I only have access to the GBA games. Are they good? And most importantly: are they enough for my pokemon needs?

I wish I had a switch desu.

Firered and emerald are good, maybe look into some of the spinoffs too. Switch pokemon games are hot garbage.

yeah, Emerald and FRLG aren't necessarily the best games in the series but they're pretty much the quintessential Pokemon experience. if you don't like those games, you probably don't like Pokemon that much because they're foundational to the series.
also if you have access to the gba games, then you probably also have access to gba romhacks, which is a whole other world of games to play.

Get a 3DS and you can play gens 4-7.

FRLG is too easy to break and Emerald just doesn't challenge you much at all during the main story.

But Battle Frontier yes fulfills all your Pokemon needs.

If you are playing on emulator, you can also play gen 1 and gen 2. But if you can only play Gen 3, I'd recommend playing Ruby or Sapphire once, then stick with Emerald.
As for FRGL, pick Green Leaf (mainly because is the only game where you can get a Slowpoke).
If you want spin offs, the pinball game is a good time killer, and Mystery Dungeon Red should give you an idea about those games.

FRLG and Emerald are good. You also have Mystery Dungeon Red as well.

You aren't missing much. Aside from PLA, all pokemon games on Switch are terrible
