>kinda feel like nuzlocking>gen 1 is too easy to break and solo>gen 2 is alright but desire to play kanto is very low>don't like gen 3 or anything after 6>platinum is alright I guess>gen 5 has a very slow start and is quite hard>3DS servers are kill so gen 6 feels empty nowI'm so indecisive...
>>56965988You could always use him up to when you lost him and box him after the fact.>>56966269Sounds to me like you're already leaning towards Platinum.
>>56966653maybe, but I beat it recently so... ehhh. the idea is good in my head, but I can't bring myself to do it. I can't shake off this wishy-washy feeling. even when I try to do gen 2 kanto, I get this "this is a waste of time" feeling.
>>56963577>Congrats! What next for you? Thanks! And honestly, not really sureI feel like I should do a Crystal run at some point since I haven't done gen 2 yet and I figure it'd be fun, but I also kind of really want to do Emerald Seaglass since I played it casually recently and really liked it. Plus I also get to ban Huge Power Tinkaton, which'll make the game an actual challenge (You get a Tinkatink for free following Meteor Falls and you can Ability Patch it to Huge Power. This trivializes the entire game)
>>56966762Maybe try a ROMhack? RenPlat or Crystal Kaizo+ could give you a nice shot in the arm, though they are pretty sweaty games, esp the latterI know you're not big on gen 3, but I find Emerald and Emerald Seaglass to be very fun games to rush down
>>56967109>Huge Power Tinkaton
>>56966762I also second Renegade Platinum, if you feel like the vanilla games are too easy
>>56967155It's exactly as insane as you think it is. It's not only stronger than base Pure Power Medicham, but its' Gigaton Hammer is stronger than Mega Medicham HJK252 Atk Huge Power Tinkaton Gigaton Hammer vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Shaymin: 363-427 (106.4 - 125.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO252 Atk Pure Power Medicham-Mega High Jump Kick vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Shaymin: 354-417 (103.8 - 122.2%) -- guaranteed OHKOThis thing practically solo'd the endgame of Seaglass for me, doing everything from OHKOing Maxie's Camerupt from full with Gigaton to sweeping Drake to basically carrying every single double battle in the game past WinonaThis thing is HG/SS Gyarados levels of broken and I'm genuinely thinking of implementing a clause for Emerald Seaglass where it's banned.
>>56967404And you get that for FREE? What the heck
>>56967344romhacks aren't my cup of tea. maybe I'll try gen 5. I'll ponder it for a while.
>>56967418Yeah, you get gifted an egg outside of Meteor Falls. Now while that should balance it, since it is an investment, the game also lets you buy EXP candiesOh, and there is also a secret code to get it as your starter. And it also got stat buffs to make it bulkierIt's insanely cracked, which is saying a lot in a game that gives you a plethora of insanely cracked options, from Slowking before Brawly to Annihilape to Ground/Flying Dodrio to early Kangaskhan (with buffed attack/bulk and nerfed speed) to a whole bunch of other stuff I haven't even gotten to testHonestly, if you were looking to nuzlocke a ROMhack, I'd almost recommend going with Seaglass since it's so newbie friendly and stacks so much in your favor that you get to enjoy it without being blindsided by EK levels of "fuck you". Except for Brawly. They gave Brawly a Heracross with Knock Off
Post-Fantina update. Aaron was a lot easier than expected, getting up rocks + Adaptability Lava Plume immediately cleared it. Fantina was rough. Never thought I'd give MVP to a Wigglytuff but the ghost immunity was vital. Didn't expect Mightyena to get one-shot by a crit Shadow Ball but happens. Rather lose it than anything else. Back to it
Starting a nuzlock of Emerald Z.
>>56968143And in Petalburg City, home to Sidney's gym, I leave you for tonight
>>56925562We mopped the floor with both the Magma grunts and Tabitha, as my Nuzlocke of Inclement Emerald continuesThe plan was simple:See, Flygon actually gets a Mega Evolution in this game, with a new ability that turns sound moves (ie, Boomburst) into Ground-type, and it gets Quiver DanceAll we had to do was set up Stealth Rock with Kommo-o, then get Flygon in safely against Gigalith, stand its ground (with Roost to heal off any damage if need be), but two Quiver Dances was all it tookFlygon gave 'em quite a show, and Dragon Pulse took care of GliscorPlanning for this fight wracked my brain a bit because Tabitha's Excadrill and Mega Steelix under the sand are utter menacesNow we have to plan for something a bit more stressful, being the tag battle against Maxie and Courtney alongside StevenI thankfully have the exact same Pokemon I used the last time I tried this (Wailord, Corsola, Goodra), so I imagine the plan should still be similar to then, but I think I'll save the planning for later
Now playing Ultra Moon. Lost my Black 2 save. This time I am doing level caps. I have to keep rotating my party to prevent over-leveling. Current level cap is 20 until I do the water totem.
>>56968595Forgot image. I ended up missing a couple of pokemon. Crit one and the other was an Abra.
>>56968394So it's only the league left then?>>56968595How did you lose your save?
I picked up dokimon and I'm doing a nuzlocke on my first playthrough. I really liked the idea of a blind challenge run.
>>56969408I was emulating, and my laptop battery ran dead while saving. This incident also fucked up my cookies and browser settings. Had another save state but it was three or four hours back and it didn't feel right since I caught, leveled, and lost several pokemon in that time.
Beat the water totem. I used Magnemite. He almost died but Light Screen, Charge Beam, Thunder Wave, and two X-Def got the job done.In the process, Hooty hit the next level cap. I can still use him for the fire totem if I box him now. Of course, why would I want to use him for the fire totem? Now that I have a rod and can surf I can fill my team with water pokemon.
