The speed is obviously nice, but the only other benefits are you get 120 power stab (which most types have without requiring setup) and growth (which is just swords dance or nasty plot that requires setup). They don't get a power boost which is crucial for weather sweepers.

Most other types common strong moves are 110 or lower. You have a point about grass not getting a power boost in the sun but that’s because but most Pokémon that get abilities boosted by the Sun are grass while Fire types getting only a power boost. With Charizard being an exception because CHARIZARDWater types getting wide access to rain abilities and a boost to their STAB is an outlier that highlights how broken water is as a type
