a small minority of smarks hate Junichi, mostly due to ignorance of what all he's responsible for that matters

He made pretty much all the battle themes---which are world class and among if not the most acclaimed battle themes in all of video game history

He saved the series from death twice, once during Gen I after a data loss and again during Gen II during Satoshi's breakdown

He designed and crafted both Ruby and Sapphire and Diamon and Pearl, laying the groundwork for the two best games in the series Emerald and Platinum, which even despite being easy ROMhacks after all the hard work was done in the base games, still have nitpickable flaws versus the bases as a pair

Junichi is pretty much responsible for Pokemon as most of the world knew it during its heyday, which was a recovery period from its crash and burn as a fad in the pokemania era

When you know the full story it becomes impossible to hate him, even with his 2010s fumbles

He's a better idea guy and businessman than Tajiri is but his decision to pump out games as frequently as possible has done irreparable damage to the franchise we're still feeling the affects of now that he's "left" it. It also seems like he has no real care for Game Freak as a creation studio outside of Pokemon because absolutely none of the games they've made have ever gotten any attention or respect. He really should've stuck to just music and collaboration if there were others who could focus on the scope of the games we wouldn't have needed "third version fixes" for so long

I agree with what you say (apart from using personal names for Japanese developers and Ruby and Sapphire being great, they're the earliest indicator of what rushed base games for a Gen feels like).

>>56942462
There's no way Masuda is actually responsible for the increase in game release frequency. I would think that would come from TPC or even Nintendo.

Tajiri had promised a sequel in a year. A year passed and he burnt out and gave up. Masuda got it out in 2 more. Then he composed Gen III in around 2 years. Gen IV got delayed a year, Gen V also took 4. Yet instead of taking that as a sign to tone it down, he rushed out a 3D game in 3 years and made Ohmori do it in less for SM since he was busy working on ORAS while Masuda started working on LGPE immediately after ORAS was done. Somehow this lead to Pokemon needing 3 year cycles instead of 4. Game Freak splits their dev teams basically in half, and in the Switch generation, into a third so USUM could simultaneously exist with LGPE and SwSh

Let's look at the anime for reference. The longest, most padded seasons were Johto and Sinnoh. These were games we know were actually delayed. Because of this, Orange Islands and Battle Frontier were made to pad out the time between release and then the actual seasons were planned accordingly to give the games some brething room to cook. RS/BW needed the arbitrarily padded out Johto/Sinnoh seasons to finish the most

The moment they kicked shit into high gear, during XY, is also the last region where they were doing movie tie-ins altogether because suddenly there was no time to concurrently animate big theatrical commercials due to how fast the franchise was going. The 2010s had 4 generations of Pokemon as opposed to 2000s having 3 tops (that's including GS to be generous)

Furthermore, Game Freak are an independent studio. I sincerely doubt an irrelevant suit wanted a quicker pace when they were growing pretty fast in the 2000s. Why is it that after Masuda suddenly left after SwSh was shat onto store shelves, Game Freak slows things down again and they suddenly have down time to work on two games and have a year without a major update? The repercussions of the 2010s having too much Pokemon all at once is what hurt the games. Who at Game Freak was responsible for that?

Where can I read more about what happened to Tajiri during Gen 2? I knew that he handed the game to Masuda to reboot the development and turn the Japan region into Johto because he wasn't satisfied with the state of the Spaceworld version, but the specifics of the situation and him experiencing burnout/giving up are news to me.

We can only assume due to how he basically ghosted the industry after GS. Some people try to play it up as he just decided to focus on business stuff exclusively which feels odd for an aspiring game creator like him to do. You read his biographical manga and get the sense of a man that wants to create and then suddenly after Pokemon he wants to be a businessman? Even people like Miyamoto and Sakurai who have been in the industry longer or around the same time as Tajiri still create and work despite how rough it is

Nothing from the leaks really give us the whole story either, unfortunately. Your best bet is the scraps TCRF has documented so far because the only mention of Tajiri in the leaks were scanned papers giving power of attorney of the franchise with his signature

I don't think we can hide behind this man to shit on Masuda. One stuck with the franchise while the other basically doesn't exist anymore

Because of COVID retard
and economic downturn