>>56969408>So it's only the league left then?Almost there:There's Maxie next, then Archie at Seafloor Cavern, then Juan, and after that, we'll be at Victory Road, so the finish line is almost in sight
>VS Sidney>Ernie the Azumarill takes Mightyena out with 2 Brick Breaks while tanking a Crunch>Cacturne comes out. I Swap in Cura the Ninetales who gets hit by a Cotton Spore before she burns the Cactus down with a Flamethrower>Sharpedo comes out. I swap Ernie back in who gets a nice attack boost from Swagger while eating his Persim Berry>Ernie takes a crit Slash and some damage from Sharpedo's Rough Skin but then proceeds to sweep the rest of Sidney's team with Brick Break>VS Phoebe>Sandy the Sandslash leads and hits Dusclops with an Earthquake>Dusclops uses Confuse Ray which does nothing because Sandy has a Persim Berry>Phoebe tries to heal. Second Earthquake crits and takes the first ghost down>Second Dusclops comes out. I swap in Ernie who tanks an Ice Beam which also freezes him>Ernie stays frozen for a turn while Dusclops uses Confuse Ray which again does nothing since Ernie, albeit frozen can still somehow eat his Persim Berry>Ernie thaws on the second turn and the two exchange 2 Surfs and Shadow Balls. Dusclops eats it's Sitrus Berry>Third Surf puts Dusclops down to red hp. For some reason Phoebe doesn't heal and the second ghost goes down to the fourth Surf>Banetter comes out. Ernie is badly hurt so i swap in Cura who tanks a Shadow Ball>Cura hits Banette with a Will-o-Wisp while getting hit by a Spite>Cura tanks a Shadow Ball. Flamethrower coupled with the damage from burn takes out the third ghost>Sableye comes out. I swap in Sandy into a crit Shadow Ball that also lowers sp.def>Sableye lives an Earthquake with 1 hp. Sandy tanks a Faint Attack>Phoebe tries to heal again but the second Earthquake oneshots the fourth ghost>Second Banette comes out. I swap in Richie who tanks a Shadow Ball and then Toxic while hitting back with an Earthquake>Second Earthquake finishes the fight
>>56970887>VS Glacia>Things get off to a bad start when i realise that a Brick Break from Ernie isn't even enough to oneshot the first Glalie>Glalie also outspeeds and hits Ernie with a Crunch>Glacia tries to heal but a second Brick Break negates it>Glalie gets off another Crunch before going down to a Brick Break>Sealeo comes out and i catch a lucky break when the third Brick Break crits and takes it out before it has a chance to do anything>Second Sealeo is bulkier and lives 2 Brick Breaks while it sets up Hail>Second Glalie comes out. Ernie tanks a Crunch while sticking to his Brick Break ways>Glacia tries to heal but another Brick Break negates it. Ernie tanks one last Crunch before taking out the second Glalie>Walrein comes out. Ernie is at deaths door so i swap in Richie who tanks a crit Body Slam that luckily doesn't paralyze>Richie hits Walrein with an Earthquake that barely does ~35% of it's hp in damage>Richie dodges a Blizzard. Good thing the Hail stopped during the turn the last Glalie went down>Gigachad Richie dodges another Blizzard while taking Walrein out with a crit Earthquake>VS Drake>Richie's Modest nature finally comes into play when he sweeps Drake's entire team with Ice Beam while tanking a Dragonbreath from one of the Flygons and a Dragon Claw from the Salamence
>>56971049>VS Steven>Cura burns down the Skarmory with Flamethrower before it has a chance to do anything>Steven doesn't fuck around and immediately sends out Metagross>Cura stays in and fires off another Flamethrower that sadly even with Charcoal barely fails to take the metal monstrosity down in one hit. Cura dies to an Earthquake.>I send in Sandy. Metagross eats it's Sitrus Berry>Sandy tanks a Psychic and revenge kills Metagross with an Earthquake of his own>Aggron comes out. Sandy outspeeds and kills it with an Earthquake>Cradily comes out. Sandy hits it with an Earthquake which fails to kill. Sandy dies to a Giga Drain>Dinomight comes out. Cradily somehow outspeeds and hits it with a Confuse ray>Dinomight hits itself in confusion while also tanking an Ancient Power>Dinomight manages to setup Sunny Day but tanks a Sludge Bomb in the process that also poisons him>Dinomight fights through the confusion and fires off a Solarbeam that sadly fails to kill Cradily. Dinomight dies to another Sludge Bomb + poison damage>I send out Ernie. Steven heals while Ernie hits Cradily with an Ice Beam>Second Ice Beam once again fails to kill and Cradily gets off a Giga Drain that that chunks Ernie for almost half his hp pool>Third Ice beam finally takes out the prehistoric plant>Claydol comes out and manages to setup Light Screen before Ernie hits it with a Surf>Claydol hits Ernie with an Earthquake while Ernie breaks the Screen with a Brick Break>Ernie tanks another Earthquake and takes Claydol out with a second Surf>Armaldo comes out. I swap in Richie who tanks a crit Slash before taking Stevens final pokémon out with a SurfGlacia could have gone far worse but Steven certainly could have gone a lot better. Dinomight probably would have swept the last 3 pokémon if i had given it a Persim Berry instead of a Miracle Seed. At least the 2 water bros made it through alive. Leaf Green next. Hoping for a Bulbasaur starter since it's his version.
>>56970087That sucks, but it happens i guess. How's the new run going currently?
