>>57235855I kind of agree, but I think part of the fun is being forced to make the most of what you've got. You can get any pokemon with enough time and effort, in-game or real-life, ie you can buy another console. But if you want to beat the game efficiently, it makes sense to use a Kadabra or Graveler for three or four routes/dungeons, and swap them out for something better later. You don't NEED a psychic, you don't NEED a rock/ground. And if you do, you've got Starmie and Rhydon for lategame. I mean, you'll probably have Kadabra far sooner than you'll have Staryu, and same for Graveler versus Rhyhorn. A lot of people don't like training anything they won't take to the E4. But me, I always trained a Butterfree and a Nidorino up until a certain point, and swapped them for something better. It's just that, if you have a friend, then you have a different/easier path. Even so there are still reasons why you'd rather have a Rhydon over a Golem or a Starmie over an Alakazam. Zam is great and all, but in gen 1 it had no coverage. And even later on it only gets punch moves.

Honestly, over the years I've found that, even with friends that play pokemon, you never really trade with each other. 'Oh we should trade some time' and that it never happens because you're busy with other stuff, or if you meet up you're doing something other than playing video games.Also I don't know what the fuck possessed gamefreak to start making specific, one-off (at least back in the early days) items to have your pokemon hold and then you ALSO have to trade them, absolutely retarded idea. Trading and then having to trade back is so stupid man, at least with the gen 1 mons you could botu easily get the same middle evos and be done with it.
