Exploratory edition and also One Meta Is Allowed editionWhy don't we just have generals for each gen? Sometimes we wanna talk about specific or small things about a gen or game, things that don't really deserve an entirely new thread. But they could go in the gen-specific generals. Would also heavily cut down on genwar threads shitting up the catalog, whether they were deliberately originally so, or if they were genuine threads but it attracted some autist fanboy of another gen who then drags the innocent thread into genwar hell with his replies. Comfy gen-specific talk threads for those who wanna chat, even merely reminisce, about them.
>>56967291Hoennbabies are one of the least likely to jerk themselves off in a general. That's what toddies and borts love doing, but nobody else, really.Besides the fact the fanbase has little overlap and intersection. Someone who loves comfy art may not give a shit about competitive and vice versa, and each population here is too small for the meld to work.
I just finished doing 50 Emerald Battle Tower Doubles challenges in a row>retstarted from the same save state every time, so no difference in difficulty level each time>facing top tier opponent mons, no babbymons, no shitmons. 'Group 3' opponents only.W = 7 wins in a row, challenge successfulL = beaten at some point in the series of 7, challenge unsuccessfulI won 44 challenges, lost only 6.Most of the losses are clustered at the beginning, dunno why, no difference in opponent diffuculty, and no adjustment in my tactics. Just luck I suppose. Here they are in sequence. So many of the battles I won were close run things, many of those challenges were thiiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to being failures. Luck was on my side a few times. Though still I must say most of the breaks of luck were against me. 25% (in my favor) vs 75% for the opponent at best. Is the computer cheating? Or is it just that tough going up against perfect IV EV trained mons run by (sometimes) decent AI?
>>56967291I always thought about this OP but I never knew how much to limit the scope of the general. Any time you limit something you are making the thread more niche and run the risk that it dies on page 10. Even /shw/ keeps dying because of lack of interest. There is also "vp plays" that it's just like 5 people posting their playthroughs. That would be better served with a discord in my opinion but they make it work. Like you said if you have different generations it can lead to genwar but there might not be enough interest otherwise.Personally I love Gen 3 and could talk about it all day but I don't have anything in common with people playing spinoffs or romhacks so that limits my interest. My interests are limited to playing gens 1-7 so I wish there was a "Cartfag General" for anyone who wanted to discuss their progress, shiny hunts, personal challenges, and complain about cart prices. At the end of the day nothing will be possible because there is no moderation on /vp/ so people will spam how much they don't like what you like.I'm stuck playing another game right now but once I finish I can't wait to get back to gen 3 and I'll make a general even if I have to endlessly bump it myself.

What the fuck was his problem?
>>56971515Working on getting to this for the first time myself (never got Emerald as a kid)Trying to "preserve" the "original" feeling of doing it, so currently grinding out EVs and trying to keep track of them without hacking. Already basically broke on that though. Had to hack in an Eon Ticket cause I forgot I should try for Latios (though given the bugged roaming IVs and how tedious it'd be to reset for that nature, probably for the best). Then had to throw up PKhex to check its EVs after losing track during training. Then hacked in another Earthquake TM for Metagross because I also forgot to make sure to hang on to that while playing the campaign. But in general, trying to keep things "pure." Not hacking in IVs or even EVs or moves (aside from TMs). So far a reminder of how tedious this all is. Latios itself, even with how much the Eon Ticket makes resetting simpler took forever to get a decent set of IVs with the appropriate nature. Makes me wonder how necessary being even only this efficient is necessary for the Frontier.
What other regions could get away with making a thread like this?
>>56973656Frontier mons have perfect IV, their EVs are either 252/252 or 170/170/170, and they have favorable Natures for each setYou'd better have the same if you wanna stand a chance

Might as well ask more questions. For Aggron, would Brick Break and Earthquake be cool? I'll probably keep Iron Tail, not sure what else for the fourth slot.My Hariyama is stronger than Lairon right now (Lairon hasn't become Aggron yet), but I've wasted two slots for HMs (Rock Smash and Strength), I kind of want to keep Vital Throw for now, and I think I want Belly Drum.
Guys, I have my OG Emerald cartridge and still play it from time to time, but:The battery was dry before I had (re)started my latest save file so by having it swapped the time events continued normally. As of a few months ago, something bizzare has started occuring: I don't play the game very often anymore(may go months without playing) so the battery seems to have ran dry again BUT sometimes, after I soft reset some times while playing, the message stop appearing. So what does that mean?
What would you do if Poochyena was real>>56968325Might not be the exact answer you're looking for and more obtuse than a direct method, but I used Dolphin emulator + VBA link to get Celebi and Jirachi on my livedex run because I didn't have a proper GBA-GC Link Cable working, but did have a DS Flashcart to dump my Gen 3 saves.Your situation's a bit different, but there is a Wii homebrew application that allows you to dump GBA saves with the link cable, so if you use that, you should be able to get your save up on emulator and then get Jirachi/Celebi that way.https://github.com/FIX94/gba-link-cable-dumper/releases

