Do you remember the hype season? What do you think the legacy of these games are?
>>
as much as it pains me to say it since gen 8 is my favourite gen, I think the legacy these games will always have is "the gen where the community died."
after the dexcut was announced, the community pretty much just imploded in on itself, with it getting more and more hostile and aggressive.
>>
>>57019726
I don't want to start a genwar or shit on your opinions anon, but I quite literally have no idea how gen 8 could be anybody's favourite unless you are under 14 years of age and don't know any better.
>>
>>57019722
Version exclusive gym leaders was a stupid decision, they should have just put in all 10 and let you battle any eight.
>>
>>57019733
tsmt, I feel like everything that was unique about SWSH was improved upon in SV so there is no reason to return to this title.
>>
>>57019733
it's completely understandable, but it's honestly a mix of positive feelings surrounding when it came out (went to america with my family and my aunt), the location it's set in (born in the UK), as well as the mixture of open world and linear that felt grand. that, alongside the giant dex of absolute goobers, the setting as a whole, and the loveable characters, made it my favourite. I also think PLA perfected the open world formula for pokemon, so that's another reason on why.

..oh, and BDSP brought the underground to my switch, so that's quite nice.
>>
>>57019722
>Pokémon died 5 years ago
>>
>>57019786
NTA but that's weird because I'm from the UK BUT I do dislike the game because of that. It just feels super stereotypical and reductive and I feel like the rich history of this country really was not reflected at all. They just boiled it down to football and tea. That's it. But that's just my opinion. I'm glad you liked it though, always love to hear nice stories.

PLA I 100% agree with though, love that game to bits.
>>
>>57019796
I think the only nitpick I have is that the regional foods for SWSH & SV should of been swapped. not gonna complain, though, the currydex was glorious.
it could of been handled better, sure, but I'm just happy we were handled at all.
>>
>>57019786
Fair enough. I really didn't enjoy it that much and finished it more as a chore than something I enjoyed. I didn't like that animations were still not even up to the standards of Pokemon Stadium and the map didn't look very detailed at all. Think I just expected a lot more when GameFreak made the mainline switch to a home console... The open world sections were nice though.

I really enjoyed PLA as well, not perfect but something new and fresh. The kinda game I would've played to death as a kid during gen 3.

I did not buy BDSP out of principal, there was absolutely no reason to exclude Platinum features.
>>
>>57019722
>What do you think the legacy of these games are?
Dexit
Because it didn't make any significant strides for the series nor had a good plot that's all it's ever going to be remembered for.
>>
>>57019796
As a bong I agree.
I mean there's so much they could have done and we could have had a post game wild area in Ireland but no, they absolutely squandered the folklore and the potential for original ideas, I mean, they already abandoned the idea of Gyms in gen 7 so just go the whole hog with 8 and have each "gym" be a short doubles tournament or something with your rivals popping up as partner options or something.
>>
>>57019722
> hype season
It never existed. Since they announced he dexcut in G3, every board started hating every detail about the game. Even Reddit was basically /vp/
And then it became the highest selling Pokémon games after RB, showing GF they didn’t need to worry about how their fans reacted anymore
>>
>>57019935
E3 anon.
I know it doesn't exist any more but damn I know you aren't young enough to make that mistake.
>>
>>57019722
High quality animations
>>

>Do you remember the hype season?
For the first trailer yeah lol
> What do you think the legacy of these games are?
Being shit
>>
>>57019981
nah the legacy for being "shit" is bdsp, but even then that game's legacy is cynthia's boss fight.

>>57019954
rest in peace, E3. you will be missed.
>>
>>57020058
Both can be true at once.
>>
>>57020067
I mean, yeah, but I'm biased to gen 8, so..
>>
>>57020071
My condolences
>>

BDSP was such a nothingburger the only legacy it will ever have is convincing pokemon fans DP is shit.