>>56968394And just like last time, we pull off basically the same strategy:Wailord's Drizzle undoes Ninetales's Drought, we equip a Chesto Berry to protect us from Victreebel's Sleep Powder, Surf is nullified by Cradily's Storm Drain and powers it up to +1 Sp Atk while doing considerable damage to Ninetales, and Cradily finishes the jobWe Protect the next turn to gauge what Krookodile will do (went for Knock Off on Cradily), but to my surprise, Cradily got a Crit onto it, sending in HoundoomFearing another Sleep Powder, I switched to Goodra, but it took a bit too much damage from Victreebel's Poison Jab afterwards for my likingThen Life Orb knocked itself out, and Cradily wiped out Houndoom with Earth PowerFrom there, Maxie's Crobat was dealt with by Corsola, tanking its Brave Bird, but it would've also been at the mercy of Hypnosis, which it landed against CradilyAnd then... the absolute mad lad sea lily woke up immediately and was out for blood, knocking out Crobat right after with a Power GemFrom there, it was checkmate: we both outsped Mega Camerupt and blasted it with Earth Power and Water PulseI prayed for Steven to clutch up and he went above and beyond, which I'm very grateful forNow we prepare for Seafloor Cavern; two hard to dodge optional grunts means I should take care of 'em so I don't have to worry, but they should be small timeArchie should also be small time, as the same strategy I pulled off last time should still work again this time, when I get to him
>>56967452I was expecting the game to be harder thanks to Brawly (he was easy because my encounter from the Wishinh Star well was Murkrow but still) but nope
>red>roll Charmander as my starter>don’t get a Nidoran!M on Route 22>get a fucking Pikachu instead of a Caterpie or a Metapod in ViridianI’ve been grinding in the forest for two hours for Brock…
>>56972780nidoran only gets double kick early in yellow
Wasn't originally planning on leveling the Marill I caught, but with how weak the rest of the team is against Numel(one of the most common enemy mons), I decided to make it at least a temporary team member.I've been ridiculously lucky with Pickup, so many nuggets. Might be able to afford a Game Corner TM at a reasonable point in the game.>Vs Wattson>MagnemiteFalls to a single Mach Punch from The Cap'n.>VoltorbMach Punch crit! Very helpful since this thing has SelfDestruct and while I doubt it would kill, a crit would do massive damage.>MagnetonAnother Mach Punch, then The Cap'n gets paralyzed by Thunder Wave. He still gets the Mach Punch hit next turn finishing the battle.
>>56968371Brawly kinda tough, working the badges as I go since I dunno them fully
>>56971538Beat fire totem with Megami. TM Double Team and Water Pulse move tutor with water z move made him a beast. I'm going to rotate the party again so I don't overlevel.
>>56973012Oh I know that, I just wanted a better mon then Rattata (who ended up dying to a strangely strong Weedle poison sting crit).I beat Brock without any casualties by just debuffing his mons liberally with Growl and Sand Attack, slowly chipped down Geo with my Beedrill using Fury Attack and Onix was Ember’d to death by Charmander. Now I’m on to Mt. Moon, I picked up the guaranteed Magikarp and got Zubat for my Mt. Moon encounter, I was honestly hoping for anything else besides that lol. My current team is>Charmeleon>Pikachu>Beedrill>Pidgey>Zubat>MagikarpI’m still really weak against rock types (of course Zubat doesn’t learn Absorb in RB), I would’ve loved a Geodude or a Paras to help deal with the hikers. Shit a Clefairy would’ve been awesome, I could have given it my currently useless Water Gun TM.
Just finished my first encounter with Guzman. Man's Golisopod was a mother fucker. Sadly he ended up killing my girl Pheabee, who was able to paralize and Growl Golisopod to death. I just saw on the Nuzlocke Tracker app I'm fairly close to my boy Nekrozma. Hopefully Route 12 gives me a good mon to catch.
>>56974094>Go to Route 12>Find a GravelerOh neat, never played with one before and he will be good in my tea->Self-DestructGosh darn it.
>>56974153>he wasn’t scared shitless of wild GravelerWell at least you are now.
>>56974341In my defense I had my trusty Alolan Dugtrio up so the damage wasn't that bad. It's just the fact that I missed 2 wild encounters in a row to my encounter preferring killing itself over joining my party.
>>56974094>I'm fairly close to my boy NekrozmaNot really. You’ve got Acerola, Iki Town, the second baddie area, then 90% of Poni before that.
Goodbye Box Fucking keckleon used screech.
AHHHH I forgot about ancientpower.
>>56973077Huge Power Azumarill is nothing to scoff at, you might end up liking it a lot.
It has been much too long since I last attempted a full series nuzlocke, I tried doing one a year and a half ago that I abandoned at Soul Silver, but I'm returning with renewed vigor and love for these games, excited to see if I can't make it this time. This is the current team right after Pokemon Tower, Quandale Dingle the Beedrill has actually been the MVP until Marcel was high enough level, after getting Twineedle at level 20 he's been mowing through the Poison types which are just about everywhere thanks to Bug being super effective this gen, I definitely didn't expect him to be this good and for so long, but he has been pulling his weight consistently since. This is about the time where this becomes a Psychic type solo run however, there's already limited enough EXP to go around and I can realistically sweep the rest of the game with Marcel, but I've let my hubris get the better of me before this
>>56975191I know the power of Huge Power Azumarill, I don't really want to waste it on Ruby if I don't need to.
>>56971102Got my Bulbasaur who then got promptly his shit kicked out of him by my rivals Charmander thanks to a crit Scratch. Good thing the challenge only starts when i gained access to poké balls.
Sad to lose Forretress to Clair since he's like one of 3 steel types in Johto, but at least we didn't wipe out to Clair this time. I played like an idiot thinking she would Dragon Pulse instead of Hydro Pump but I guess the Gen 4 AI goes for the strongest move even if it can miss.
Cuddles took care of the kahuna. Second island is done. Geez, I forgot how many pokemon this game gives you. I counted Route 8 twice (once for fossil) and the three different sections of Route 1 because the tracker I was using did so. But still I've had like 3 or 4 misses and I still have this many after the second island.
actually have some time off work to work on the nuzlocke generatorFeel free to reply with bug reports, feature requests, etc
>>56967512Extremely rough pre-Maylene update. Lost Crobat, Kadabra and Mismagius all to the two ace trainers just outside of Veilstone. Overestimated the damage I'd do - Gyarados lived a Shock Wave on 10HP, then Kadabra got crit by Dazzling Gleam, then Gardevoir lived a Poison Fang on 10HP. Really rough trio of mons to lose just before the fighting gym. I've still got about 28 things in the box plus a few other encounters I can grab but this still stings. Thinking of doing a generations run after this - how do you guys think doing them is the best? Might get a bit boring to do Red, Blue and Yellow all consecutively. Part of me was tempted to just skip out on RBY completely.
>>56977098Maybe more a spacing issue than a bug, but sometimes the met location overlaps with the nature text if it's long enough. Also, I feel that Pinwheel Forest should be separated by outer and inner, seeing as they have mostly seperate encounters.
>Oddish (at 20 hp) dodged a Sonic Boom that I wasn’t expecting
>>56977863It's always strikes when you don't expect it.