Wow, gay as fuck. If I'd been playing a nuzlocke then Cooltrainer Jennifer's Milotic would have wiped me out. The fact that I was able to use a Revive on Gardevoir is the only thing that saved me having to pull out Torkoal so she could faint as well. Relentless fucking snek.
>>56967291>Why don't we just have generals for each gen? That would unironically stop all gen warring
>>56977547I won´t really recommend giving Earthquake to Aggron unless you know how to perform the glitch to clone items in the Battle Tower of Emerald. Aggron´s attack stat is not that amazing, so giving it non Stab attacks won´t deal as much damage as you think.
>>56978827Milotic is an amazing Pokémon. It´s even popular among the competitive Gen 3 OU scene as a defensive wall that can be rather helpful for many teams, offensive or stall oriented. The only difference between a moveset that a competitive Milotic use the most and a casual playthrought Milotic is that you don´t really need Toxic on it, but Surf and Recover are mandatory. You won´t also need Refresh in a casual playthrougt compared to competitive, so you can give it something like Ice Beam or Blizzard for coverage if you want. You can also give it Attract which is a fine move all things considered. I personally like to use Milotic with Mirror Coat which can get via egg move thanks to Corsola.
>>56979874just get geodude from granite cave and swap it out for something else laterit's pretty decent even into the midgame
>>56981267I think there are worse things, anon. There is a floor where you encounter a bunch of Wobbuffet that won´t let you escape due to their ability. In this scenario you have reduced options, yeah, you can escape them with a Fluffy Tail, but you are on a clock because you only have a limited number of those, if you are not able to get to the blue floor tile quickly, you´ll waste them. If you don´t have remaining tails, you are obligated to defeat those Wobbuffet which won´t fall with one hit and have Counter and Mirror Coat.
>>56982767It wouldn't as evident from this thread people come in and start gen-warring, even some got removed. The only thing that would stop gen-warring is moderation, i.e. never ever.
>>56983630Autism prevented me from doing that initially, though eventually I did just grab one to get me through Lavaridge. Mostly just annoyed how contrived it was to get to the desert on top of how many cool Pokemon are there (Baltoy, the fossils, Trapinch, Cacnea)

Well, to clarify, I have Hariyama and Torkoal as Fighting and Fire, but I'm not planning on grinding them at this time. I'm trying to get ready for Wallace, since I somehow skated through Tate and Liza with an Absol 9 levels lower than their Solrock and Lunatone. I'm trying to evolve a Lairon, but I don't think he can learn Brick Break until he evolves and becomes bipedal. And I haven't gotten that TM yet anyway.

>>56984745>magenton line>levitate>everI can't believe you fell for the oldest trick in the book.
Man, the temptation to just cheat in rare candies and nuggets, or flat out just manipulate the level and money values, is high with these games. We're getting to the point where the games want a bit more of the player in terms of leveling pokemon correctly but still haven't caught up to facilitating this in a more straight forward way beyond just "re-run the Elite Four forever." It's funny to see the half steps on stuff like "okay Synchronize will make encountered Pokemon match the Synchronizer's nature, but only half the time and it only works on true random encounters, not even the roaming or stationary legends." Or "Everstone works half the time but only on a female Pokemon or Ditto."Nowadays it's "sure, fuck it, they work on everything all the time. Wanna change IVs? Fucking go ahead man."
>>56986936>cheatsunironically why not? im planning om cheating in the eon ticket and all the other event bs into FR and Sapphire to soft reset those legends. i wouldnt even consider infinite TMs cheating desu thats one of the few things some later gens got right.
>>56985879Huh. I used mite/ton/zone for my entire Moon run like eight years ago. No idea how I forgot that.Well anyway I'm trying to get a Trapinch to learn Dig before it evolves, so that works.
>>56986936I'm not even grinding IV/EV stuff, and I'm already feeling annoyed with how slow it is for grinding in the main story compared to Switch games. There's a fucking 10-level jump between Winona and T&L with pretty much only Water types to kill between them.

>>56991505>Playing the same rom on mgba also works fineThe same Sapphire rom? Weird. Do the other daily events work besides the berry gifts? A problem I had was my 3DS got reset mid run and defaulted back to 2011, so it took me awhile to notice that the clock was no longer advancing, due to mGBA using the 3DS's clock to advance the RTC. I accidentally recreated the battery reset clock problem on the actual carts. It took until I checked the RTC in PKHex for me to figure out what the problem was.
>>56990970excellent rebuttalyou totally blew him (lmao) the fuck out
>>56991622I don't know, but I can grow berries
>>56992747Then it's something else weird, I guess. I've noticed sometimes I can't get a daily berry when I expect it, so perhaps I'm just losing track of what it considers days, since it only tracks time passed and not an actual turn over from today to tomorrow.
>>56994192It could be a bug with open agbbut I'm lazy to tell them about it
>>56994192I figured out what it wasThe rtc values were messed up somehowI unset flag 81 to change the clock, saved after changing itOpened the save in pkhex then reset rtc thereChanged elapsed time to 1 day so daily events work now
>>56995004Yeah, figured something got fucked in the RTC options. Which is funny, because when I went looking for my problem, there was nothing on it.
