I have a bell curve of enjoyment in those games. Low until I get to about half way through the second island, then going great until I only have a few things left to do before finishing up because I put the least enjoyable parts off until the end.

Some of what I'd consider favorites are there like Vikavolt line, Lurantis and Mareanie. However the rest is really forgettable. It's also one of the first big offender of the furrymon uprising since gen4 overshilling of Lucario, holy fuck I despise Incineroar, Salazzle, Lycanroc and Zeraora. They literally ARE design like furry characters.Apart from that, the game in itself is just a mess of incredible ideas and innovation alongside decade of outdated game design. Deletion of HMs and rideable pokemon are so nicely implemented and makes the overworld gameplay better than it ever was. Finally giving up on the gym leaders for the island challeges was also very appreciated. They confront you to a challenge requiring a way more strategic approach to complete, even if sometimes frustrating. The game has the best human design in the franchise, this isn't even a controversial statement, removing the lolis and hags. I think Guzma or Kukui also have better appeal than most male design in the franchise.

In general the world is as boring as there could be, no snow place, barely any lush jungles despite being in hawaii, no interesting caves unlike gen5 and 6, small beaches, one town on water which is small as fuck, the best landmark is a canyon post endgame.Gen7 took three steps forward, then 3 steps backward and led the franchise exactly the same place gen6 left it. We have 3D, we have cool ideas but we're still outdated in game design by every game on the planet. What a shame. Still LEAGUES beyond what came afterward.
