
It sets up Swords Dance before getting OHKOd by Rebecca's Horn Drill.
>Tauros
Rebecca eats a few Dizzy Punches before finally landing Horn Drill.

A bit of a rough start, but I'm still optimistic. I can't really see Rebecca being of much use later in game. She isn't of much use now desu besides as a tank and vehicle for RNG OHKOs, so I'll have to build up a team soon. I can use Lute's Bubble as a means to whittle down wild Pokemon. I'm excited about the prospect of an Azumarill, since it's one of my favorite Pokemon and Ludy's been a beast so far. I'm still mad that I passed up giving it Psybeam because Chet and Redd already had Confusion/Psybeam respectivelly.
>>
>>56912714
Still haven't succumbed to Hoenn fatigue yet so decided to do another run. Thinking about keeping Magearna (Marshtomp), Sylveon (Poochyena), and Goodra (Whismur). I am consider keeping Glimmora (Dustox) on forever to banish Wurmples from future runs like I did Arceus (Linoone) last run, but that'd require getting two slots with Beautifly as well, and since Poochyena is one of my favorite mons, I think I'll need all the slots I can get for the Champ.

Anon here.
I was able to overcome this fairly uncomfortable issue by coming up with a strategy.
I decided to level up Mr. Mime to Level 22 and taught it Light Screen and Reflect (for the future, of course). Even after that, Wishiwashy was still doing a fairly high amount of damage so I left the trial and bought some X-Sp. Def (With the little money I had left) and on the Trial I decided to lead with Mr Mime's Light Screen, switch to Charjabug and used a RotoBoost and X-Sp. Def until I was comfortable inflicting damage. After that, I was able to escape this fight without any deaths.
Also decided to tweak my Level Cap rule. Instead of playing with mons whose level is lower than or equals to the next boss' highest mon, I'll play around the level of the NEXT boss' highest leveled boss. It was miserable having my Drifloon in the box because I was in the level cap.

>Narby the Vibrava takes out Emolga with Rock Slides
>Nina the Roserade comes in and takes out Magneton with leech Seed & Giga Drain
>Nidalee Mega evolves and throws rocks at Heliolisk until it stops moving
Wasn't even aware that Ampharos becomes part dragon with the mega evolution until one of the fairy trainers in the sixth gym hit it for super effective damage with Draining kiss. Luckily i didn't need her for the gym leader fight
>Nina sets up a layer of Toxic Spikes against Mawile while it uses Iron Defence. Nina then tanks a Crunch that gets a def drop while setting up Leech Seed
>Giga Drain Heals Nina to almost full but then Mawile gets off a crit Crunch that leaves her with 7 hp
>Gym leader then tries to heal but thanks to that 2 more Giga Drains + Leech Seed drain puts Nina back to full hp

It basically doubles the speed of the game (but not the music and sound effects, funnily enough) and makes the cutscenes so much more tolerable.

Whitney's Team:
>Totodile
I have Bessie setup Leech Seed as Totodile uses Spark. Bessie whittles down Totodile with False Swipe (to minimize recoil damage) as Totodile lays down Spark attacks and manages to land a Sweet Kiss. By the end of it, Bessie is in the red and paralyzed before finishing Totodile with Take Down.
>Pidgey
I switch to Kanqi, who eats 2 Thunderbolts before OHKOing Pidgey with Thunder.

Morty's Team:
>Muk
3HKO'd by Ludy's Dig, eating 3 Psywaves in the process.
>Suicune
I switch to Lute, who eats a Razor Leaf before 2HKOing Suicune with Thunderbolt.
>Smeargle
OHKO'd by Lute's Thunderbolt.
>Tangela
I switch to Bessie, who eats a Slam before OHKOing it with a crit Aurora Beam.

I think my new guys have some potential. Bessie in particular is a lifesaver thanks to Flase Swipe, since before I had to rely on inflicting confusion to whittle down weak Pokemon. I might even keep Rebecca around since a tank isn't necessarily a bad thing and I have more than enough firepower (thankfully, most legendaries are weak to electric). The mystery egg was a Venonat, so I couldn't use it, but PkHex is telling me the odd egg is a Lanturn, so could be useful to have in the tuck. Gonna go catch something in the Burned Tower and make my way to Olivine City.

