I had a nice and quiet birthday <3

Also, this was the girl I ended up accidentally making that I was talking about in the last thread.
I very much doubt I'll be able to make her work as a /tog/ oc as she was an accidental creation and Vyce was intended to be the final character, but if I can't figure out a way to make this girl (who I have named Rozie) work, I'll probably use her for the project.

Ikaika, Koa's dad is grumbling to himself out of frame because they're going to an extended family wedding in Hau'oli where they don't even use dragon clan traditions. Na'u, Koa's mom, seems pretty happy about having a more "ordinary" wedding for once, so she got the both of them some fancy stuff.

Louis would likely go off trying to get a six part, 3+ hour per movie retelling of the Legend of Ransei, focusing on both the grand battle part and the political backstabbery that no doubt came about during it. He would, however, completely omit the Fairy type from it, because 'there are no records of it', of course.

Midge update
I'm sure Silas will like this.
The next Pokemon i'm going to have Midge catch is a Volbeat. Every three days I get to do a specific hunt to get a new bug and since I already have Midge's main team all figured out I just add a new bug to my collection.

Also, Kairos RP'rs are weird. Midge got in a Mexican stand off because the person she invited to her RV pulled a sword on a rando who was at the door. Both friend and Rando had swords drawn and pointed at each other and so Midge decided to escalate things with a grenade launcher (its her wonderlauncher/Pesterball dispenser but looks more intimidating)

>I don't know what's going on, but it ISN'T happening in my RV

She loves to rustle feathers. Her whole MO is driven by spite towards her family and she's so full of herself that she doesn't realize the implications of what she's actually trying to do. Plus, she's from the New Jersey part of Unova so...
>Have you tried writing small scenes and snippets instead of chasing word counts?
Super solid advice. As I came to an impasse with my writing, I kept comparing what little I had to previous chapters and felt demoralized in the size difference. I know what i wanted to achieve plot wise, but just couldn't get the words out for whatever reason. Once I started writing Cece into the story the ball just kept rolling, like the burnout dam had broken. Eventually I had to cut it off for fear of being too long and didn't get to everything I wanted to write about, but that's what future chapters are for.
>You really shouldn't be so shy about coming around, you know this by now.

First time posting something like this, but here's a timelapse of my design process for Cece and a look into my drawing practices- a lot of drawing something, not liking it, and hiding the layer. Going into it, I knew I wanted to give her a hairstyle similar to the Nurse Joys from the BW anime. I also had played around with designing 3 other character concepts for Ivy's rival before settling on Cece; a barista character, a self insert, and a coral restoration agent. Not sure if they'll make an appearance in the future or not.

>>57266405
>Eventually I had to cut it off for fear of being too long
Lawl. Luh-meow. So, you don't actually want to cut your writing short once you get in the writing headspace. Unless you or your subconscious have a really firm understanding of what you wanted to accomplish with a scene, deciding "this is taking too long, time to wrap it up" can actually be detrimental for the creative process. It can cause things to end too abruptly or cause the narrative flow to become stilted as you try to rein yourself in while you're actively trying to move forward. Like pressing the brakes and gas pedal at the same time, it causes unnecessary stress and makes it harder to reach your destination. Instead, write as much of the scene as you can, and then go backwards and ask yourself "is this important?" "Will this be important later?" "Does this move the scene forward meaningfully?" Trim off the excess and tighten up what remains and you'll have a much stronger final result.
>>57266468
Huh, that is fascinating to watch. I already know you're a versatile artist, but the style you use branches off in slightly different directions depending on whether you start with the head or the body.

To be fair to the rando, it's the person playing Midge's friend's fault. The rando is someone I wanted Midge to meet because they have a Hatterene and Midge feels her emotions pretty strongly even if she can't express them super well. Figured it would be fun. I guess I should have made that desire more clear, because it was the one playing the friend who drug the rando into the conversation and then pointed a sword at them.

Just weird, and now that tensions have died down I don't know what direction to take the conversation.