>>56971793Yeah it's easy but it's fun>>56974015Honestly I wouldn't worry about Rock types too much in gen 1. Rock moves outside of the elusive Rock Slide don't exist in gen 1 and their special is usually so weak you can just bulldoze them even with resisted hitsWorst case you pick up a Grass outside of Cerulean
>>56977202You could always just do a single gen 1 Kanto run, or you could alternate gens until you finish gen 1, red then gold, blue then silver, etc.
Beat electric totem. Clubber demolished it. I was a bit concerned because I accidentally brought Jackass and Hooty over the level cap before I started the totem.
>>56975598>Bronn soloes Brock and then almost dies against Misty because he leveled up & learned Razor Leaf against Staryu and then managed to hit the 5% miss twice before taking Starmie out with the third Razor Leaf>Santos the Sandslash soloes SurgeNot a lot of permanent team mates yet. Santos is probably staying since i invested TMs on him but Geodude, Pidgeotto and Fearow are probably going sooner or later since i kinda want to try and champion a Dodrio and Santos is already filling the ground/rock move role. Vilibert the Jigglypuff might join the team if i need an Ice Beam / Thunderbolt mon but that is until much later.>>56977098No requests. Just wanted to thank you for the cool tool.
Bump.
>>56975449Fair enough, you could always just use it up to a point though.
>>56977202So Wake was rough. I knew it'd be a hard fight - it's where I wiped last time - but this was harsher than I thought. His strat is fairly simple: he's got perma-rain in his gym which enables all his Swift Swimmers. The solution is a bit harder to deal with - we have to remove the rain and set up rocks to remove Sharpedo's Focus Sash. Wigglytuff was the choice for this, setting up Sunny Day, setting up Rocks, and for good measure Charming the Quag to be able to switch into P-Z and Plot up for the sweep. There was always a death risk, and after the 3rd Charm to get Quag to -6 (for good measure), Rubinia got crit. A shame, but I thought "Rather him than Porygon". P-Z was able to set up a Nasty Plot and swept through 4/6 of the mons with ease. Then came Floatzel. I thought I'd calced it right, but I didn't factor the sun ending. Aqua Tail ended up killing Porygon and it all fell apart from there. Roserade and Scizor also fell in the aftermath to Floatzel and Ludicolo respectively. Zaffai managed to win it out for us on 10HP. Very rough to lose some of our best Pokemon, straight off the heels of losing Gallade in the double battle on Route 212 and Gengar in the pre-gym Barry fight.Surely it's all uphill from here. Right?
>>56973077I might have found my long term answer to Camerupt and its kin. Utu the Solrock.>Vs Flannery>Slugma 1 and 2Utu Throws Rocks at them.>TorkoalRock Throw does a bit less than half, and Torkoal scores a paralysis with a Body Slam.Another Body Slam, and I have Utu use Confusion to avoid the heal range.A third Body Slam, and then Rock Throw ends the battle.
>>56983737On another note, I have leveled my team very unevenly up to this point, basically focusing hard on the most relevant mons for the next gym. I think I'm gonna try and get the team more on par before Norman.
God fucking damn, I feel like a champion right now. I ran into that shitty rival fight right before Ilex Forest WAY too early and thought for sure I was dead. This stupid fight has been a chokepoint in many runs where I was far too impatient and went in without grinding or strategizing at all......I came out of it this time with NO CASUALTIES. Only one party member even got into the yellow, and that was solely due to residual poison damage the turn before I switched her out.God damn do I love this stupid Butterfree. Might actually box her before she has the chance to die.
>>56983749IDK if you need to know this, but be sure to pick up Toxic before Norman. And yeah I'd def level everything evenly for Norman, because otherwise you WILL lose something there
And that is Red done with, I usually would've updated more frequently, but really the only thing of interest that happened was the death of Quandale Dingle, otherwise it was a clean sweep by Marcel all the way to the end. The mons champed here are mostly strategic picks, Venonat to help facilitate a Pinsir encounter in GSC National Park, Oddish to guarantee a Paras encounter in Ilex Forest (to help facilitate the very same Pinsir encounter) and Rattata because...well it's Rattata, I just don't feel like using it, hahaOnwards to Blue, which will likely be second verse same as the first, except with the slower but bulkier Drowzee/Hypno>>56984313Oh I really like this idea of a Cute Charm nuzlocke, that's a neat concept! Also yeah, Butterfree is definitely a sleeper hit early game, almost perfect accuracy sleep coming from 70 base speed is pretty great, lotsa free turns
>>56986323That's a big gamble to take if Marcel got unlucky, but gen 1 psychic types are that broken i guess.
Do you guys use any specific tools or websites to generate names?
>>56987281It is a pretty big gamble, yeah, which is why I only dare do it with Gen 1 Psychics, and even then only after I've gained enough stat exp to be confident that it's possible. I usually do a tight 4 mon team until that point since grinding is such a chore in gen 1, better to consolidate the exp and just make sure to take on every trainer. I am a little excited to get to Gen 2 where I can actually have a full team without having to play catch-up so hard, I'm already planning ahead a little for what I wanna do
>>56984685Good advice.I'm a bit split on Toxic though. Mawile can switch in on a lot of things and intimidate them, so putting Toxic on it could work, but Dustox is custom built for Toxic stall.Thing is, Dustox gets the move naturally later, but not in time for Norman if I put it on Mawile...
>that level spike after the ghost totemOops had to sacrifice my poor Slowbro.Just got an egg from my starter. Just in case something happens, I'd like the child to continue the parent's legacy. There are a few routes and cities I can hatch it in.
>>56987802I think Mawile would be the better choice, it resists normal and intims after all.
Beat the Totem Mimikyu. I was fairly overleveled for it but he was as much of a bitch as I remembered him. What I completely forgot was that he had a Lum Berry and my strategy of paralyzing him ended up killing my girl Perona (Charjabug), the first Pokemon I caught. I also misread Muk's Venom Drench and wasted a turn.He hit for over 50% of all of my mon's health, for the exception of Trump the Golbat (Not named after Doland) who was able to confuse Ray + poison Mimikyu (Who got slowed down by Golduck's Icy Wind) to death while tanking his allies' hits. Now I'm starting to fear I'm running low on good mons to play with. The top row are my mons with a level higher than 33 and the rest are <20.
