Xenoblade is unfinished not because spikes were implemented in a jank way, but because the removal of Bionis' Shoulder made a weird pacing gap in the game that even in the story is a little odd. There was a fucking epidemic of games in the early 10's where some of the DLC is literally on the disc. XY specifically is somewhere in between these two examples, as they clearly had an idea of what they wanted to do, had notes on it roughly to the level of notes for other things that made it into the final game in some form, and also had notes specifically saying to stop working on it to save it for a third version. Put simply, XY removed a segment of the game in such a way that it feels wrong without it, in other words unfinished. It's not like this is an unusual complaint either, it's true for Wind Waker as well.