Aiming for a Cute Charm Nuzlocke of Heart Gold today, making up my own ruleset for funsies. Opinions?

1. If a Pokémon faints, it dies. Box it forever.
1a. The sole exception is my Cute Charmer because it is not supposed to be used in battle. If it faints it's probably an accident, but it doesn't matter either way. Using it in battles violates the rules.

2. You have 5 chances per area to encounter a shiny. If you cannot find a shiny in the first 5 encounters, you lose your encounter for that route.
2a. Dupes clause.
2b. If an encounter cannot be shiny by my method (Male 50% lead), it cannot be used. Starters, legendaries, fossils, Snorlax, Tauros/Miltank/Jynx/Tyrogue/Machop/etc and anything genderless fall under this umbrella.

3. Nickname everything.

4. SET mode only.

I want to start out somewhat simple. I was considering sticking solely to items I find on the ground or forbidding healing at centers as well, but this is Johto so I doubt it'll be nearly as fun as I found it in Unova (especially without the doctors lol).

Before anyone asks about the 5 chances thing: my method seems to have reduced the shiny chance to about 1/5. I would've done 3, but while testing it took me longer to find a shiny so I probably would've ended up with a 6-mon team at Whitney using that.

I was considering doing a Gen 3 run where I swap Mudkip for Clamperl as a starter, but then I realized I had no cart where I'm currently anywhere near far enough in the game for this to be possible. Maybe I can do that for Emerald later if I do a Ruby or Sapphire run...

I decided to use the emulator again, but this time I'm making extra sure to like, save thrice (manual save, save state, manual save again, and no auto saves), and after each remaining Gym Leader I'll also back up the save file in case something goes wrong again
So far so good, at least
Now, some more progress:
I took care of the trainers in Mossdeep Gym; they were pretty small time since you're intended to fight them in Doubles, but you can just fight them individually
I also went and fought Lucy, one of the Frontier Brains-- she's an optional fight, alongside Spenser and Greta, and each reward you a Choice item
The fight itself was... also pretty small time, because her lead Shuckle is very passive, so Cloyster could Shell Smash and sweep with +6 Freeze Dry
Oddly enough, every time she switched Steelix in, she switched it right back out
It has a Choice Band, and my guess is that because it couldn't KO Cloyster behind a Sub, and that it was threatened with a KO in return, it backed out
I still don't quite understand how this all works, and I'm going to have to because I know some later bosses will have Choiced Pokemon
In any case, now I also have a Choice Band as a reward from the fight, something Swellow is gonna put to incredibly great use pretty soon
Tate and Liza, you're next

It's mandatory for the glitch to work. Without it, shiny rates are normal. Since I can only use shinies in battle, not using it would mean I'd have to full-odds hunt every single team member of my squad, which I do not have the time for (especially in a 1/8192 game).

>>56923048
I've decided to raise the odds because hunting always makes the encounter feel tedious. I'm just counting any duplicate encounter, shiny or not, as another free roll (assuming I did not find a shiny in the first 5). Makes it more fun that way.

Current team if anyone's interested. Mustard ended up pretty overpowered since I lost 3 route encounters in a row (one of them was technically a catch, but a Modest Spearow with 0 Atk IVs and little to no speed when I already have a Pidgey with a better nature may as well be a miss) but I think she's on-level with the rest now, finally.

Very funny to me that the most efficient way to maximize your shiny output with this glitch is to just start a harem.

Tate and Liza's battle, an Inverse Battle, went absolutely perfect
Each turn, two kills
Choice Band Guts boosted Facade destroys Claydol, Reuniclus, and is super effective against and crushes Lunatone
Typhlosion's Eruption wipes out their Mega Slowbro, a Ground Gem boosted Earth Power to take care of Exeggutor, and then one more Eruption to melt away Solrock
That was probably the easiest fight yet, even if it required me to go out of my way to fight an optional boss first
And in my last attempt at this, Swellow had long since died, at Lilycove rival
Now I know what it's capable of
We're in the endgame now, but we still have one last showdown with Team Magma and then Aqua coming up
But I can go get a few more encounters right now (underwater, Seafloor Cavern), and activate Sootopolis City's Fly point for later