>>56988304Sounds about right, I'll go with that.I suspect my Mawile's moveset will eventually be >Attacking move of some sort>Toxic>Iron Defense>Baton Pass
My Red run died in Lavender Town yesterday, I got absolutely robbed by confusion (the status) and sleep RNG from a Channeller’s Ghastly and Haunter. I’m gonna start a new run today.
>>56990791Annnd all of my encounters are identical so far lol. RBG moment.
>>56987697No, i come up with nicknames on my own, some are references, others are random letters that sound like names, and the rest are just names.
>>56987697Usually use reference names, sometimes with a theme, occasionally just go with something on a whim.
>>56990791godspeed fellow gen 1 enjoyer
>gen 1 nidoqueen CAN'T learn Digwhat the FUCK
>>56992942>>56991968I feel like a fag for using ChatGPT then.
>>56994097I name them using the same letters that are available in their ENG dub name, so I use a random word generator (from letters) to give me ideas on names that I would usually miss
>>56993920Gen 1’s just like that. Jolteon doesn’t even learn Thunderbolt naturally, if you don’t want to use the Thunderbolt TM on it you have to make do with Thundershock until level 54 where it’ll learn Thunder.
>>56994131yeah, I haven't played in a minute, so I probably knew at some point but forgot
Just fought the old man and I'm on my way to the Aether Foundation to save Lillie. However, Nanu's Sableye was giving Pangoro a beatdown and swapped into Ace to hit it with that 110 Acrobatic, but it turned out it had Power Gem and 1-shotted poor Ace. My MVP Clown Emoji would come to kill him but Blackbeard Persian would Power Gem for a 1-shot (Shockingly, considering he was the bulkiest fucker in my team.)Rip Dr Pavel's Brother Ace and the Whitebeard Pirates' father Clown Emoji.
>>56983737Well, I just caught a shiny Swablu. Might want to run it on the team, but if I want to use a Dragon Dance Altaria I need to give it Earthquake, which would rob Solrock of it. Solrock can probably get by on some combo of Rock Slide/Shadow Ball/Psychic/Overheat or Fire Blast/Calm Mind
Theme of the run is basic Pokémon with low stats. Either ones that can't evolve or ones that can only evolve with stones. I want to fight Koga before Erika and Sabrina but my traded Pokémon aren't obeying any suggestions to add to the squad current Rotation is Pikachu, Onix, Clefairy, Eevee, Vulpix, Exeggcute, Farfetch'd, and Staryu. First 4 are native the second 4 are traded.
Pokemon Blue is a-go! Three gyms down and they all went relatively easily; Brock was slain quick as you like by Tuille the Squirtle who was then boxed right away, Misty taken down by Sixty the Beedrill thanks to Twineedle, even oneshotting her Starmie thanks to a lucky crit. Surge was a complete joke thanks to Pangolinda the Sandslash, even if Dig wasn't 100 power this gen she still wouldn't have had any issues. Natalya the Nidoqueen was a big help along the way, keeping Sixty alive until he learned Twineedle and could reliably fend for himself, but she's benched as well since I'd rather save Nidoqueen for a gen where you can't sweep half the game with a competent Psychic type alone.>>56994624Definitely agree with giving Altaria Earthquake in that situation, Solrock would be more than fine without it, but Altaria definitely needs it to have more than just Aerial Ace or Fly as a good attacking move>>56994527Dang, those are some heavy losses, always a sad moment when the opponent pulls out a move you didn't expect and just crushes a mon. I have a lot of bad memories of Fighting type mons in X and Y, pulling out shit like Poison Jab against a should-be-safe Fairy type
>>56995185>Altaria definitely needs it to have more than just Aerial Ace or Fly as a good attacking moveIt gets good special moves to fill out the moveset, but it can only boost Attack.
>do gen 1 nuzlocke>it becomes a nidoqueen solo runI love gen 1 but it's awful for nuzlockes. it's just way too easy.
>>56995266It’s easy up until it hits you with bullshit like gen 1 sleep and crit chance.I find using level caps and banning setup moves helps alleviate the solo run problem, but that also causes a new problem where you’re much more vulnerable to gen 1’s BS.
First round of E4 done. Was pretty impressed by how tanky and useful Xatu is -- Wish + U-Turn is a really useful tech. And with 31 Attack IVs and 252 Attack EVs Persian has solid damage output for a Route 2 ass mon.Raikou sort of stole the show though, it was able to sweep through big portions of the E4 so I didn't have to use fallback strats. Felt kind of cheap, but I did catch the fucker with a single Pokeball and grinded out the game corner and rock smash everything and EV train, so I obviously didn't want to lose 60 hours of gameplay by picking a worse mon. Might drop Raikou for something else for Kanto though./blog
>wiped again in Red, this time to being a retard and walking back into a trainer I skipped while my team was weakFUCK ITI’M GOING AGAIN
>>56996451I feel that. I lost a couple mons in my run to just not paying attention and fighting optionals I shouldn't have (Butterfree trainer outside of Vermillion, arguably the Raticate fight on Mt. Moon)Pro tip: the best encounter in the game is the practically free Abra you get in Celadon>You have more than enough money to buy it with coins by that point>You have tons of places to switch train it until it evolves>Psychic is literally one town over>Rocket Hideout+Pokemon Tower is free as fuck for it, especially if you evolve it into Zam>>56995266I definitely feel that. It's basically a Nidoking/Nidoqueen solo challenge until you get your psychic of choice to steamroll the rest of the game with. Combine that with terrible learnsets for you and your opponent and absurdly exploitable aI and it's easy to the point of not even being interesting>>56995461I tried level caps and while it does make some segments more interesting since you have to be careful not to overlevel, esp from Surge-Sabrina, it kinda becomes moot once you can just swap between the Psychics and Nidoking to bulldoze everything, doubly so since the Psychics (esp Zam and Starmie, both of which are near guaranteed encounters) are so fast and strong they just one-shot everythingThat being said, before then I absolutely did lose a couple mons to some nightmarish RNG, including my starter Charizard to Sabrina's Alakazam, and my Pikachu to some horseshit Butterfree RNG>>56995475Eyyy nice work! I personally don't use legendaries but frankly, that kind of luck and effort warrants itAlso good job champing Dunsparce
>>56994624Altaria will get much more use out of Earthquake imoBut if you really want to absolutely skullfuck the Elite Four, give it to Gyarados. DD/Return/EQ/Rest shitstomps the E4 so hard it's actually kind of disgusting.
