Been playing since Gen 1 and a sight older than the average age of the genwun kids. This is why since buying back into the series in Gen after skipping Gen 3 I refuse to focus on the negatives or shortcomings of the series (of which there are many, some inherent from the outset) and instead enjoy what is presented.

Gen 2 7 8 are the best gens by far. Improving on the previous game while gens 2 and 8 had gens 3 and 9 put out games that are worse and the average player regresses back to the previous gen. You missed out on dens when it was fun. You missed out on the doubles meta. These are time sensitive things that made the game more fun that cannot be measured. You were either there or not.
I played Scarlett and poo poo on its release and it was bad. I struggled to pay attention to the games storyline in favor of wandering around. Whoever thought a open world map design like this is stupid.

So the main storyline is you have to battle 8 gyms defeat the enemy team and save something.
