Why did they have to nerf Protean? It was the only thing that made my buddy good in battle.

>>57232529This is the real reason. Game Freak can't shill us an ugly turtle and its 19 dumb hats if anything with Protean can do what it's said to do, but better. As for Kecleon, I think Game Freak is more scared of Color Change than Protean, so they just dexit it along with Castform and Galarian Stunfisk, but I bet they would dexit Greninja and Cinderace and give Meowscarada a different hidden ability instead of nerfing Protean if they didn't have starter shilling as a feature of Indigo Disk.
Who knows, they might give it a pre-nerf version as a signature ability, changing its type at will with both its abilities is supposed to be Kecleon's whole thing. On that note, abilities having some kind of tier system would be interesting, stronger and weaker versions of all abilities would allow more freedom for balancing.
