I have realised that a girl's character design and her chemistry with all the characters is more important than her personality. Two characters with the exact same personality can seem completely different than each other because of their different chemistry with the same characters.For example, would you believe that early Koharu and Rikka Takarada has the same exact moody personality? But Koharu never became as popular as Rikka because she wasn't as hot as Rikka and she had zero chemistry with Ash and Goh.What I am trying to say is that Serena's chemistry with all characters are more important than her personality and her goal. Serena's experience and character development on Hoenn should allow her to develop same personality as Lacey but it will be pointless if she still behaves like a simp around Ash. The anime has to find a way for her to develop the same closeness and chemistry that Dawn/Misty developed with Ash in a genuine way instead of superficial way.