>>56991423RBY's low encounter variety means that, esp with Champs clause, you can guarantee yourself some absolutely disgusting encountersStarmie and Abra, for example, are essentially guaranteed
>>56994781Jigglypuff and Shellder.
>>56980163A modest Torun the Voltorb and Juliet the Doduo join the team.My bird trio pecked Erika to submission but not without losing Fern the Fearow in the process. Thinking about grabbing a Slowpoke as my water pokémon when i get access to surf. That just leaves 1 slot open for a random pokémon. Going to see what i get from Safari zone before i make my decision
>>56996451Are you gonna keep going until you win?
>>56998207>Spend ~80 minutes trying to fish up a 1% Slowpoke encounter because i'd prefer to have a psychic type for Koga>Fish up this thing instead
>>56999586And it's somehow worse in every way than the regular Krabby i already caught. Still feeling compelled to try and make her work simply because a green Kingler is kinda cool
>>56999678That's the tradeoff i guess, cool shiny but worse stats.
>caught vulpix but fire type sucks in gen 1>ninetails could add diversity to the team>nidoqueen and hypno don't need help with grass or bug typesmy brain KNOWS vulpix is a bad mon to train but my heart wants it to join the team for some reason. I won't do it though; I know it's not worth it. hitmonlee on the other hand...
>>57001770piloting a shit mon to victory is one of nuzlocke’s most gratifying aspects
>>57001770Do it. As the other anon said, piloting a shitmon to the HOF is gratifying like nothing elsePlus Ninetales is just strong enough to justify being used lategame. Unfortunately, Hitmonlee, like all gen 1 fighting types, is complete and utter dicks and not worth using at all
>>57001770You can make anything work in gen 1, so i say go for it.
>>57002397>>57002441>>57002780sorry but I already genocided the plants in erika's gym. that's where vulpix would have gotten the EXP needed to start contributing and be less of a burden... forgive me...
>>56999586>>56999678No new gyms down. Just grinding levels and hunting down some held items with thief. This will probably be the team i will tackle league with unless someone dies. Ice Beam from a Kingler is going to hit like a wet noodle so i'm hoping Grump the Snorlax will 1v1 Lance's Dragonite with Yawn, Rest and Body Slam/return/Hyper Beam/Whatever
>>57003431Snorlax should be fine as long as the level difference isn't too great.
on second thought: hitmonlee is kinda redundant. like, fighting only kills normal and rock, and rock usually folds easily to ice (because of the secondary typings).to make up for not using vulpix, I'll waste most of my money on coins and buy a pinsir. mono-bug with no fighting STAB isn't great, true, but my other 2 mons don't need EXP (lv. 37) and pinsir is cool.
>>57005078Unlike in Gen 2 and up Hitmonlee has a dogshit special stat, it’s genuinely made of paper, you made the right call.
>>57005211I mean, gen 1 is so easy that I could have easily made hitmonlee work. it's just that he doesn't have much appeal because fighting-type is so doo-doo in gen 1. pinsir isn't that much better but he has a coolness and rarity factor to him.
>>57005280I mean you can make any mon work besides shit like Weedle, it’s just that in a Nuzlocke you either want a mon that kills things before it can be killed or something that can takes hits, and Hitmonlee requires a turn to set up a Meditate if you want to sweep, and it’s frail and dies to a lot of things if they crit in the endgame, so it’s not too great of an option.
>>57005499I guess but the effort value system in gen 1 buffs pokemon way more than modern EVs, plus you get the badge boosts, PLUS the badge boost glitch (by using Meditate). gen 1 is laughably easy because everything is tilted in the player's favor lol
>>57005612It's just the mechanics you have to watch out for, like being locked into Rage or Wrap stall.
>>56995475I would hope that a legendary had a good showing against the E4. Congrats!
5 badges down in Blue, the Psychic solo is about ready to kick off, with some help from a crit-happy cat that is. Tanzania soloed Koga all on their own, almost doing the same with Erika, but with some slight help from Sixty (Grass/Poison being 4x weak against Bug in Gen 1 is a lot of fun). Now there's only Silph Co standing between us and the last three gyms, which hopefully will be smooth ride as the finale draws near
>>57010137Any plans on who to champion clause for future encounters?
>>57011364Other than the four on my team currently, I'm planning to at least pick up a Goldeen to avoid that in the future, I would've done Ditto, but then the thought of actually using Ditto in a nuzlocke gripped me, so I might try that in Gen 2 where the stakes are lower. I've already set up a 50/50 chance for a Pinsir in Gen 2 Bug Catching Contest by eliminating Venonat and Oddish (Oddish making it so that I can guarantee a Paras in Ilex Forest), and hopefully Beedrill as well if everything goes as planned. Other than that I'm not sure who to aim for as the sixth champ of Blue here, I'll probably be going over any available encounters to see if there's something I can try for (I've mostly been repelling my way through the game for now)
>>57010137>Now there's only Silph Co standing between us and the last three gyms, which hopefully will be smooth ride as the finale draws nearBarring Zam shenanigans, Tanzania and Isis should solo Sabrina, which means all you need is a Water type to beat the last two>>57011527Honeslty, in theory you could try and champ Dewgong/any of the Super Rod mons sans Starmie to save that for future runsAs long as you don't have Zam/Starmie champed, you can probably use them to emergency sweep any other Kanto run you wishAlso, if there's any mon to champ in this game, I'd champ Aerodactyl here. It kinda peaks in this game since you can just slap Bite/Hyper Beam/Fly on it and use it as an emergency fast Psychic check
>>56971613Archie is small time, once againJust our last attempt, all we needed was exactly one Swords Dance, we survive Origin Pulse with a Sash, and drop the hammer down with a max power ReversalWhat made me slightly worried was that the first two Origin Pulses missed, so I ended up getting three Swords Dances (which is super overkill) while I kept waiting to get hitAnd... that is a wrap on both teams Magma and AquaWe'll get another encounter in Cave of Origins, then Sky Pillar, then in comes Rayquaza with the steel chair, and then we're off to prepare for and fight Juan afterwards
>>57011847How much thought goes into your strategies for each battle? Do they just come to you or are they through meticulously planned?
