So what is it about Pokémon that despite everything, you still follow the series and to some extent are still a fan?
>>

If I was a fan I'd hate most Pokemon
>>
>>57237212
The process of (re)playing the games and trying out new Pokémon, forming attachments, and watching them grow throughout the campaign is very satisfying.

The fiction Pokemon offers is captivating and irreplaceable by any existing alternatives. And, there are many elements which are exceptionally well-designed.

>>

I just play cool romhacks and periodically check to see if the new games seem interesting again yet. They'll get it together sooner or later.
>>
Pokemon's designs are still unmatched and the battle system being suitable for competitive separates it from other JRPGs/monster catching games.
>>
>>57237212
Started in Emerald and the last I've played was USUM. Honestly, I just really love the world and is the series I fantasize about being isekai'd the most. I just wanna travel the regions with my bromons, exploring caves and ancient ruins and other shit. I don't bother with the newer games but I still collect so many fanarts.
>>
>>57237212
Gen 9 has the best selection of new mons ever, I'd have done a 2nd playthrough instantly just to try more if the game didn't run like garbage
>>
>>57237252
you're right, everyone shut up and open the front page slot for the next jannie-sponsored coomer thread
>>
The games are vidya comfort food and I'm a merch goblin so pokemon having the sheer variety in knicknacks and plushies and what have you makes it my main consoom vice

Every mon is someone's favourite and I like that they at least commit to the little metal keychains and the sitting plushies so no matter how obscure your fave is you can get some merch of it. And every so often they have some wacky themed merch line with things outside of your average shillmon, its neat
>>
>>57237239 this (I've done so many runs of so many romhacks, several multiple times over, in an effort to raise as many unique mons as I can. I even made graphics of all the ones I used and which I have left) so also this >>57237300

>>57237261 this (not as suicidal, but definitely milking the nostalgia dry myself, escapism to a degree. Please stay strong and treat your body and mind well anon, you deserve to he happy).

>>57237326 and this (Pokemon always comes correct with the designs, always several I find incredibly cute, badass, or silly. Although I don't necessarily enjoy competitive Pokemon myself, I do enjoy playing harder hacks that challenge the years of experience I have, the gameplay has enough depth to feel rewarding to those who understand the ins and outs, and how to dismantle the obstacles in my way).

I actually genuinely enjoy the videogames. Despite all the misgivings about the most recent gens, the core gameplay loop is still quite fun to me. The battle system is genuinely fun and, even if I don't like competitive, I can appreciate all the thought and strategy that goes into it (though I'd prefer if the games focused more on the singleplayer aspects again). I've also gotten attached to the creatures, and even if there were other monster-collecting RPGs, the fact that the monsters I've gotten so attached to wouldn't be there would detract a lot from them. Pokémon has genuinely incredibly solid creature designs.
The franchise just really tickles my autism in a way that nothing else does. I love thinking about the games, discussing about them, etc. I think people are being dumb when they say that “Pokémon was never good” - have you actually played any Pokémon videogame? They all have their flaws, and I don't want to say that criticism is illegitimate (as I've also criticized the games a fair bit myself), but I think that all the genwarring discourse has brainrotted many people into thinking that no game is actually good.
>>57237239
Also, this. You can always replay your favorite games. It's genuinely quite fun to experiment with teams and choose unorthodox Pokémon for your playthrough. The games are easy enough that you can beat them with basically any Pokémon on your team. It's very fun.
I also enjoy the porn, but really I enjoy the porn because I enjoy the franchise - it's because of my emotional attachment to these creatures, that I find them attractive

Inertia
But seriously, it's the appeal of the monster design and the collection mechanic for me. If I didn't like the pokemon I'd leave. Which is why I stopped buying the games after I didn't like the pokemon in it

fanart
sometimes fanfics if I'm in the mood
music
having pokemon games on my phone is always handy, it's the perfect "I can play this muted while paying attention to something else" game

This is a pleasant thread.
We're all gonna make it, /vp/oreons.
Someday, Pokémon might be good again, and even if that day never comes, we still have the classics.
>>
>>57237212
the fanbase, the toys, the pokemon themselves, the plushies, and the enjoyment of a new game coming out all make me love the series.

I'm still here for 3 reasons
-the setting: the pokémon world is an amazing feel good one
-the monsters: I really like the designs and diversity
-the gameplay: solid and fun when not playing singles VS a vgc faggot
>>
>>57237212
there are simply no other monster collectors that capture the feel of pokemon
pokemon is a monster tamer with a sports theme going on (gyms, trainers, soccer/football in galar and racing in paldea), monster creatures are mostly based on real world animals or cultures, gameplay is simple and easily accessible (with optional competitive), the tried and trusted formula is still there (young kid sets off on an adventure, a whole region to explore, hundreds of monsters to see, challenges, saving the world from baddies, etc)
the only other monster collector that mimics this is roco kingdom (but it has a magic theme instead of sports)
the problem with pokemon is the quality
they really should stop dividing their staff into multiple teams and focus on one project at a time, that's all it will take to fix pokemon