As for a postcard, I'll see if I can. Make an interesting one
>>
>>57266405
>Jersey
I’ve always enjoyed the less utopian aspects of Pokemon and I think the seedy sides of locations are often underdeveloped. It’s probably why my favorite EIF scene is still Chapter 3 of Gaiden 6 (although Episode 6’s climax came very close). I’ve honestly wanted to explore that more, either through potentially a new OC who deals exclusively in underground battling circuits or perhaps Alex throwing himself back into dangerous settings as a coping mechanism for being unable to adjust back to normal life after spending most of his teen years hunting down his enemies. Although, such is not the current plan, he kind of just settles into being a mostly stay at home gamer in his 20s and I don’t really feel like changing that.

Funny story, I was honestly saving this for the post-scriptum that kind of serves the function of a credits scene, but I guess it could be a nice teaser. Black Blaze’s poker game originally started in a nightclub based off of Payday 2. This was done in order to facilitate the battle that takes place afterwards without casino security getting involved. However, after some more thought, and a story that Archivist told last year about how degenerate nightclubs really are, the setting was changed to a casino because a nightclub doesn’t really sound and the explanation for as to why security doesn’t latch onto whatever happens is because there’s an unusually high amount of ticket stealers, cheaters, card counters, and drunks on that night (I’ll probably have to edit the story more to reflect that when I revise it). Other things that might draw the ire of security to obscure Alex’s activities are welcome. If I had not conceived Black Blaze so early into my time here, and I had chosen to go with a darker future for Alex, it may have taken a more “horror” angle like with Buckshot Roulette. Though it’s still going to be dark and gritty, at least for Pokemon
>>
>>57266484
Alex’s creation is an interesting date for me because I can’t really figure out when I should consider it to be. Eleven days after the creation of the first thread before this place was even called /tog/, my birthday occurred, and then eleven days after that came my discover of this place. It’s still honestly just a huge blur to me, I didn’t know that this board even existed until then and I honestly don’t know what made me get back into Pokemon, let alone making a character for it, and let alone also getting into game mechanics for it. Would you believe that his original team consisted of
>Weavile
>Dragalge
>Klinklang
>Revavroom
>Serperior
>Zapdos
A far cry from today. I didn’t originally desire to metamax his team either, I don’t remember when or why that happened. In fact, I had to dig into the archives just to remember this team. Can you believe that there was one point where I had to ask around about adding Dragapult to his team? And after all this time, I still haven’t given much details on the antagonist of his story.

Don’t feel obligated to draw me anything for my belated birthday, but if you choose to, use https://arch-img.b4k.co/vp/1733258119057.png https://arch-img.b4k.co/vp/1730067128976.png as references. But actually, don’t change the inside of the coat from gold to red. I think you’re already familiar with how he looks facially but if not ask me.

Well guys, I lost that tutoring gig that I was talking about at the start of the year. Last week, the client told me they had the flu, and asked to reschedule the following week. At the behest of my germaphobic mother I told them yesterday that I couldn’t meet this week, without explanation, because “I think you’re still contagious even after a week has passed” is not exactly a polite message. This morning, I was told that “since both of our schedules are conflicting, I think it might be best for me to explore other tutoring options.”

I’m not really upset, just kind of annoyed because I doubt that people are still contagious with the flu even after half a month has passed since they stopped showing symptoms. I’ll stop giving a shit later today because the money wasn’t really that important and I get to keep my current amount of free time in the cash’s stead. I didn’t really care about this in the first place anyways.

Dear /tog/,

I hope this postcard finds you well, I'm writing to you from the island of Pampa in the Kairos Isles, where the days seem to stretch endlessly, and the noise of life is muffled by the hum of bug types as they rustle through the plains.

Pampa is unlike anywhere else I've been and still manages to be the most "normal" place I've been. Most of the island is made up of golden farmland and rolling plains that stretch out miles upon miles, framed by a jagged mountain range that looks like it was plucked right out of a storybook. It even has a castle nestled at its roots.

I've been studying the bug Pokémon here and they are fascinatingly cooperative, just like the ones at Blueberry Academy!

After growing up in a place like Castelia city, I thought this place would feel lonely, but it doesn't. I have made quite a few friends here (they're the ones who live in the castle) They're rowdy and rambunctious and like to fight alongside their Pokémon. I figure that, with my pesterballs and wonder launcher I can give them some much needed support.

