What Pokémon game has the best story and why?
>>57190037None of them really
>>57190037I guess BW even though it’s shit
>>57190037The story in SV was miles above any other game.
>>57190037SV. Everything that led up to the battle against the AI professor was great.
>>57190079>>57190082I'd agree but there's a massive asterisk for Team Star in its entirety
>>57190037Gen 2.
>>57190085The Team Star path was easily the weakest of the three, but I appreciate that they attempted to flesh out the leaders at the academy even after their bit was done. Coupled with the DLC I'd still say SV is the strongest mainline.
>>57190091Kek
SV keeps you interested with the mystery surrounding Area Zero, paradox Pokemon, Arven's backstory and I guess Team Star's story too. The climax is more satisfying than the other games and the DLC also expands on the main story.SM gets an honorable mention with Lusamommy schizo shenanigans, and like SV's paradoxes the UBs provide a mystery aspect to the region.
>>57190096Good lore and climbing to the big climactic battle with the previous protag. It's peak.
JohtoPros: lots of exploration and optional worldbuilding, two regions to interact withCons: Team Rocket's pacing is a big clusterfuck on an otherwise enjoyable experienceUnovaPros: story structured like other JRPGs including the character interactions, enjoys imparting life lessons to the playerCons: plays it safe with the messaging, BW2 goes back to more traditional Pokemon storytelling (still has pros however)(Sun and Moon) AlolaPros: characters first and foremost in the story, but doesn't completely ignore Pokemon eitherCons: intense railroading, no cutscene skip on repeat playthroughsPros: Pokemon and human characters simultaneously important and developed during the story, no railroading of any kindCons: SV is buggy as fuck, Area Zero's first visit is incredibly padded outHonorable Mentions(Platinum) Sinnoh: More standard Pokemon story but was the beginning of GF trying more things with character interactionsHisui: Simple-ish story that focuses on characters (but mainly Volo) that can get bogged down by graphics and the gameplay loop, very different to the rest of the series(Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon) Alola: Everything I said for Alola but new side characters added. Ironically has a worse story than the originals but has better gameplay tied to itI'm very biased though. Picrel.
>answering with mainline games that have subpar stories at best>not a single mention of any of the spin-off games like PMD, Ranger, Conquest, Detective Pikachu, and Master SEXThis is beyond pathetic.
>>57190177Final pros and cons section was for Paldea, dunno how that got deleted
>>57190181>dunno how that got deletedCommon Paldean glitch.
>>57190190Heh
>>57190037Gen 1-4 then 6
>>57190091Gen 2 barely has a story and what it does have is just a rehash of gen 1.
>>57190037SV, by far
For all the many downsides Scarlet/Violet have, the one thing they actually did good was the writing. I'd argue the main cast are all-round the best written characters in the series, and going down Area Zero with them showed they can play off each other very well too. I really hope they can keep this same level of charm in the next gen games. The entire endgame segment with the professor was also done very well. I loved the three individual plotlines too because they are refreshingly low stakes compared to the usual "saving the region from evil" shit. Give me more small-scale but relatable stories like Arven trying to find a cure for his dying pet. Nemona ended up being very likable to me in her autistic battle obsession, especially when at the end you understand why she acts the way she does. I don't really get the relative dislike for Team Star, I liked that plotline as well, and it gave us Clive so I won't complain. Maybe it's the lesser of the three, sure, but it is still better than most Pokemon storytelling in previous games.
Anyone who says SV is delusional or a shill who'll change their minds the second Gen 10 is out.
gen 1 and 2 because there's no story
>>57190037Gen 1They managed to wrap up the three objectives that come up throughout your journey (your rival, becoming the Champion and defeating Team Rocket) masterfully at the very end of the game. Giovanni being the 8th and last Gym Leader, hence putting an end to both Team Rocket and the Gym challenge, and your rival being the Champion, thus beating two birds with one stone, is easily the best endgame in the franchise. And it gets extra points for all that being in the first game in the series. Sublime.((U)S(U)M and SV are also excellent in their own ways as well)
>>57190431Sun/Moon, yes, but don't pretend that USUM isn't a complete bastardization of the original plot, rewriting and ruining several characters' story arcs.
>>57190037>What Pokémon game has the best story and why?KINOsseum
>>57190423The hell are you talking about, stories are one thing the fanbase can agree is consistently below par even when games are new. If people praise a Pokemon game's story, it probably deserves the credit.
>>57190437Yeah, I debated on putting the Ultras in the conversation to begin with. So you can take them or leave them I guess...
>>57190423Why are you opening your mouth when you clearly didn't play it kek
>>57190466based department, there's been a containment breach
>>57190037Shadows of Almia
>>57190091This but unironically. I'll take subtle ludonarrative and environmental storytelling over basic saccharine melodrama anytime. But I'm not sure I prefer gen 2 or gen 1.With that said, of all the modern gens, gen 3 probably gets the third spot for me. Gen 4 is just gen 3 again, and then gen 5 is where the stories start trying too hard and, therefore, failing. But I guess out of all the proper plots, SV is probably the best executed.
>>57190037Stories are hard to compare, but as for best PLOT, this one.
>>57190037BW >>>>>>>>>>>>>> PMD >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SV/SM >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Everything else
>>57190423>Sun and Moon made worse yet again, now with excuse plots and poor resolutionThis. Where do I even begin? Arven not getting the chance to meet his parents again? Your "friends" nowhere to be found in the DLC? How Starfall Street was told? Geeta? How much a wet fart Kieran was in Indigo Disk? Indigo Disk as a whole? Mochi Mayhem?>>57190711>SV is probably the best executedYou had me until there.
>>57192133>it's bad because I said it's bad: the postThis is why 4chan is so bad now. You people literally do not have opinions
Take BW's Team Story, mixed it with Colosseum's Team Story, take Arven's story and mix it with AZ's story, then take SV's story and mix it with Lusamina's story, then take Shadows of Almia and mix it with Mystery Dungeon's story. Now combine all that into a cohesive narrative.
>>57190037red and blue for its simplicity and how it executes itstories after are either stupid in concept to begin with or fail at doing whatever good ideas they had
>>57192943>then take SV's story and mix it with Lusamina's storyUltra Sun and Ultra Moon?
>>57192943I really don’t get what you’re trying to say here.
>>57190037Pokemon snap
>>57190179This. Shit thread.
>>57190079Only the very last segment is good.
>>57190085Oh come, it's not that bad. Who doesn't love Clive?