Really wanted to use Noivern so retired Vivillon to the bench. Then realized that my team is kinda weak to Ice types. Currently training Pawniard and Kingdra as replacements to Flygon and Lapras.
Also been thinking about retiring this marathon once i'm done with Y and starting over from scratch with a harder ruleset like also giving level caps to rival fights and any other boss battles where it's feasible. Going through the whole Kalos region and managing to catch a grand total of 5 Kalos pokémon kinda made me realise that i should pay a lot more attention to what mons i want to try and champion in the earlier games
>>56926205
Poor Cynthia. Alder probably meets a similar fate with half his team being bugs and all
>>
>>56925643
Yeah, from the Araquanid to Olivia is like a 5 or 6 level difference, which is insane. Also this is way later in the game, but don't forget to get your Ultra Wilds encounter (up to you if you want to use legendaries, ultra beasts or only the normal/shiny mons in there). I feel like everyone forgets you can get normal pokemon in there and not just legendaries.

Back-up water-type if Simipour and Tirtouga died. Water mons are in fairly short supply for a good long while in BW1. The Sitrus Berry is a neat bonus.

>Vs Caitlin
>Musharna
Dong Bai sets up 6 Calm Minds over 9 turns as Musharna uses Hypnosis, Reflect, Dream Eater and Psychic to fairly small effect.
On turn 10, Dong Bai drops Musharna with a Shadow Ball.
>Metagross
Metagross hits Dong Bai with Bullet Punch and then Giga Impact, but falls to two Shadow Balls.
>Reuniclus
Metagross's damage output plus Musharna's chip means Dong Bai needs to Rest. Reuniclus misses a Thunder.
...and it misses another right after.
It finally hits the third one.
Dong Bai wakes up, and Shadow Ball takes out Reuniclus.
>Bronzong
Two Shadow Balls take it out, Payback doesn't do that much.
>Gothitelle
Dong Bai's evolved form ends up the most annoying opponent.
It Flatters Dong Bai, causing her to hit herself in confusion.
Gothitelle then uses Payback, but with bad Atk and going first, it does little damage. I have Dong Bai Rest, mistakenly thinking Rest removes confusion.
Gothitelle then hits Dong Bai with three consecutive Paybacks, but after the third, Dong Bai wakes up, and despite the confusion, she lands a Shadow Ball, getting the KO. This also gets Dong Bai to Level 75.
>Sigilyph
It Air Slashes Dong Bai, who hits herself again.
Another Air Slash, and then Shadow Ball finishes the match.
Dong Bai sweeps.

>Vs Shauntal
>Cofagrigus
It's that time again... Edelgard Belly Drums, activating her Sitrus Berry, and Cofagrigus hits her with a Shadow Ball.
Fire Punch wipes out the Mummy, but also removes Sheer Force for Mummy. Should probably have used Earthquake...
>Jellicent
>Golurk
Speaking of which, both of these fall to Earthquake.
>Drifblim
Fire Punch takes it out, but Aftermath puts Edelgard uncomfortably low in HP.
>Froslass
Fire Punch oneshot.
>Chandelure
Earthquake oneshot. Edelgard reaches Level 77.
Shauntal gets the Cynthia treatment.
>>
>>56927112
Edelgard replaces Belly Drum with Bulk Up (Maybe a bad idea for the Alder fight, but I feel Bulk Up is a safer choice in the Grimsley and Marshal fights).
>Vs Grimsley
>Sharpedo
It hits Merida with a Waterfall, then falls to X-Scissor, though Rough Skin hurts.
>Drapion
I send Mr. Punch in on Fire Fang.
Earthquake gets the oneshot.
>Liepard
Sawk gets smacked with Fake Out.
Next turn, Close Combat KOs.
>Krookodile
I send in The Nix on a powerful Earthquake. Really happy it wasn't a crit.
Surf gets the oneshot.
>Scrafty
I send Merida back in on Crunch.
Scrafty Head Smashes, doing a fair bit of damage to Merida(and itself), but Merida hits back with a lucky X-Scissor Crit, getting the KO.
>Bisharp
I send Mr. Punch in on a Night Slash, and Close Combat wins me the fight.

