Is this legitimately the worst evolution method? Can you even invent a worse one? Let alone name it?
>>
Bro who the fuck would figure this out without any outside help?
There’s not even any dialogue hints at all in game

I love wild and whacky evolution methods, like trying to find how Finizen evolved made some of the best threads this board has seen in a while
>>
>>57194585
Nobody is expected to figure it out without outside help. This isn't 1998 anymore. It's 2025, 2019 for when SwSh released. It's the information age, and everyone is connected across the internet. Secrets are made to be discovered, deciphered, and shared.
>>
>>57194576
Legitimately would love if every pokemon in the next gen had a wild evolution method. It's cool to stumble upon crazy things like this and would make discussion more interesting as people accidently stumble onto evolutions. We'd share information about circumstances surrounding it and try to narrow down the exact requirements.

That's what Digimon World 1 was like back in the day. >>57194576
>>
>>57194614
If you're intended to just look it up online anyway and know the answer instantly, what's the point of having these complex evolution methods in the first place? Busywork?
>>
It's awesome and we need more. Give a couple additional hints and it's awesome

>Can you even invent a worse one?
Yes. Make it completely random. It happens whenever the game decides to.
>>
>>57195685
Kino. For extra radness make it a spliet evolution with 5 different possible forms.
>>
Galarian Farfetch'd, Goodra (with it needing to rain), Basculegion, Palafin needing online, etc.

GameFreak largely got rid of trade evolutions for even more convoluted and stupid shit.
>>
>>57195705
Goodra’s not nearly as bad as any of the others

Thats why you gotta have a lot of evolutions with a lot of wild requirements. Just real retarded Mew under the truck levels shit. There will be so much bullshit and confusion that misinformation will make up the difference. Make it so that when somebody says some stupid shit online no matter how crazy that people will believe it because of how fucked up the evolution requirments are.
>>
>>57195656
Community engagement. That's like saying what's the point of the Egyptians writing in heiroglyphics if the Rosetta Stone already exists to create a working translation.
>>
>>57195949
There is no engagement though, people just look it up on Bulbapedia
>>

Bulbapedia is the community.
>>
>>57194576
it's a bit much sure but I'll take impossibly obscure over generic evo methods any day of the week
Pokemon should be about the Pokemon, let me spend hours trying to figure out how to find a Pokemon then more hours how to catch it then even more how to evolve it, not throw ball until RNG says yes for the umpteenth time

do you just grab your inkay and spin him around??

>>
>>57196130
none of us will be active in 100 years what's the point of anything bla bla bla shut the fuck up faggot
>>

Bulbapedia is a community-driven Pokemon encyclopedia. It's not official, no TPCI or Gamefreak employee fills out its pages. It's effectively a massive, extensive Pokedex, and uncovering the information to fill it out IS the community engagement that lets others down the road just look up what they need.
>>
>>57196158
>>57196163
Great community lmao
>>
>>57194576

Nothing can beat "You need to get mon from a trade, while also wearing one specific item"
And Runerigus is cool, and better than the original mon.

Trade evos are the worst, I'll take weird bullshit that feels like Gamefreak is playing a prank on me over trade evos.

You can evolve level 99 pokemon these days by feeding them a rare candy.
>>
>>57195858
I want a regional Pawniard to be a Rook and Queen and trading the Rook and Bisharp gives you the Knight
>>
>>57195721
You don't understand. You can't just use rain dance. It specifically must be on-the-field effect, which usually is randomized and happens only on few specific maps. You need to get your Sligoo to level 49, trackback to place where it can rain, wait for rain and then level up.
Arguably it's not that bad but still it's annoying.

Dogshitree evolves into Bullshitree at level 40 while holding an Ether at night, but only if he knows quick attack, tackle, razor wind, and odor sleuth in that exact order, and if you've ever used the move deleter or relearner it automatically fails.
Note: Dogshitree evolves into Dogshitcurb at level 29, so you will need to hit B for 11 levels
>>
>>57197659
In all fairness, it's at least easy to tell what Bisharps have the Crest because they'll have Pawniards around them. It'd probably be much worse pre-Switch era.

You joke, but the friendship mechanic was so vague in GSC that I just assumed Eevee, Chansey, Golbat, and the baby mons that weren't named Tyrogue had a random chance to evolve every time they level-up and the NPC talk about your mon liking you was just artificial depth

The Pokedex entry for Gholdengo and the item description for Gimmighoul Coin both hint at what to do. Also no one wants Gholdengo.

i can tolerate odd evolution methods as long as there's some hints or clues ingame
if it's completely undocumented ingame then that's just bad game design

You beat/catch one and get a lot of coins, not hard to figure out there’s something up
>>
>>57204100
unless you plan on playing online because some jackass thought that a mon with Aegislash's typing, 87/95/91 defenses, 133 special attack, an ability that negates ALL status moves targeted at it, and a 120bp STAB move would be something completely fair and balanced to put into a game with official and unofficial competitive formats
so as it turns out, when you're trying to win a battle against another player with access to virtually everything in the sandbox, you're gonna want the most busted mons you can get access to
>>
>>57204100
>>57204116
It's not hard to figure out but it's a huge pain in the ass to actually do. If you know how to get Runerigus you can do it in no time, if you ever want a Gholdengo you have do a fucking scavenger hunt all over the entire map and even if you hit every single tower one loop probably won't be enough. Grinding move evos in PLA or grinding Pokéblocks for Feebas was less tedious than this.
It's also the ONLY way to get a Gholdengo, unlike almost every other evolved Pokémon in Paldea (even the other ones with meme evolutions like Palafin) you can't find it in Raids.
>>
>>57194576
Wurmple's evolution if either Beautifly or Dustox was good for anything past Brawly. No control absolutely sucks and would be worse if either of them were actually good. Fun fact: apart from dex number (which allows you to use both on the same competitive team), Cascoon and Silcoon themselves are 100% the same pokemon.
>>
>>57204020
I don't understand why so many people are complaining. I got mine before finishing the last gym. Does no one fucking explore or something? It's really not hard to get 999 coins.
>>
>>57204424
the coin amount you get is random picked from a pool of options, if you got one that early you probably got some lucky pulls
>>
>>57204310
>Fun fact: apart from dex number (which allows you to use both on the same competitive team)
In theory
Name ANY format where you have an actually good reason to use both, let alone either of them