Bits is doing phenomenal and is enjoying meeting all the new bug types I keep adding to my little collection (I caught a Pinsir today). She's really flourishing out here and it makes me wish I had gotten here sooner.

I'll stop rambling now, but I wanted to share a little piece of Pampa with you. Maybe one day, we can all visit together. Until then, take care of yourselves.

Bugs and Kisses (and a little dirt under my nails)

Yeah, same. I’d probably include mentions of sex at some point my my writing cause I don’t shy away from “R rated” stuff but it would probably be like “fade to black” moments right after they begin/are about to begin or “blueball” moments where it makes you think they’re going to fuck but then they don’t because something else happens.
>>
>>57270446
>But tbfh I would be interested in seeing Archivist’s OCs on that template
It is one trait out of 7 brazillion on that page, what augmented reality is everyone else seeing that this is the part you guys are honing in on?
But yes, you're right, I don't use very many of those templates.

Yeah, at most I can plan romance subplots or tease about it, but nothing hardcore.

Actually, quick lore tidbit about Ceniza I didn’t totally just make up: when she was still going to Naranja Academy, her first boyfriend was a Team Star grunt, but they broke up once she found out. She just thought he was REALLY into riding Cyclizar. She’s in her mid 20s now and she’s had a few other relationships here and there, but she’s not exactly lucky because they end up falling apart for one reason or another. Life in Mesagoza is quick and flashy like that.

I don't really think about WHEN it will ever come into play. I kinda just keep it as a layer to the character's personality. The closed off, seemingly uber self-disciplined ice queen with tons of self control is secretly rather frisky but too sheepish and secretly too much of an awkward, clueless, autistic dork to ever act on it? How scandalous and intriguing. Some people seem to just like the idea even if their main focus isn't anything smutty at all and I'm not sure how to word that.

"Brutish!?"

"Slip of the tongue, I meant stylish."

"Oh buzz off, just why exactly did you think I'd agree to sneak you in there so you could play Don Juan."

"Because while I'm off gallivanting with the ladies you get to gallivant with foreign hotshot trainers and do musclehead stuff together."

"And why would I need to? You know I could schedule a match with literally any of our league members."

"Oh what you're not tired of the same old same old?"

"What I'm tired of is your whining."

Alto drops to his knees, hand clinging to Bibi's ankle.

"Oh c'mon just do it for me! If I can just see Skyla with my own two eyes instead of on a phone screen it won't even matter if Diantha doesn't give me her number or Elesa refuses to take a photo with me-"

"...What did you say?"

"If Skyla-"

"No, after that!"

"It won't matter if Elesa-"

"Argh, no, before!"

"...Diantha?"

Alto finds himself rolling back as Bibi kicked her leg free.

I make my sprites by frankensteining a bunch of different existing bw2 sprites together as seen in picrel. For exmaple, Ivy's a combination of the right cheerleaders chest and legs, the female swimmers head, flannery's torso and hair and upper legs, roxannes hand, and the black belts hand. Her accessories are also ripped from Rosa, the backpacker, and Alolan Ivy used the rich girls dress as a base for her sarang. I hodgepodge together the bits and pieces I like, make manual edits where necessary and give it a big ol paint job so it looks nice. I think this method is a nice way to make sprite that dont like a reskin of an existing trainer sprite while staying within the bw2 sprite art style. My art program of choice for this stuff is MS paint. God i love MS paint, you can get so much mileage out of it. I've mentioned it before, but Piskel's also a great spriting art program thats awesome for making animations, spritesheets, and saving sprites on transparent backgrounds.
Hope this helps anyone in the slightest. Next time I make a trainer sprite I can try and record a video/timelapse or something

Hard to say. It wasn't a conscious decision, at any rate. Consciously, my attention was focused on a bottle of rum and making the absolute most of MS Paint's curved line tool, and a good hourglass figure best accentuates those sweeping arcs. Subconsciously? A lot of the initial draft was shifted from Aeon Flux to Kamina by listening to the Gurren Lagann soundtrack (row row), but the subconscious mind is good for nothing if not multitasking.

