Are shiny pokemon "worthless" now?
>>57231450Always has been.
>>57231450I hate to break it to you but shinies were always supposed to be a cool thing you saw once or twice a playthrough and not rewards for the most turboautistic players in the franchise.
Always were, unless you actually found the thing yourself and even at that, the only "value" was any personal value you attributed to it.
>>57231450Apart from the legendary beasts that got extreme speed? Yes. Don't get me wrong, I treasure certain shinies that I've caught, but why should they be worth anything other than personal value?
>>57231539>the only "value" was any personal value you attributed to it.this, thats why genning shouldn't bother you either, yea technically you can get "legit" shinies retarded easy now but if you really only care about shinies when they're hard to get, go back and hunt in the older games.
>>57231450I find it hilarious that some people has fallen into ball autism with shinies, as that's the only way to separate themselves with the inferior casuals who captures everything with a quick ball.
>>57231458shinies are only cool when you're not going out of your way for them
>>57231450On Showdown I almost always pick the shiny colors unless they're worse than the default (e.g. Snorlax, Scizor, Flygon)
>>57231450Yes, and that’s a good thing
>>57231450>WAOW this image of my children's toy is a different color, that's means it's SOOPER DOOPER valuable!!!Grow up.
>>57231450Uh anonThey’re fucking video gamesIt’s all worthless retard
>>57231450They were always worthless. They’re just recolours gated behind low odds.
>>57231450Buy an ad.
>>57231450Yes
>>57231450Do people not collect Ribbons anymore? That's a way to personalize a shiny by showing all the achievements you earned with them.
>>57231546All of the HGSS shiny beast event moves are available on the beasts through level up/tm in Gen 9, so unless you’re committed to keeping them in the ds/3ds era games they’re just as worthless now. Extreme speed is still locked to the shiny Genesect though.
>>57231450They were valuable. At first. Now everybody can get a shiny with so much ease you could believe it's their natural colors.
>>57231450really depends on if you view them more like a skin or like a trophy.Gamefreak has clearly been catering to the skin crowd for a while now.
>>57231450the only people I've seen care about them are redditors and troons.
You're telling me my red Gyarados is worthless now?
Most shinies look like hairy monkey ass, so except for the actual cool color swaps, they're only valuable to me as a surprise thing that pops out at me. Now that they're so easy to encounter, I couldn't care less about that, so now only the very few ones I like have value.
If you only ever saw them as trophies for bragging rights rather than cool color variants, then sure.
>>57236823Dexit kinda killed off bringing your bro along to get them a collection of all the ribbons
>>57236823I'm currently tilting at a 90 degree angle because I keep getting rng cucked at like a 50 win streak in the ruby battle tower
>>57232926>shinies are only cool when you're not going out of your way for themsamethe few shinies I've had show up in random play throughs have been all the more memorable for it
>>57237506Only if you get it in HGSS
>>57231450now? always were
>>57231450shinies should be cool because of how they look and shouldn't be that hard to get. Wanting their coolness to be based only on how exceedingly rare they are is autistic
>>57231450They were always worthless and most of the time the color swap was ass compared to the base version
>>57231458>were always supposed to be a cool thing you saw once or twice a playthroughMost people would go a whole play through without finding one
>>57238798That's why they upped the odds in later gens, yeah. It's pretty easy in SV now (if you pay attention) because of overworld spawns, I got 2 in my first playthrough. I liked that.
>>57238414it wasnt about the color it was about the rarity
>>57231450i find the ones you fight hardest to get are your most memorable ones. if you are not searching weeks on end driving yourself insane to get one, it will be forgettable.
>>57239302ppl will call you autistic but the difficulty in finding them was always the intended appeal. People will say they were made to be cool color swaps but then why are most shinies weird colors or very subtle? As others in this thread have said most of them aren't as appealing as the base colors. They were supposed to be rare odd occurrences, not cosmetics to give out to people.
>>57239302>>57239355>I wasted weeks doing basically nothing a video game made for children, respect me!No.
the only trully worthless shinies are those from pla since they’re stuck in spinoffballs.
>>57239370>balltismYou're no better than "shinies should be le rare" autists
I'll never understand why my enjoyment of looking for shiny Pokemon makes people upset.
