Goes down in history as the best Gen since

we cant possibly know

A childish fad that came and went, wouldn't have got back into it if not for physical/special split and a bunch of pokemon that looked not fully evolved getting a bunch of cool new evolutions
>>
Would be pretty pathetic

You know how the ADV Revival has led to an absolute explosion of popularity that has blown every other non-current gen out of the water?

Without the intrusion of DPPt and premature termination of this generation's heyday, what ended up taking 15 years for people to discover just how good Gen III's metagame is would have occurred before its debut decade was even over.

It would really have followed a trajectory similar to Melee sans its own soft-reboot.

There's no denying that the popularity of Lucario and Garchomp and Cynthia, among some other things, can hardly be matched here, I do think Hoenn's roster offers enough to inspire amazement.