For the Marshal fight, I replace Shadow Ball on Dong Bai with Psychic. Edelgard swaps Earthquake for U-Turn.
>Vs Marshal
>Breloom
Edelgard oneshots it with Fire Punch, but gets hit with Effect Spore Sleep. Lum Berry cures it.
>Sawk
Edelgard U-Turns out(scoring a Crit), letting Dong Bai in on a missed Stone Edge.
The next one hits, but it falls to Psychic.
>Mienshao
It Fakes Dong Bai Out.
Then it goes for Acrobatics but falls to a single Psychic.
>Throh
Throh gets an Earthquake in, but Dong Bai lives and Rests.
Dong Bai lives three straight Earthquakes, using Charm on the turn she wakes up. She Rests again, taking three more Earthquakes(but now they do much less damage), before 2HKOing Throh with Psychic as it keeps Quaking.
>Toxicroak
It applies Toxic on Dong Bai before being blown up by Psychic. Dong Bai levels up to 76.
>Conkeldurr
It gets a Payback in before being Charmed.
I switch Merida in on a Stone Edge.
Conkeldurr misses a Hammer Arm as Merida Swords Dances.
Conkeldurr then actually hits a Hammer Arm, then Iron Head sends it into the red.
This means Full Restore, but Iron Head brings it back down.
Stone Edge doesn't do much, and Merida finishes the fightwith another Iron Head.

Final Battle!
>Vs Alder
>Accelgor
It might seem silly, but I start of with Dong Bai. She takes a Bug Buzz that does over half(so happy that didn't crit), but she gets a Light Screen up.
I then send Edelgard in on the next Bug Buzz.
The next two turns are Bulk Up turns where Accelgor fails to make use of Me First
On the final Screen turn, I go for Rock Slide, which does allow Accelgor to use that on Edelgard as well. Perhaps if I had gone the Belly Drum route, the Rock Slide could have cause some serious problems here...
>Bouffalant
Flare Blitz gets the oneshot, getting Edelgard to Level 78.
>Escavalier
Another Flare Blitz. HP is dropping a lot from the recoil of these Blitzes.
>Volcarona
Rock Slide gets an easy KO.
>Druddigon
I send Merida in on Outrage(which hurts quite a bit despite the resist).
Outrage keeps going, and Merida Swords Dances.
The Outrage finally stops and gives room for confusion, and then Iron Head gets the KO. Rough Skin puts Escavalier very close to the red- thank goodness for Shell Armor, a crit would have been the end of Merida, but she can't get crit.
>Vanilluxe
I send Mr Punch in on Flash Cannon.
A final Close Combat, and the Nuzlocke is over.

Gigalith and Simipour were the only mons not to get to shine during the league this time around, but they helped out in many other places- particularly against Cheren.