>>57231450akways has been, but now they are even more worthless than ever
>>57239366has nothing to do with bragging rights or respect it's about the self-satisfaction of catching a truly rare pokemon.
>>57231450>"I could gen this in 30 seconds and it'd be the exact same!!">"It barely even changes btw!!">"You just wasted all your time!!"That's cool bro, I'm just gonna enjoy the Pokemon I put effort into getting
>>57239392No, no one is upset at you looking for and enjoying shinies. People are annoyed at people who are elitist about it and go "If you didn't catch your shiny at full 1/8000 odds it's not a REAL shiny and GF needs to be literally beheaded for giving out shiny legendaries for free!">>57239410See above.
>>57239428>If you didn't catch your shiny at full 1/8000(sic) odds it's not a REAL shiny and GF needs to be literally beheaded for giving out shiny legendaries for free! That's a fact.
>>57231450They've always been worthless, just not in practice. People assign value to them because they've made this franchise take up space in their lives. For some it's upsetting that their time and 'assets' are rendered less valuable now because it's easier to obtain said asset, but that's just an extreme. Most individuals don't care, because it's not a signifier worth bragging about to their peers. Unless they're young of age. Just collect the shinies you like and play the games to space out when life gets uncomfortable. The only thing that matters is the personal value assigned to it.It's better for shiny pokemon to just be color swaps you like or don't like, nothing more.
>>57231450They always have been. They only hold value if you value them personality.I'm a hunter autist but the random Poocheyena or Anon I found while playing Emerald as a kid will always hold more value to me than the Celebi or whatever other legendary I spent months resetting for because the first two were a nice surprise and the other was one I was basically forcing the game to give me at some point.
>>57239449You're annoying and childish. No one cares about your pixels.
>>57239479He's being sarcastic
>>57239479Why would anybody care about my pixels?
>>57239484I hope so.>>57239490Exactly, why would you?
>>57239497I don't, you are the one bringing in a false, irrelevant, topic that was not the conversation or discussion.
>>57239517You can't agree with that statement you quoted and also claim you don't care. That's an oxymoron.
>>57239469to be clear other people getting easy shinies doesn't bother me directly, I hunt in the older games and still get exactly the same amount of satisfaction today as I did years ago.But i don't hunt in the new games because they're too easy to get, so the satisfaction in getting them isn't there for me, obviously this is correlated with more people having them now by necessity, but I stopped doing it entirely for personal satisfaction reasons.
>>57231450I’ll never forget the time I was at my friends house when the Diamond remake was out on Switch and he was showing me his boxes and all the Pokémon he had caught so far and he just happened to have caught a shiny Cresselia and didn’t even realize it. He didn’t have internet at the time to trade and he never gave much of a shit about shiny Pokémon so I know he genuinely just stumbled upon a shiny legendary and it blew my mind.
Shiny Pokemon never had any value past whether or not you want it. People gaslight themselves into thinking rolling the slots and resetting for 50000 hours to get a recolor of a starter or legendary is something that should be rewarded with status, so they're angry seeing people whip them out in GO for basically free or getting whatever shiny in whatever ball they want with SV or whatever. If you shiny hunt for fun, that's fine or whatever, but considering they're literally just recolors, there's nothing wrong with them being easier to get and anyone who claims otherwise should be made fun of.
>>57239550That's fine. Again, people don't care if you do it for your own enjoyment, just don't be elitist about it.
>>57239539It's not, that's the who point of the thread, that you can't differentiate between personal and external values is your character flaw.
I dunno man, i like and value my jumbo marked shiny Haxorus in a beast ball way more than the green Zubat i encountered in Diamond.
>>57239619Okay, then why do you care about the raised odds in newer games and that other people get giveaway shinies?
>>57239661NTA but if shinies are easier to get then it's less satisfying for me to get them, by necessity yes, my satisfaction goes down when more people have shinies, but it's only a consequence of them being easier rather than the direct reason.Tomorrow if everyone started shiny hunting in Gen 4 and getting shinies I would still enjoy it just as much, because the difficulty is there. Similarly, if no one shiny hunted in SV I'd still find it unappealing, because the lack of difficulty is still there.
