I think pokemon games would be better off with normal RPG combat 4 moves + type advantages is just not enough to be interesting there are some limited things you can do other than just spamming attacks but most of gameplay is just using super effective moves literally every other RPG game on the market has more strategic and interesting combat and that's just sad
>>57173649There are super effective moves in other RPGs too. Problem is the difficulty
>>57173649Define "normal RPG combat," there's hundreds with different combat systems.
>>57173670>>57173678Actually, you know what? I think you guys are right. Pokemon is totally fine as is
>>57173649Say what you will about the battle system but “uninteresting” is not a legitimate criticism
>>57173649You're thinking too narrow in what RPG gameplay is. Building your team/party out of battle is also part of gameplay and is a major part of many RPGs where battle is the proving grounds for the party you've built up. Pokemon's strength likes in the versatility of it's party building mechanics. Gen 1 can be recontextualized as an RPG where you have 150 different recruitable party members that engage in 1v1 duels with your enemies. Even today it would be hard to find an RPG with 150 different characters/classes to build your party out of. Of course, that doesn't mean it wouldn't be pretty awesome to see other battle formats. 2v2 is already pretty rad, and 6v6 would likely be hilarious insane chaos.Alternatively you could check out Shin Megami Tensei which has a similar battle and party system but with a more members on the field.
>>57173693>>57173691Yeah you guys are right. How do I delete this thread?
>>57173700Don't worry about it. Its fu. To talk about gameplay mechanics.
>>57173649You should actually play romhacks with actual AI switching, Pokemon's combat can be made interesting it's just Game Freak chooses not to.
>>57173700You can't.
>>57173649>literally every other RPG game on the market has more strategic and interesting combatno they don't
>>57173649zoomer-coded post
>>57177279I know this is either bait or a dogshit opinion but have a genuine response.1v1's aren't interesting. Especially 1v1's designed for 10 year olds to beat which don't actually take advantage of the 1v1 system. Most JRPG's have tactical depth by the merit of having more than one party member active at a time, thus creating scenarios where you're meant to actually use support and defense options instead of plowing through with raw damage constantly. Most other JRPG's also don't tie a bunch of power into breeding and re-raising party members constantly, or making them fight one specific enemy for min maxed stats. Effectively all the unique depth of pokemon is fake because most players won't engage with the systems because they frankly don't need to. It doesn't matter if I have ten quadrillion possible run combinations if only a dozen types of run are actually something people actually do. Nobody gives a fuck that I have 122 EVs instead of 127 because I fought slightly different pokemon when the game is just plowing through content with a pokemon I caught before the second gym and clicking the damage button. Sure I could make a stall team but why would I bother when the systems in place punish you for doing so by draining your resources more? Pokemon is dull for actual depth and anyone who says otherwise is blind, retarded, or just baiting.
>>57177695just admit that you want big anime tiddies instead of this embarrassing ramblingyou don't know shit about game design
>>57177701Thank you for confirming it's bait anon. Have a wonderful day.
