Underwhelming plotline for all this hype it's been given desu. Somehow Amethio's debut from Episodes 1&2 was more exciting than seeing 6+ Legendaries in a single episode duking it out.
So aside from finally covering wtf happened to Lucius and Gibeon, this was actually not a bad episode. Lucius never changed despite having so much in his hands but the moment Gibeon was able to get his hands onto the Rakurium in order to know more did the situation went south.

it has been very hard to care about a story that revolves around terapagos, an ugly pokemon that isn't fun to use and has shitty lore and is from one of the worst DLCs I've ever played I'm hating this series so much man. I just want to enjoy watching Pokémon. The more they try to make it epic and serious, the duller it feels. I can only hope that kids are bored with this and that they do a much simpler, fun-focused series next. Dumping Ash was a good idea, but that does not inherently make this series good. It's usually pretty well produced, I'll give it huge props for that.

In the original plans for Rakua, Zygarde and Rayquaza were presented as kinda like protectors of Rakua, with one governing over the land, and the other over sky. The documents compare their duality to Zekrom/Reshiram. I guess they decided to scrap that and just wrote that Lucius/Gibeon caught them at some point in their lives.

I need to rewatch the episode with subs to get the full picture because of how much dialog there is, but I thought today's episode was potentially an all-timer. I wish the flashback to the OG Explorers would've been longer though. As is, we only barely got a good sense of their dynamic. It seems like Lucius was the charismatic hero, Lystal the attractive gal Friday, and Gibeon the autistic roommate, and there's a lot of potential for fun there that we just didn't get. Unfortunately, I think we couldn't get that because if Liko/Roy disappear for three episodes at a time, they think the kiddies will forget about them. Same was probably true for the former protagonist, which is why he couldn't go away for any amount of time. They have all the pieces for HZ to be a good show for a change, but structurally they just can't help getting in their own way.