>>

>Do you remember the hype season?
Honestly I remembered being pretty excited about an actual Main Series Pokémon game on a home console. And then Dexit happened and instantly killed any hype I had.
>What do you think the legacy of these games are?
The darkest age of Pokémon (which is a title shared with BDSP). The ultimate litmus test to see how much Pokémon fans will accept cuts before it gets overwhelming. Truly, a Pokémon game released in 2019.
>>
>>57020115
I never got the hype for pokemon on a home console, RPGs as a whole are a very handheld console thing to me and I don't wanna sit down at a TV to play one.
>>
>>57019796
A British region was literally begging for a tyrannical royal evil team who subjugate the local working class. Which is literally the story of this country. But Game Freak didnt have the balls to do it.
>>
>>57019935
Nah, Reddit was split. There were the half who were imbued with toxic positivity and forcing people to like it. Then the other half who acted like it was going to ruin the series and TPC would crumble immediately on release day
>>
>>57020129
It was more just leftover hype that people bought into from Nintendo marketing the Switch really, but extended to include Pokémon. A lot of Nintendo fans operate on huge "what ifs" about future games and Pokémon fans are no exception (saying this as a huge Nintendo and Pokémon fan)
>>
>>57020175
You'll take your football story and you'll like it. No societal commentary other than family trauma stories allowed.
>>
>>57020175
They need to slow down with the damn stories and just let the player explore again, they did it good like one time and it was when masuda still directed the games.
>>57020204
The switch sucks, nobody cared about graphics in pkmn until it got blown up onto a tv screen for no reason when they've always been portable games.
>>
>>57020190
people are odd, tbzona.
>>
>>57020129
All of the most popular jrpgs franchises are primarily home console. Pokemon is an outlier for staying in handhelds for so long.

>>57020204
>>57020222
As annoying as nintendotards are, the praise for the switch is not undeserved. Pretty much every nintendo IP got its definitive game in the switch.
The fact pokemon only got a phone game ad and a bunch of test builds is hilariously depressing.
>>
I still can't believe GF is fucking their own franchise beyond repair.
Don't they love Pokémon? I guess not anymore...
Pokémon is unrecognizable now, it's just not like how it used to be before Gen 8, Gen 6 and 7 weren't that good but even so they weren't THAT bad.
>>
>>57020269
yeah it is kinda ironic that everyone but pokemon got their magnum opus on this console.
I'd argue that PLA was that game, but y'know, spinoff autism.
>>
>>57020279
As much as I love the gameplay and the Akari porn, to call it the definitive pokemon game is sour grapes at best. It is a good pokemon game but it is by no means a good game, let alone anywhere near the level of quality of other switch games.
>>
>>57020340
you gotta remember I'm also the same anon with biases to gen 8, so.. yeah.
>>
>>57020271
Anon, it's literally the same game without all of the pokemon.
I can't even say less pokemon since SV has more pokemon than any other game.
>>
>>57020269
>All of the most popular jrpgs franchises are primarily home console
I mean, that's a very small group of games as it is. It's just final fantasy, DQ and persona and except for FF the rest were dippong their toes into portables until the switch happened erasing the distinction between home and portable consoles.
>The fact pokemon only got a phone game ad and a bunch of test builds is hilariously depressing.
I'd argue that even believing this is far more depressing since it means that you've only ever played pokemon.
>>
>>57021363
>thinks there are only 3 jrpg franchises
>doesn't know final fantasy has several handheld entries and spinoffs
>accuses others of only playing pokemon
The average pokemon consumer
>>
>>57021591
>popular jrpgs
Do you genuinely think games like Disgaea, Moero Chronicles, Fire Emblem and Etrian fit under the label of "popular" jrpgs?
Why am I even asking, you clearly can't read.
>>
>>57021591
>thinks that niche jrpg series are popular
>doesn't know that the majority of FF games are on home console, including spin offs
>accuses others of being the average pokemon consumer
The average GF cocksleeve
>>
>>57021363
>It's just final fantasy, DQ and persona
You know, I was going to say that KH counts but they literally only have three home console entries, 4 if you count that rythym game. Everything else is a portable game.
>>
>>57020269
Completely disagree but you're entitled to your opinion. Not to mention the concept of a "definitive game" being totally antithetical to viewing video games as art as opposed to consumables products, but it is what it is.
>>
>>57019786
>PLA
Couldn't really get into it. I found it really boring. I think pokefags only like it because they don't play anything outside of pokemon.
>>
>>57021888
I mean, you say that, but I really enjoyed PLA, and it actually reminded me a tonne of monster hunter, which is why I feel it's open world works really well.
>>
>>57019722
Other than Marnie I already forgot all of it.
>>
>>57021862
Imagine thinking modern, made by committee slop games are art
>>
>>57021929
You know you're talking about pokemon, right?
>>
>>57019722
Probably the worst non-remake games in the series, but I actually kinda like that we got Monotype starters again because they don't make many single-type Pokémon anymore
>>
>>57019722
Worst game in the series hands down. However, I think they are responsible for the immense improvements in writing quality in SV. It seems like they restructured the writing team, or at least gave them more time to actually write good characters and a sensible story. So I guess there's that.
>>
>>57019722
I remember the hype season. I remember thinking the game look interesting until I saw the tree. I'd still play it I just never got around to it because I didn't want to spend 60 bucks. I was dissapointed when Scorbunny didn't evolve in the leaked jet rabbit evolution.
>legacy
I don't know. I guess the gigantamax thing and maybe porn. It is technically the last of the mainline games to date to promote sexy girls. Also the dexcut sucked abd the Bogdanoffs being in the game was funny as fuck.
>>
>>57019722
I remember how the pokemon were still a mystery and there were debates over Corviknight being a single stage or a final stage of 3. I remember how everyone loved the starters for their strong impressionable debut and there were factions like Grookey Gang, Sobble Squad and Scorbunny Squad. All that and then Dexit and the fuckass tree dominated all discussion until release
>legacy
Probably for introducing Dexit and being yet another turning point people can point to for "ruining" pokemon, i dunno. Maybe in another 10 years the people who grew up with it will successfully repair its rep with (Chairman) rose-tinted glasses.
>>
This game wouldn't have gotten nearly as shitted on if they never announced Dexit during prerelease.