anyone here beat B1/W1 WITHOUT hacking in rare candies?
>>
>>56929360
>People like art that looks like this
>>
>>56929360
It's probably the easiest game to beat without the rare candies since you can just grind off Audinos. Faster than basically any other game at least
>>
>>56929360
People hack in Rare Candies?
>>
>>56929424
No? That is not true.
>>
>>56929464
A lot of people do it just to skip out on grinding. Personally I always thought as long as you're only doing it up to level caps it's not that big of an issue (deaths in grinding are so rare and so easily avoidable) - if anything it turns out worse for you anyway since you skip out on EVs. I can see why people dislike it cause it is technically cheating still but as long as you don't go above level caps you don't really get anything more out of it other than time saved.
>>56929471
How exactly is it not? Audino are literally everywhere, encounters are almost guaranteed since you can just rig shaking grass and they give you more experience than battles against trainers, etc, while also being extremely easy to kill since they aren't particularly strong and only learn normal moves. Way easier and faster to do that than it is to grind off exclusively wild mons that give mediocre experience like in all non-VS seeker games.
>>
>>56929516
>Way easier and faster to do that than it is to grind off exclusively wild mons that give mediocre experience like in all non-VS seeker games.
Unless you play on non-original hardware like every sane person.
>>
>>56929464
I hack in rare candies in pretty much every nuzlocke I play. There's no reason to waste time grinding, and it's even marginally harder because like >>56929516 says, you don't get EV's from Rare Candies
>>
>>56929522
Sure, but you can also just speed up against Audino too? If anything that makes Audino even faster cause the 10-15 seconds needed to run back-forth to rig shaking grass is now 1 second. GBA and earlier are probably a bit faster overall for most people since the rate they'd speed up is faster than a DS game, but then at that point if all you care about is how fast you're grinding then why not hack in the rare candies lol
>>
>>56929539
...because fast forward doesn't actually change the in game mechanics?
>>
>>56929547
What point are you even trying to make here? Which mechanics are fundamentally changed in any of these situations
>>
>>56929553
Cheating in rare candies completely removes the threat of Pokemon dying in battle? I cheat in rare candies but you can't pretend like it's a nothing modifier.
>>
>>56929587
They do, but also grinding is easily the part of the game you have the most control over. If you're that concerned about dying while grinding you can just grind against something of a lower level - takes a bit longer but equally removes all odds of you losing something to it. I really never got this sentiment - I can't think of a single time I've ever lost a mon while grinding against wild mons. Literally just press the run button lol
>>
>>56929594
Well maybe if you read other people in the threads posts you would know that it is a thing that happens.
>>
>>56929610
Well, that's on them really and doesn't moot my point. If the wild mons are too strong or too high level, grind somewhere else. The levels of the Pokemon and the Pokemon you encounter are the only variable thing on each route and you can see them beforehand. There's not a single aspect of any wild Pokemon that you can't go in knowing beforehand - their level is on display, their movesets are already known, their general stats are easy to predict since they're not trained at all. If you're grinding a Pokemon at half health, heal it beforehand or switch out - no point risking a crit. If the wild mon is higher level, again just switch out or grind somewhere else entirely. There's not a single situation where you're limited to 1 area to grind where you can't just heal, run away or switch. If you lose a Pokemon in grinding it's genuinely your fault entirely cause there's 50 other things you could've done beforehand to just not have that happen. I use rare candies cause in my head it's just a time saver since the "threat of Pokemon dying" to wild mons isn't there to begin with.
>>
>>56929635
If everyone had perfect decision making all the time nobody would lose anything skill based ever
>>
>>56929643
Well yeah but it doesn't need to be perfect. Your encounters, move accuracy, crits, etc are all not guaranteed and therefore nothing against any mandatory battle is either. But in this case you don't need perfect decision making it's just common sense - if you've got a Pokemon at level 20 and the wild mons are also level 20 you're at least evenly matched so just grind somewhere else or switch out. It's really not that hard
>>
>>56929663
How do casinos make money if everyone has common sense all the time?
>>
>>56929674
You do realise you're proving my point here, right? If you're choosing to go somewhere the odds are stacked against you and you lose, it's your fault, since you chose to go there. You have the option to just not do that.
>>
If you're dying to wild Pokemon, especially in vanilla games, then you aren't paying attention, nothing to do with decision making skills. You literally aren't paying attention.

>>56929674
Terrible analogy, casino's are intentionally rigged against the player
>>
>>56929681
...but it is more time efficient to grind in areas where you 2hko instead of 1hko. That is a gameplay choice that is removed if you hack in rare candies.
>>56929686
It wasn't an analogy, it was an example of a stupid thing that you can just not do, that people still do.
>>
>>56929686
>>56929720
I don't disagree that it's down to paying attention, but in my head that still revolves around decision making. You have the option to be in a situation where you don't have to pay attention, but it takes longer. You are both right technically - you have the option to either:
1. Grind somewhere where you get more exp and therefore grind faster, with the risk of potentially losing something
2. Grind somewhere you get less experience and therefore take more time, but minimise the risk of potentially losing
In terms of efficiency and wanting to win, the second option is correct, since it's the option that guarantees no deaths. However, the time is something which affects you actually personally in real life, so a lot will do the second. I use rare candies since it gives the best of both worlds while not actually changing anything gameplay wise. It's entirely a matter of choice of "Do I want to spend 6 hours with no deaths, 2 hours with potential deaths, or 10 minutes with no deaths". It's not removing a gameplay choice - it's giving me a third choice that lets me spend time actually playing the game, instead of just mashing A for hours on end.

