Do you think that the handheld (generations 1-7) mainline Pokémon games will ever be playable in any form on Switch/Switch 2?

I know most of us would like them to be but that's not the purpose of this discussion, it's moreso focused on how likely you honestly think it is that they'll ever be playable on these current consoles.

Some have said that one of the reasons why Gamefreak hasn't done this is that having the older games more easily accessible would make the modern ones look even worse by having the comparison even easier to make, and not only that but that Gamefreak thinks it would actually harm the sales of the modern games(probably true) due to people having less incentive to buy the new ones if they can just play the far more universally popular old ones. Has Gamefreak really gotten that greedy? Were the mainline generation 1 & 2 games released on the 3DS e-shop a once off never to happen again?

What do you think, anon? Do you think it will ever happen? If not, then why? If so, then when and how?

I could see them pushing it out but it's not going to be a part of Nintendo Online. They're either going to sell them separately as a port or god forbid have their own subscription service where you can play them as long as you pay

The latter option is really the worst case scenario, at least the worst case scenario that I can think of. Who knows, perhaps Gamefreak has been hard at work since the last time they put classic mainline games on the 3ds virtual shop coming up with new and innovative ways to extract as much money from their customers as humanly possible.

At least with ports you'd be able to actually own the games (as much as digital ownership is even ownership, which isn't much at all) compared to a subscription model where they could just take away your access at any point in time for any reason. At least with the 3ds ports you can still play them if you bought them, even though the 3ds e-shop is now defunct. If it was a subscription then they would now be gone forever.
