Reminder that in reality "generalist" trainers would be a big crowd of jobbers and failures who got in way over their heads.

Virtually every self-respecting, successful trainer would be a type specialist.
>>
>>57248402
It's actually a higher probability to be a Champion as a varied trainer than it is a type specialist, with certain type specialists having a lower probability to be a Gym Leader or E4 member, meaning they aren't skilled enough.
>>
>>57248402
I get you. It's like trying to learn 6 musical instruments instead of mastering 1.
>>
>>57248402
There's been 19 Champions seen throughout the series:
>Oak's grandson
>Trace
>Lance
>Red
>Steven Stone
>Wallace
>Cynthia
>Alder
>Iris
>Diantha
>Mustard
>Peony
>Nemona
>Geeta
>Kieran
>Drayton
>Sada
>Turo

Off these trainers only six are type specialists:
>Lance (Dragon)
>Steven Stone (Steel)
>Wallace (Water)
>Iris (Dragon)
>Peony (Steel)
>Drayton (Dragon)

You have a higher chance of getting further as a generalist than as a type specialist.
>>

>It's actually a higher probability to be a Champion as a varied trainer
this. highly skilled varied trainers like champions and the player characters are essentially virtuosos who rise to the top. it's harder to pull off successfully, but achieves greater results if you can.
>>
lmao ok, Bug Catcher Billy
>>
>>57248492
for every one of those champions are there are 8 gym leaders who are type specialists
>b-but gym leaders are below champions
but they're still more successful than 90% of trainers in the pokemon world, just because they're less successful than the rung above them doesn't make them not successful
>>
>>57248510
When was the last time you heard of a gym leader that WASN'T a type specialist? The only one I can think of is Oak's grandson, and he was a known generalist.
>>
>>57248510
the hierarchy goes:
top 1% of generalist trainers > skilled type specialists > the rest
there might be more skilled type specialists, but the few skilled generalist trainers rise higher.
>>
>>57248534
>but the few skilled generalist trainers rise higher.
but because there are fewer of them, being a generalist is overall worse
if someone gave me 25% chance of winning 1 million dollars vs. 50% chance of winning half a million, I'd go for the latter option every time

yeah because you suck and lack the real gambling spirit
>>
>>57248546
Generalists have a harder time synergizing their teams together, but when they do they're harder to take down than specialists. See the generalist Kieran, who defeated the specialist Drayton, and the latter could not reclaim his title no matter how much he tried so he roped the player into doing his work for him.
>>
>>57248492
Isn't Mustard still a Fighting specialist despite having a Lycanroc (iirc)?
>>57248510
You forget there's still specialist trainers, granted most aren't solely type specialists but they're specializing in specific types of Pokemon
>>
>>57248492
>Sada
>Turo
?
>>
>>57248492
Steven? His team is half-rock.
>>
>>57248569
not my point but ok go off king, you did it
>>
>>57248578
The Academy's logbook of Paldea League Champions lists their names in it. We don't know their teams because they're dead by the time the game starts. Of course that logbook also lists Penny and Arven too after the game's cleared, and Penny expressed no interest in the title while Arven was taking on gyms at his own pace, so who knows.

Thanks

>Geeta lost to an Eeveelution team
>>
>>57248601
So there really is only one school in all of Paldea and it just has... every level of education
>>
>>57248573
Mustard's full team is
>Mienshao
>Luxray
>Corviknight
>Lycanroc
>Kommo-o
>Urshifu

Half his team aren't Fighting-types, so he's a generalist.
>>
>>57248510
Gym Leaders are forced to be Type Specialists, with exception to Blue and solely because he's probably a former Champion. People like Marlon are a weird exception to the rule.

Remember Cheren was forced to be Normal and not use his actual team when he became a Gym Leader. Larry is forced to use a different team for the E4, etc. Most of them are forced into their typing by the Leagues, others are just natural type specialists (especially in earlier gens), etc.
>>
>>57248716
I mean it did cover pretty generalized Pokemon subjects.
>>
>>57248601
Penny was likely forced to take the challenge by Geeta to see her skills as a challenger and to better fix the LP system in accordance based on the challenges.
>>
>>57248411
yeah I wonder if it might have to do with the fact that beating the E4 is easier when you can have mons of different types, and that defending your title is easier when challengers can't just bring 6 mons with a type advantage and easily win
>>
>>57248402
does this mean they'll actually make a good Pokémon game?
>>
I love Pokémon
the games are way too EZ. I'd rather nuzlocke it or farm for Shinies
>>
>>57248782
I feel like if we are considering Lance as a Dragon specialist than it's only fair to consider Mustard a fighting specialist.
>>
>>57250431
I think in universe that is true, but there are also just naturally good prodigies and trainers with proper skill. Remember most trainers in the world aren't type specialists after all, they should theoretically have an advantage on a variety of people, but still lose Gym challenges and so on just because of poor decision making and skill.
>>
>>57248782
If this is your logic then Iris isn't a dragon specialist either.
>>
>>57248402
This guy being the least popular elite4 EVER is proof that no one likes barabait

Technically Lance, Steven, and Iris aren't true type specialists if the criteria is a single type.
>>
>>57251075
Because Lance is secretly a Flying specialist.