At first I just wanted to draw a cute shy Fairy type trainer for some funny comic strips. But the more I thought about it the clearer it became there was comedic value in making her total failure. So far there is only that one comic page but I have tons of ideas for more. I will confess the backgrounds are completely AI generated, so I can't take credit for those.

I don't think anyone has pointed this out yet and it's surprising, but it's interesting that you've used Franco's and Phos' colors for each other's libidometers. Reads to me like the black bubbles are their base levels and the color parts are when the they're together.

I noticed it and I've been meaning to point it out. An underexplored scientific finding that's often swept under the rug is that sexual aggression is partially (but not completely) driven by attraction, hence why Franco is said to be more violent against her. Paradoxically, this attraction will also lead to his downfall.

I think it's well anticipated by both the audience and author that Franco will lose, and the reason for this is because he wants Phos more than he wants to win. In spite of this new(ly highlighted) detail, as well as the deleted beatdown scene, Franco's refusal to just fucking *end* Phos is what's allowed her to continue dismantling his scheme.

I don't know how many people on this board watch Netflix, but in Cobra Kai, there's a scene where Terry tells Kreese that Kreese is "his weakness", and moments afterwards, Kreese gets arrested on false murder charges, being told that Terry is "removing his weakness". Franco is just refusing to remove his weakness, and that's his true downfall, not his hubris, not his chewing off of more than he can swallow, but rather his love for Phos.

Love (and not just the romantic kind) IS weakness. It's an opening of your trust and your vulnerabilities and willingness for self-sacrifice to another person, and this also opens up many opportunities for them to hurt you and take advantage of you, unintentionally or not. The closer you get to anyone, the more you invite them to hurt you. All those secrets that you give to your girlfriend or your best friend or your family can be exposed by them at any time, for any reason. Do you really trust them? It seems like Franco was weak enough to let Phos live and trust that she'd forgive him for all the harm that he caused her. I guess this is why OCs like Alex are so difficult to RP and collab with, they just completely lack this weakness and their understanding that threats must be destroyed ASAP means they mostly just resolve conflict by killing people.

The best thing about having a PC is making these things more comfortable. I know I could've used my phone, but I'm accustomed to mouse and keyboard than just my fingers.
Anyway, here's my sheet. I used the Red Scarf as the symbol of his red headband.
>>
>>57275388
Bingo. Phos and Franco are each fairly average on their own, but one way or another they can't keep their hands off each other when they're together.
They're down bad for each other enough that they try to live double lives, or well, triple lives? How deep does the deception go with these two? In any case, they want each other fiercely enough that they've been hosting truce nights nearly twice a week from the start of April through the summertime to pretend to live normal lives and relieve all that stress they cause each other.
Alas, no matter how romantic the evening was, they always go back to being enemies when the sun rises. There's just too much at stake for either of them to be willing to back down from their beliefs once the post-date clarity kicks in.
>>
>>57275588
I mean I think OCs like Alex are hard to collab with is because their creators insist they're the best in the room at all times and have a pathological need to win every encounter they're in. Like the kids screaming "shield" at recess.
But hey that's just my unfounded opinion.

Don’t blame yu. Seeing behind the curtain of how these comics are made is kind of like being cursed with knowledge. I'm not really one to focus on backgrounds, but even now in this example image, all I can look at is the jaggies from the render. It's so obvious after you point it out.

>>
>>57277632
Unity, there are ways to port models but there is also plugins that were added that allow you to straight up load .obj files into the game. It is still better if it is a mod itself, but hey, if you have an .obj ready and you dont mind losing the bones, you are free to use it.
>>
>>57277690
I see. I was mainly curious.
Mainly because I'm surprised that it's unity, and their girls are allowed to have tits. Unity (mostly) render 3 bodies: young adult beach hunk male, A cup girl wit TWO pears for an ass, and chestless humanoid. And this is Epic Games' fault, the CREATORS of the engine!
Well, no the creators, but the main owners.

