Have people finally started to look back fondly on HMs considering the state of modern pokemon games?
>>
>>57186343
hmfags are so deluded
>>
>im going a journey where i can only depend on myself and my pokemon... what? use my own pokemon to travel? no way, fag. taxi!
Removing HMs was a mistake a broke the immersion of the game.
>>
>>57186355
Pretty much why I want it back, the alternatives gamefreak has presented are all bad.
>>
>>57186355
>broke the immersion of the game.
Yeah because using a single move to cut down a tree when my CHARIZARD could simply burn it down isn't retarded as fuck
>>
>>57186343
>Have people finally started to look back fondly on HMs
No, just DS zoomers desperate to shit on the newer games by pretending objectively shitty mechanics in their games are magically good.
>>
>>57186343
I think S/V did it best with the bike upgrades, they serve the same purpose and still didn't fully lock a ton of areas behind them in case you were autistic and wanted to keep trying to climb your way there early
>>
>>57186343
Nah they still suck
>>57186355
Retard
>>
>>57186355
The bike has existed since the very first game, retardo.
>>
>>57186358
Still better than having to call a gardening service or some shit to cut the tree for you.

Gamefreak was either too retarded to not think about it or thought we weren't smart enough to think about it
>>
>>57186375
And the taxi service was introduced after HMs were removed. Curious.

This is all made up btw

Forcing the player to choose between hidden areas and completely perfect movepools on every Pokemon is good game design.
>>
>>57186389
You're honestly surprised people on /vp/ don't play the games they cry about?

>Y-YOU JUST CAN'T YOU HAVE TO USE THIS SPECIFIC MOVE
>Why?
>BECAUSE I SAID SO
Gamefreak really thought they cooked lmao
>>
>>57186343
my halfassed idea if i were to keep the concept of hms without ditching it for something completely different would be that every pokemon has a field ability on top of their normal ability which can be like normal hms or function like previous abilities that did stuff in the overworld, this wouldnt be great because youd still have to catch certain "tropes" of pokemon like for hms but you arent wasting a moveslot at least, i assume with a system like this there wouldnt be 3 water movement related abilities required for traversal lol, but itd at least be convenient in some ways that every pokemon with claws can cut trees, every pokemon that has fins can swim, etc without ditching it for DUHHH CHAWIZOD WILL COM HELP YU or just ditching obstacles altogether
>>
>only 5 HMs in XY
>removed HMs in SM
>fucking 7 HMs in ORAS
Sure glad gamefreak already picks out my swampert movepool for me
>>
>>57186361
This. The retards who claim HMs are "immersive" are the same people who try to downplay trainer customization. They aren't actually discussing the games in good faith, they just want to bitch about anything the newer games improved because it ruins their genwar narrative.
>>
>>57186438
Why was it improved?

yanmega can fly
argument invalidated
>>

Ctrl+F Yanmega and the only result is even Bulbapedo pointing out how retarded the mechanic is in the Trivia section.

>>
>>57186343
It's not like having progression-relevant abilities tied to moves you have to teach to your pokemon (and a mostly shitty waste of moveslots you can't even unlearn normally) is any different in game effect than having the abilities unlocked over the course of the game but not take up moveslots. Both fill the same purpose but the latter doesn't force you to dedicate at least one team slot for some useless mon who's there only so you don't have to waste the moveslots of the rest of your team for shitty moves like Cut and Fly.
>>
>>57186343
I like HMs but I also like SM. What I don't like about the Switch games is unrelated to HMs, it's just a neat game mechanic. You can make a good game without HMs but having your Pokemon be used for something other than battles is satisfying.
>>
>>57186426
SM was based for introfucing ride Pokemon, only took them 20 years
>>
>>57186343
Useless trash that forced you to waste move/team slots on deadweight HM slaves? No.

Make no mistake though, modern pokemon games are still inferior. Subscription-walling pokemon transfer, "updated" cries, simplified exploration, power creep, dexcut, terrible new pokemon designs, etc. all compensate for the few welcome changes made.
>>
>>57186423
> would be that every pokemon has a field ability on top of their normal ability which can be like normal hms or function like previous abilities that did stuff in the overworld
So like what everyone and their mom has suggested?

/thread

Anyone who claims it "muh makes my connection to the team so much better" are lying faggots who had a bidoof in their team in Dppt as a tween

Let's Go has infinitely more soul with having accurate following pokemon than anything HM related ever did - that's how useless they are
>>
>>57186894
>Muh following poke
You mean something Yellow and HGSS already had decades ago?
>>
>>57186343
If they were good moves yeah but nah they all suck except surf, they also limit your team options, there are times where I wish I wasn't forced to have a water type or bird type for convenience or have to use 5 mons and a zigzagoon/bidoof
>>
>>57187009
Sorry to tell you this but you're retarded if you don't like birds.
>>
>>57187018
gen 5 has shit bird availability and shit bird designs except for 1 which is only useable at the end of the fucking game
>use flying ghost
no
>>
No, HMs being unforgettable was always dumb, and SV actually handled it really well by utilizing the riding Pokemon that you have in conjunction with it. They should bring my TMs that don't run out however, farming materials for random bullshit is just pointless and not very engaging.
>>
>>57187313
it has terrible water availability too. And Seismitoad not being able to use Waterfall is fucking retarded.
