Yeah back when Final Fantasy wasn't swirling the drain there'd be FF fans who'd say Pokemon isn't a real RPG. Largely so they could claim FF was the most popular JRPG.

Now FF is some shit action game DMC clone with a fantasy skin, and Pokemon is still the biggest RPG.

Manga and Anime are literally just Japanese comic books and cartoons. And while Pokemon always bordered between Kodomo and Shounen genres, these are still fucking genres of anime and manga. If Pokemon is not a real anime and manga then Doraemon and Shin-Chan would also not be anime and manga and ppl claiming it are outright retarded.

It's partly this, but also, Pokemon discourse online was very different to what it is now.
Back in the days before you had everyone suddenly liking Pokemon again because Go came out or the spike in interest generated by XY's very strong sales on the 3DS that desperately needed a killer app (and the series going 3D for the first time was a big thing for a lot of people) Pokemon was, in most peoples' minds, a "dying brand". Mind you, I don't know how for the life of me a dying brand has one of the most consistently successful anime and consistent 10+ Million sellers but if you tried to speak to someone who wasn't invested in the franchise about it during the DPPt days the general sentiment was "Oh god, that's still going? They should have ended it aaages ago". Many of these such people would try and write off Pokemon things as "not a REAL anime/RPG/manga" or whatever because they just didn't like and care for it, probably following it up with "It's not a REAL RPG like Final Fantasy" or "It's not a REAL anime like Naruto".
The 2000s had a lot of cliquey bullshit.