Chuck's Team:
>Koffing
2HKO'd by Kanqi's Strength.
>Porygon2
Kanqi's Strength deals around 1/3rd of Porygon2's health as it sets up Curse, so I have Kanqi use Toxic as it sets up Curse again. Kanqi's Thunder does little, and a 3-Hit Pin Missle shaves off around 1/5th of Kanqi's HP, so 2 more Strength attacks plus poison kill Porygon2 (no thanks to the crit Leech Life it managed to land before dying).

Pryce's Team:
>Mantine
Manages to land a Screech on Nibsy before being 2HKO'd by Nibsy's Spark.
>Chikorita
2HKO'd by Nibsy's Icy Wind.
>Entei
I switch into Opal into a Vital Throw. I switch into Bessie onto another Vital Throw, taking up around half Bessie's HP. Though Bessie's Surf doesn't kill, she miraculously tanks a second Vital Throw with 5 HP left. Pryce wastes a turn using a Hyper Potion, and Bessie manages to KO Entei with 2 more Surf attacks.

I found an EXP Share in the Rocket HQ, and decided to retire Rebecca, at least for now. Hopefully Yelnats will be worth the trouble. That battle against Pryce was certainly a wakeup call to how poorly constructed my team is from a typing standpoint. I considered having Yari be my 6th, but the last thing I need is a 3rd water type. Gonna grind up Yelnats, and take on Jasmine soon.

It begins. I've never completed RenPlat before, but I'm definitely going to try this time. I've also decided to ban Gyarados as a viable encounter - might sound silly but it's the best mon available in basically every game while also being a guaranteed catch. Everyone's used one a million times, let's spice it up a bit
>>56928728
Not exactly the response I expected but Turtwig it is
>>
>>56929973
But you'd watch them mindlessly grind for god knows how long? And Swinub gets EV's that makes it a stronger Pokemon, thus making the fight easier than it would be otherwise? It's one thing not to like it, but it's another thing to sound like a moron.
>>
>>56929973
If every Youtuber is editing out the grinding anyway then what difference does it make
>>
>>56929996
What was the response you were expecting?
>>
>>56929973
Of course it's not a challenge. 41 level cap for Claire is vanilla game, and vanilla games are all piss easy nuzlockes. Like, if you can't first attempt any vanilla game without wiping, (And in the case of games like Lets Go/BDSP, deathless) you really shouldn't be talking about "too easy"

Sometimes you just get unlucky and run into something with Pursuit though, and sometimes you just make a mistake and get screwed by an ability or self destruct.
>>

Is it luck if you can just find out what learns Pursuit and if something with the move happens to show up in the encounter table, then you can avoid it.
Same with whatever has whichever ability or move that can screw you over. Exploding Pokemon you can also see from a mile away, like if you see a Graveler or Boldore then you know that thing's gonna blow.

I want to do another nuzlocke. Is there any other hacks on the quality and depth of Radical Red?

I've had some nuzlocke attempts in the past but then a Pokémon would die and I'd get bummed out about it and stop. I've been thinking of running X to then make a comic about it.

I USED UP ALL MY LUCK AT THE START

>rock slide missed like 3 times
>Zoroark got crit in one hit
Oh no bro. I managed to squeeze a win though. Cedric was able to tank flying moves with over half hp (damn) and Pupper cleaned up.

>There is an very short and unnecessary segment where I go drink a coffee and hang out with the Nurse from the Pokemon Center
VERY based. I'd probably find the game a lot more soulful had I found that out while playing the game.
Anyway, I lost my precious Salandit and Mudbray to a the fucking Rival one shotting them to deck. Shame, but it made me realize most of my mons are pretty weak.
Any suggestions on who to train in case I ever need a replacement?

Crobat is always a good one. Great stats, will be faster than probably anything else you see, great typing defensively. Wishiwashi, Pangoro and the (eventual) Vikavolt are quite strong too.

I forget how many encounters you actually get this early. Still another five before Roark. How do you guys decide your gift encounters, is it just one per area? Got four altogether from Jubilife so it's just a lot of bloat - I guess it's just pick one. Not decided just yet
>>
>>56941677
One per area. When it comes to the other region starters, I decide which one I take before I actually receive them. Also, hatch the trainer school egg inside the trainer school because it counts as a separate location.