>>57231450Yes. Anything pre gen 6 is easy via RNG manip (and 6/7 has ways still). 9 then turns it into a complete joke if you're willing to put in minimum effort. I even have a shiny living dex, and the only ones I'm missing are the gen 8 fossils. They're probably the only ones I'd still consider to take effort. Getting all ribbons on a pokemon is much more enjoyable.
Shiny locking killed any "value" they may have had.
>>57239714You absolutely traded something you prized for a hacked shiny my friend. The fact you pretend they had value going into Gen 5 proves it.
>>57239714they shiny lock legendaries so that they can roll them out in Pokemon Go raids.
>>57239723I'm afraid not everyone was a gullible retard like you were.
>>57239726Funny no GO raid has debuted a shiny anything first then, isn't it? Even the mythical giveaways are late to the party, Japan's gotten EVERY Mythical as shiny already. They lock them to stop kids sitting resetting in front of the legend because the pokétuber told them what to do. Lock the story legend, no point sitting resetting for the shone ergo may as well just catch the fucker and play on./
>>57239736>Japan's gotten EVERY Mythical as shiny alreadyNo they havent?
>>57239732I was 17 when shinies debuted in Gen 2 friendo. And I was too fucking wise to tell my peers I was still playing Pokémon when they were talking shop about their PS2's. Never mind there hasn't been ONE pokémon generation ever where it hasn't been fucking easy to hack, gen, connect to a third-party distro server, RNG manipulate or otherwise cheat a shiny into your game. >>57231539 And seeing as early-Gen hacks were indistinguishable from legit generated ones unless you were they type of autist to copy your save to a computer to dig in the bits, how can you be sure you weren't fished like a retard? I didn't trade, so no cunt sold me their hack.
>>57239761>how can you be sure you weren't fished like a retard?Because I didn't trade for shiny legendaries to begin with. I have no idea why you assumed that was the case.
i just got this guy a few days ago, he's not worthless is he?
>>57231450The only "value" in Shinies always was the few seconds of endorphines going brrr in my head after being surprises by sparkles and different colors. The way how new games make them progressively easier to find and completely ruin surprise factor with overworld shinies make it much worse.
Shinies went from "HOLY FUCKING SHIT I CANT BELIEVE I RAN INTO A SHINY AFTER PLAYING THIS GAME FOR 20 YEARS!!!!" to "oh i got the shiny charm, guess i'll shiny hunt for any pokemon for a couple hours..." so take that as you will.
>>57240063Sounds like a personal problem. You just grew up.
>>57240080>having a once vastly rare collectable be handed to you like candy is "growing up"Of course, it was me turning 30 that magically guided GF's hands into coding mechanics to make acquiring shinies piss easy.
>>57240098>be child>get candy>HOLY SHIT FREE CANDY I CAN'T BELIEVE IT FUCK YEAH>be adult>get candy>uuuh thanks I guess...Perfect analogy, thanks.
>>57240098kek for annoyed psyduck
>>57238798Which means it is now fixed, rather than ruined. The only thing it's ruined is it working out as a way for autists to obsessively focus for dozens of hours. And I use autism here in the literal sense
>>57240063If the pokémon playbase was mentally healthy, yes. But that's not how it worked. For most people, shinies were "HOLY FUCKING SHIT I CANT BELIEVE I RAN INTO A SHINY AFTER SPENDING A WEEK DOING A REPETITIVE CHORE 1000 TIMES WITH THE SPECIFIC INTENT OF FINDING IT"
>>57239786Where did I say "legendaries" you dumb cunt? Thanks for confirming you traded for hacked shinies as a shithead kid.
>>57231450Yes.The new rare thing is Shiny+Mark.
>>57239285wich is massively stupid (they should fix all the shit shinies)
>>57240837Because I was talking about shiny locking, stop projecting anytime.
>>57240914Again, I didn't have people to trade with, you dumbfuck child. Sorry you got ripped off as a kid but it's not my problem either.
>>57239355>ppl will call you autistic but doing this autistic thing was always the intended appeal
>>57240171>I-it's just because you grew up anon!Fed up of you Zoomers using this shitty take for everything suddenly
>nowcheating made them worthless, all GF did was cut out the middleman
>>57241369Nigga I'm 35.