Sorry to break the emersion. But to be clear this isn’t the standard, most people would either fix the outlines themselves(me included) or use said pic as a canvas for their actual background design(me included also) some people can also heavily modify their backgrounds which I can’t do due to iPad limitations but i try my best unless I’m feeling lazy or uninspired that day. I also tend to make some background from scratch like the one in the OP last thread and consider the backgrounds here as quickies ment to showcase my process

It's just the nature of the business. How else could solo productions maintain schedule otherwise? In truth, artists and animators have been blending their drawing with computer science longer than most people have been alive. Look up how Dudney--I'm keeping that typo--handled the buffalo scene in the Lion King or the vines in Tarzan; it's fascinating stuff, but it dampens the fantasy for morons like me who naively thought that it was all handcrafted by some legendary pantheon of artists. Strictly speaking, it still rings true, but the methodology is different from what the layman would have imagined.

I initially conceived him as just 16, but in the story he’s 14 so that any interactions I write can happen post-time skip. I think it’s a decent solution. Plus, that way he has 5-ish years to be a Trial Captain. Koa’s just a kid, really. Ceniza’s in her mid 20s and is living an independent life in Mesagoza. As for Hemlock and Cross Rider’s actor, they’re both in their early thirties.

Takamaru is 15, if anyone remembers him. Might doodle him

Oh yeah, all got FK bones and you can switch the texture for the eyes and mouth on almost all of them.

>intended use
There's the intended use, and then there's the emergent use. There's a surprising amount of people who use any program with a character creator as a paper doll simulator.
That's basically me with Soul Calibur.
Unity is a program that any old numbskull can play around with, so there's going to be terabytes of mods that have nothing to do with the pursuit of H and everything to do with sculpting the perfect dollhouse to take pretty pictures of.

I looked up the brand and the brand went out of business years ago. It's a GOOD one too. It actually had some kind of tag still inside of it. Someone just bought a leather jacket, basically never used it, and then donated it to a thrift store. I hope this one lasts. It should, right?

I am both surprised and not surprised at all. I would think that a girl who mauled by one of the top Pokémon in Ubers wouldn't be scared of a goddamn needle but I guess I'm wrong. And somehow, she actually does seem like the type to be afraid of needles at the same time. Does she ever actually get Real Earrings?
And now that I mention it, I don't know when Alex will get his. I had the idea of him getting them when he visits Galar and goes to Spikemuth to become a Cool Kid With Earrings but he'd probably be scared of Spikemuth as a kid and as an adult he wouldn't be able to stop himself from getting annoyed at all the punks (and vice versa once they see the Watain t-shirt)
I assume Alto also does a similar bit to the nail polish one whenever he gets questioned about his earrings, right?

Also, it’s funny that you call it a “cast” when none of them really know each other. I mean, I’m going to include Cross Rider in Dragon Whisperer, but as a TV show, with an actor. There’s also probably an actual story-within-the-story of who Cross Rider actually is IN the TV show. And as it stands, Ceniza’s SUPER far away from Alola and Takamaru is in the past. Probably ancient Johto. Only Hemlock is 100% a character that is part of Koa’s cast.

Now that I think of it, I’ve realised I’ve neglected something important: POSSIBLE DRAGON WHISPERER SPOILERS
Mina actually exists in Seafolk Village and she could probably be a good guide for Koa in his efforts to actually become a Trial Captain. The thing is, I feel like he’d probably be SUPER scared of her and they’d have a very funny dynamic, but I haven’t used her yet and she’s not really in my plans. Chapter 2 is basically written in my head already, and I didn’t think about her until recently. How am I gonna juggle with that? Who knows?

>And I feel like Merumo would look up to Ayumu for his confidence and attitude
Funny you mentioning "confidence" of all traits, because Ayumu isn't all that confident actually (not to say he's insecure or anything like that), his high "Confidence" value is solely due to being able to speak in a very confident manner, in order to convince other people of things he doesn't actually know. As the profile thing shows, he's very honest, to a fault sometimes, and as long as it's not something important, he'll usually just agree to whatever other people are saying just to avoid having to debate, but very rarely (usually around halloween), he may be struck with a sudden urge to amuse himself, and tell people some "fun facts" and stories that are completely made up, but say them in a way that people would think "Damn, if he's saying it like that, it must be true", just for him to come clean the very next second to see their reaction. Pretty much like Nazonazo hakase from Gash Bell (in case you have read/watched it).