And that's Roark done. Sandshrew has been putting in work so far - swept Barry with Rollout, big weight off my shoulders since that Munchlax can be scary. Also swept Roark - since his Nosepass has 0 moves to hit ground types you can just set up Defense Curl in his face. He was also nice enough to activate Sand Veil for me too. No deaths yet
>>56941821
Yeah, thought so. Technically didn't do that for Kanto but was going to use Zard before the other two so I've gone with that. Probably going to grab Quilava from the next and pray for Adaptability. I think I hatched the egg outside in Jubilife but I'm just going to count it as trainer school - I got given the egg in there it's the same thing. Likely not using it ever anyway.

I have a teambuilding challenge I like to try every now and then where I do something like picrel (not a serious team, just an example). Here's the rules:
>typical Nuzlocke rules, however
>instead of one encounter per route, you can catch as many unique dual-type Pokemon (or monotypes that evolve into dual-types, they're treated as such) as you like so you can teambuild
>If a 'mon dies, it's permaboxed or released, but you can catch and use an earlier stage of its evo line as long as it's dual-type
>Every Gym + E4 has to be done with a team like picrel where each Pokemon in a party slot shares a unique type with the 'mon next to it. Can't repeat types this way, so you can't do, for example, Charizard, Butterfree, Parasect, Jumpluff, because that would be a 3rd Flying type

Did this successfully for the first time in Pearl on hardware. After studying different Gens, here's the general stinkers for this challenge:
>Gen 1 is "possible" as referenced by picrel, but I don't know how feasible it is with things like Normal type being unusable unless it's slot 1 or 6 and repeated type combos among different lines like Grass/Poison and Ground/Rock
>Gen 2 suffers similar problems (mostly because a lot of the new Johtomons are in Kanto), but the start is even harder as all the starters are monotype, so now you likely have to postpone the challenge until you have enough species available to form a proper team
>BW is like Gen 2 where the early game suffers. You have 1 starter to choose in Tepig and the early game type diversity just isn't there to even match Fire or Fighting unless you get the event Victini, so the first Gym is just impossible with the rules, and the 2nd Gym can only be done with a two-Pokemon team of Tranquil and Woobat iirc, so you basically have to wait until the 3rd Gym to have fun

Anyways I want to do another run of this, any game suggestions? Official or romhacks, idc

Emerald or Platinum.
>>
>>56944484
Just saw where you already did Pearl, substitute Platinum for X or Y.
>>
>>56944484
>>56944492
After giving it some thought, looking at the regional dexes of Emerald and X/Y, I think I want to do both, actually.

Emerald adds just enough new type combinations to make the challenge playable in the early game, while not going overboard, because some strong types are still unpaired with anything or really hard to get around, like Fire and Electric.
On the other hand, X/Y grandfathers in most of the stuff from previous Gens, adds Fairy type to old mons for usability with the challenge, and makes Normal type usable, connecting it to Fire, Electric, and Ground.

I'll probably do Emerald first because I haven't emulated 3DS before and I don't feel like setting it up right now.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Smooth run so far almost lost Torchic to overworld poison lmao
Here's the team for Roxanne, leading with Shroomish.
>>
>>56947614
Roxanne was easy, not sure what I expected. Brawly's probably going to be the same. I haven't played Gen 3 in a very long time, but I don't think I ever noticed that Sableye just solo's the entire fight.
Am I correct? Is it just that easy?
>>
>>56948179
Unless Seismic Toss hits it, then yes. You should also always have at least one antidote on you at all times.
>>
>>56948980
Yeah Brawly got rekt. And yeah I immediately remedied the overworld poison problem after it happened, I normally do buy like 10 antidotes before the early game forest, but I just forgot this time around I guess.
>>
>>56947493
Parasect at least has attack, Ledyba has Sp.Def, on a bug type. Don't know why GF hates the Ledyba line in particular.

>Couldn't come up with a good tactic to beat Norman other than Toxic & Protect stall with Anorith

Thought Intimidate would be enough to blunt the hit from a Facade. Sadly the Slaking opted to use Focus Punch instead.

Not that i've done it, but maybe once per island?