Technically most of the handheld games were remade on main console. Anyway I think most KH fans haven't played the handhelds so I'd argue it's mainly a console series

>Really great designs of new pokemon
but then you get worst starter trio, Iceguin (or whatever its name is) and Obstagoon
>Great ideas: huge hype stadions, evil team are hooligans that want to slow you down, battling with BOTH legends vs super duper evil,
but all of that is wasted because writing is shit and feels rushed. The game is too fast. The maps too small.
Even with huge area, there is barrely any exploration.

I saw your thread and told myself to come up with a "first thing you think of" phrase, and my immediate reply to myself was "mobile game sloppa". Mobile Pokemon games after Go receive the resources and time they need to accomplish the goals they plan for. The console games are denied this standard because they are just foundations for the rest of the franchise and need to exist so other projects can be released regardless of how completed they are. The first trailer for Gen 8 showed the starters and the wolves as a 3D animation because the games were and are terribly optimized. None of this matters because the Switch allowed HD Nintendo games on hardware that wasn't as cumbersome as the Wii U and the huge install base of the Switch paired with people wanting to try standard new Pokemon for the first time resulted in big sales numbers that doomed the mainline games forever.
>>
>>57019722
I remember there being a distinct lack of hype until someone got their hands on an early copy.
>>
>>57023684
>Read leaked files. Its all Nintendo and TPCI pushing GF to rush stuff
We didn't have any files confirming that. Not to mention Nintendo is always hands off with third parties letting them do what they want

Its not impossible Nintendo doesn't do that with Pokémon becaus how massive this francise is.
I think GF would be able to profit from Pokémon even more if they went multi platform, but that would be a massive backstab toward Nintendo if they did that.
>>
>>57023912
Honestly, I wonder what will happen to the Switch successor in USA when Trumps tariffs is active. Assuming they don't remove the tarriffs before Switch 2.

These games exemplified how shallow exploration in these games have gotten. It was already bad with gen 7 islands feeling like little virtual theme parks of nothing. Hisui and Area Zero were decent improvements atleast.