>>57012761Quite a lotI usually just take it one Pokemon at a timeStart with the lead, see which of my Pokemon matches up well into themTry to find Pokemon that can safely switch into the opponent'sSo each of my Pokemon is there to directly deal with another, and then things get tricky when there's stuff like Focus Sash or weather and stuff that I would also have to contend with
RIP Spoony the Kadabra, I switched you into an Voltorb and got punished for it by getting crit by a self destruct. And I just taught you Psychic too… At least I still have a Hypno.
>>57011808>all you need is a Water type to beat the last twoOh ye of little faith, all Kanto gyms are now cleared thanks to Tanzania, Gen 1 Psychics really are that broken. (No image since the only details that changed are badges acquired and Tanzania's level being higher)>you could try and champ Dewgong/any of the Super RodThat might be what I end up doing, I forget if I can get Psyduck, but that might be the other one I go for beside Goldeen. Dewgong might be a smart choice since it reeeeally falls off past Gen 1, but I have a soft spot for him, so I wouldn't want to "waste" him if there's no tactical reason to do so (I don't think there are any areas in any future games where Seel stands in the way of a significantly better mon, not that I remember at least)As for Aerodactyl, I have great memories of running him in X/Y since you can get him super early there, so I'll probably end up saving him for that, unless I'm really struggling in FRLG I suppose
Off-topic but I don't want to make a thread for one question - I wanna do a gen 4 living dex (I did a gen 3 one a couple years back) but I'm not sure whether I want to do it on Platinum or HG/SS - which should I pick?
>>57013744Platinum has better UI for actually storing/moving around a living dex in the PC (i think they removed the yellow grabber hand in HGSS and the touch controls are clunky). And you can see contest statsThe downside is the Pal Park limitation needing 24 hours to transfer and having your saves take 45 seconds every time you use the PC.HGSS lets you see the following sprite for every single pokemon, enter all of them in the pokeathlon, and has no limitation Pal Park limitation like Dppt.
spent 3 hours looking specifically for a shiny growlithe on the cute charm save in a route full of mono-gendered mon that kept clogging up the encounter table after I found a normal one as my encounter and it immediately roaredcouldn't repel trick because my team was too high-leveled while my cute charmer was too low-leveledfinally found the fucking thing and its ability is wrong
>>57013887it roared anyways back to the rice fields
FINALLY caught the stupid thingMan my encounter luck has been so astronomically terrible that it's a miracle I implemented that failsafe "roar/whirlwind/etc is another roll" clause or I'd have jack shit lol. Even the stuff I'm finding and catching is no good.My Abra is fucking IMPISH and its best stat is Attack. At least I can rest easy knowing that Whitney will be a breeze despite her never giving me trouble in the first place. Attract isn't gonna do shit to BaoBao's harem and Glinda getting so stupidly overleveled is going to make things even easier.
>>57014023Whitney wasn't a problem. Apparently wild encounters were.Had to run from the Sudowoodo after it spent its first three turns nearly killing my entire team. The Stantler I found for my Route 39 encounter decided to do the same thing (except I actually caught it) and every encounter since then has just made it sting all the more lol. Also adjusted the ruleset to be more forgiving because I found that 5 encounters just isn't enough for a shiny most of the time and my encounter luck is so bad that it hasn't mattered much anyways. Grateful that I lost a third of my team right BEFORE the level curve made any possibility of grinding up new members borderline masochistic to do. If this shit happens again I'm just going to cheat in rare candies for it. The sheer amount of hours it takes to grind up just two new members in Johto should be banned under international law and the sacrifice in EVs is worth saving half a day of fighting wild encounters.
>>57014419Stantler has a great attack stat, combining that with a STAB Stomp lets it deal heavy damage.
Almost had a catastrophic end to the Blue nuzlockeTanzania dealt with Lorelei, Bruno and Agatha quick as you like, none of them even stood a chance so I went into Lance with my nose skyward, practically asking for something to happen. His Gyarados survived a Psychic, but did perhaps the dumbest thing it could by using Leer, proccing my badge boosts. "Sucker", I thought, preparing for a clean sweep. Gyarados and his two Dragonair go down no problem and in comes Aerodactyl. Marcel the Mr. Mime outsped it ezpz so I expected to do the same, understimating what an absolute sack of potatoes Hypno is. It outspeeds, uses Supersonic, and it fucking hits. Alarm bells are BLARING in the back of my head. This is it, my hubris, my endless goddamn hubris. Tanzania manages to hit through confusion and kills Aerodactyl easily, in comes Dragonite. Tanzania outspeeds...but hits itself in confusion, that and a Slam from Dragonite causing our HP to drop to about 1/3. I'm panicking, palms sweaty, I have no other choice but to sack something else on my team. I'm looking at Sixty the Beedrill with a heavy heart, but then something hits me. I'm playing Gen 1. Beedrill is a Poison type. I send out Sixty prepared to lose the little hope I had, prepared for Dragonite to mulch my poor little bee, but then...it uses Barrier. And again. And an Agility. Another Barrier. Dragonite is stuck in a loop and Sixty gets to poison it with Twineedle and slowly but surely whittle the beast down until sweet victory is ours. Your legend will be spoken of for years to come, little trooper...oh yeah and then Tanzania swept Blue ezpz, gg, on to Yellow
>>57016529Marcel returning from Red made Lance go insane. I have never seen the ai fumble that hard. Congrats!
>>57016529>hich of my Pokemon matches up well into them>Try to find Pokemon that can safely switch into the opponent's>So each of my Pokemon is there to directly deal with another, and then things get tricky when there's stuff likGrats on the win, anon! And yeah, gen 1 AI is really, really funnyI actually brought a Weezing to the E4 specifically for this Lance situation. Granted, I didn't need it because lolStarmie
>>57017897What's up with the greentext?
