Pokemon stopped being special when they stopped making custom cartridge shells for the games.

It was kind of lame, yeah. It also would have sucked with Black and White as a color scheme in the future because Black would look like an NDS cartridge unless they added something else to it.

Make it glittery like Crystal.
>>

the actual gen 5 games have noticably darker cartridges than the vast majority of ds games. they could have just used that for black.
>>
>>56928564
The Gen 5 carts were infra-red capable, they deliberately made them as so.

DS kids, Nintendo thought you didn't deserve this.

Nobody deserves this.

Bcus pokemon had the pull to able to do this

Pokemon was a system seller during gbc/gba era

Pokemon doesnt sell systems anymore, people buy it but its not driving purchase for a switch, mario kart or animal crossing is

>Pokemon doesnt sell systems anymore
So are we just going to ignore the fact that switch sales shot up with every pokemon release?
>>
>>56930063
The colored carts are incredibly kino desu
>>
>>56930063
They need to start coloring the cartridges again.
>>
In Japan, Gen I uses standard gray Game Boy cartridges and Gold and Silver are split navy blue + dark gray with the sides reversed. Only Crystal and Gen III match in both Japan and internationally.
>>
I'm thinking about buying a full priced pokemon game for switch because Im too stupid to emu things.
All I own is violet.

I know you’re probably joking, but small details like this actually do have an impact on public reception. We’ve been bleeding, slowly losing stuff like that, for decades.

HGSS, BW, and B2W2 have IR cartridges, so they're black and translucent.

Parallel universe oras carts look sexy. how hard is it to resell 3ds carts?
>>
>>56931564
Yeah, HGSS uses it for the Pokéwalker, and Gen V can use it for the C-Gear.
>>
>>56930582
why are you too stupid to do emu?
>>
>>56930215
The carts were dirt-cheap for Nintendo to produce, to the point adding dye to the plastic mix wasn't that expensive overall. By time DS came about, costs increased and the system itself stopped showing the world what game it was playing, the cart slot mechanics having been revisited to reduce the amount of empty space needed to swap out carts. Game Freak also started fucking around with dying communication features, turning the HGSS carts into infra-red send/receivers and making the pokéwalker that could talk to it to transfer pokémon to, meaning the carts had to be made of a very particular colour of plastic, to facilitate it.
If anything, Pokémon once again became the only series to not use the bog-standard nintendo shells for their carts for their entire release catalogue due to the IR features in later Gen 4 and Gen 5.