>>57017601Oh, sorry if that part was a little unclear, wrote that after getting home from work around midnight, meant that Marcel easily outsped the Aerodactyl in Red, thought Tanzania would do the same in Blue, but that 130 Speed really do be hittin'Thank you tho! It's a great feeling when that old game jank actually works in your favor like that, haha>>57017897Thank you! And yeah, Starmie absolutely melts the Kanto E4, it's crazy. A set of Surf/Psychic/Thunderbolt/Ice Beam hits all but TWO mons in there for super effective damage (that being the two guaranteed Psychics; Lorelei's Jynx and Blue's Alakazam, neither of which can do anything meaningful to Starmie)
>>56929818It's been a long 2 weeks w/ class & Thanksgiving, but I got all 8 Johto gym badges.Jasmine's Team:>BeedrillLute's Thunderbolt puts it in the yellow as it lands a Sweet Kiss, confusing Lute. I switch to Kanqi as Beedrill sets up Destiny Bond. I stall it for a few turns with Kanqi's Toxic before Beedrill lands a Dynamic Punch, taking off a little less than half of Kanqi's HP. I switch to Yelnats as Beedrill once more sets up Destiny Bond. Yelnats inflicts confusion on Beedrill with Confuse Ray, and Beedrill dies by his own hand due to confusion.>MeowthMeowth sets up Meditate as Yelnats' Spark attack takes off around 1/3rd of his health and paralyzes him. Another Spark attack forces a Hyper Potion from Jasmine, and Meowth goes down from 3 more Sparks (thanks to the recoil damage from Meowth's Submission.)>Butterfree3HKO'd by Yelnats' Spark.Clair's Team:>SentretOHKO'd by Kanqi's Strength.>ShellderOHKO'd by Kanqi's Thunder after 2 misses.>HitmonchanKanqi poisons it with Toxic, and kills it with 2 Strength attacks as it attacks with Outrage.>Pidgeotto2HKO'd by Kanqi's Thunder.Onto Victory Road. Probably gonna grind until my team is 40-42. I don't think the league will be much of a challenge, though I might have to shape up some movepools, namely giving Nibsey something like Strength.
>>56966249Hey all. I'm getting fairly close to Nekrozma and I'm spending a week or so training tons of mons to have a higher chance of beating the damn thing. Preferably without cheesing it.The current team are getting around Level 40-45 and getting trained to 50. The ones on the bottom are level 51-54. Everything else is <40.Any good strats I should consider? I feel Nekrozma is a Physical attacker so I'm training Stoutland with Intimidate so that he can enter, lower its Attack boost and hit it with that Priority Baby-Doll Eyes but can't think of anything else atm. May grind surfing matches later for BP items like Moves.
>>57020650forgot pic.
>>57020650Necrozma has more special moves than physical, and it'll one shot your team unless they have focus bands. Cheesing it might be the only option, there's a reason USUM is considered the hardest game to Nuzlocke.
>>57020650Dark types, if you’re allowing Z moves you can nuke it with a Black Hole Eclipse.
>>56983737Back after some time.>Vs Norman>Slaking 1Liltotto Intimidates Slaking, who hits her with Facade as she misses a Toxic. This means she has to use Toxic on the Truant turn.Slaking then Encores Liltotto as I was planning to Baton Pass out, causing another ToxicGrand Moff comes in on Truant turn.Protect stops Facade and then Psybeam and Toxic combine to get the KO.>VigorothAt first I stay in, but Slash vs Psybeam clearly shows Vigoroth having the advantage.I send Liltotto in on Facade, getting in another Intimidate.Vigoroth uses Faint Attack, Liltotto uses Hidden Power, which doesn't hit as hard as I'd like.Vigoroth scores a Faint Attack Crit, and Liltotto uses Toxic as her Oran Berry activates.I then send Gran Moff in on Encore. From there on it is a mess of Slashes, Psybeams, Moonlights and Hyper Potions as the Toxic damage rises and helps bring Vigoroth down. >Slaking 2This is the scary one, since I know it packs Focus Punch from other runs.Grand Moff Protects itself from Facade.Liltotto in on the Truant turn. Then Grand Moff back in to soak Focus Punch.Moonlight on the Truant turn.Slightly risky(but the AI shouldn't go for Focus Punch), but I switch Liltotto in on Facade. Finally gets Toxic on a Truant turn.Grand Moff back in on another Focus PunchPsybeam on Truant turn.Protect to stop Facade.Psybeam and Toxic gets the KO and wins the battle.
>>57018894I meant to quote the bit with the Lance AI but I beefed it>Thank you! And yeah, Starmie absolutely melts the Kanto E4, it's crazy. A set of Surf/Psychic/Thunderbolt/Ice Beam hits all but TWO mons in there for super effective damage (that being the two guaranteed Psychics; Lorelei's Jynx and Blue's Alakazam, neither of which can do anything meaningful to Starmie)Yeah it's absolutely insane, especially since you can basically guarantee it if you route correctlyI used it and Zam (and Aero for one Pokemon) to beat the E4 on their own.>>57020656>>57020650You might have to cheese to get out without losing anything too important. But if you really don't want to do stuff like Zoroark memery/Malamar Topsy Turvy, you could just load up Scrafty/Muk/Mimikyu/Pangoro and just try to wail it out
>>57021804Grats on the win! Honestly the stretch you're entering is probably my favorite in gen 3. You get a fair few solid encounters, a lot of items, and a MAJOR power and option spikeIn particular, this is where your Tentacruel is going to start bulldozing stuff REALLY hard
>>57022545NTA, but i've never used Tentacruel in a playthrough, which is weird since it's one of the more common encounters in the series.
>>57023382It's probably gone overlooked since by the time you get cruel, you have so many options for Water types it gets lost in the shuffleBut yeah it's a very solid, speedy special tank. It really shines in games like Emerald, where you can just grab one after Norman, evolve it, and put Surf/Ice Beam/Sludge Bomb/Giga Drain on it almost immediately and coast through the rest of the game on autopilot
>the gen1 lategame grindI’m regretting not playing this on an emulator now lol. I fucking hate using speedup but damn do I wish I could right now. I’m honestly tempted to do the MissingNo glitch to just get all the rare candies I need.