I'm not a fan of millennial forced casualness but there's worse covers out there.
The thing about the self-help industry is that it needs a supply of customers. If you actually help yourself, you don't need to give them your money anymore. If everyone actually improves themselves, the self-help industry crashes. It's why basically every self-help book sells you the same optimistic platitudes and generic advice: they don't REALLY want to help you, they want you to buy the other books they're selling. In the worse cases, they make you flat out worse, either even more depressed and helpless because you were given useless advice that you don't recognize is useless, or because they turn you into a toxic positivity faggot.
The video above showcases The Secret, one of the most famous self-help books of all time, which focuses on the Law of Attraction, the belief that thinking something good or bad will happen to you will cause it to actually happen. Let me tell you firsthand, dealing with someone who unironically believes in the Law of Attraction will turn even the feistiest go-getter into someone like me.

There actually was one guy who got fed up with the industry and decided to try and make a genuine self-help book against this gay ass "feel good mindset" that plagues the industry. I haven't read it, of course, but from reading descriptions on Amazon, he seems like he is trying to bring something different.
>>57281908
I find it difficult to believe that people "rave" about things. I'm not easy to excite and the way you describe it makes it sound like a cringy movie scene where the employee is forcing himself to listen to his boss in order to gain his favor.
>>
>>57283973
It's not just you, the template really isn't very good at conveying information. There's no frame of reference for the point values, and the different categories are just up to interpretation. It's very obviously based on the character sheets from Vampire: The Masquerade, where having no points means you're not good at something, one point means you're okay, two means you're really good at it, three means you're a paid professional, four is superhuman, and five points makes you the 1%; but without that context, how is anyone supposed to know? The moment one person doesn't know the scale, trying to follow that tabletop logic just makes your own character underpowered as hell and then it becomes an arms race.
All in all, it's only really worth using because it just covers so much ground that it can flesh out a character in just a few minutes.
>>57284289
>the employee is forcing himself to listen to his boss in order to gain his favor.
Not at all. We haven't had the opportunity to get together for lunch in a while now, so it was a pretty nice way to pass an hour. I have a lot of respect for the guy, and thankfully the feeling's mutual. A rarity in the corporate world, but I've been lucky enough to actually enjoy attending luncheons with him and the higher ups even before I made it big. Their clique is exclusive as all hell, but they've been good company to me ever since I got my foot in the door.
And honestly, I don't even remember how it happened. Life comes at you fast.

Well, like I said, it's all relative.
The best way to use that chart written as-is instead of as-intended is to simply rank them by how much your character prioritizes each trait. From neutral or unimportant to "this means everything to me."
That way even if some tryhard checked off every single box and circle, you can still say "wow, that character sure does run themselves ragged trying to squeeze all that in" instead of just rolling your eyes, savvy?

I can't believe I missed that. It's so obvious now that you said it but at the time I was doing Merumo's I wasn't thinking of any specific RPG. I interpreted it as
zero: not at all
1 point: just a little bit
2 points: just below average, not a big deal
3: average
4: the character places a lot of importance on this trait
5: almost abnormal level of interest/skill/training

>TQ: If your OC could direct a movie without budget constraints, what would it be like?

>Luke
A nature documentary/PSA/History Channel special about the beauty and wonder of the Grand Underground, how to safely excavate gems and shards and other rocks without increasing the possibility of a cave in, and a half hour section of just him talking about not trusting energy companies anymore because of Team Galactic. runtime of about two and half hours

>Midge
She would want to direct an art film about bugs that shows how cool and smart and cute and tough and beautiful they are by following a group of bugs that best resemble those contest stats and just filming them. She'd figure the bugs themselves would tell her story for her. A very "look at this, now that you've seen it, you understand" type thing. Lasts about 45 minutes

Sylvie: Specifically her and her friends and their magical girl adventures, Found footage and hard to follow at times, ends with her and her friends being sent back in time for real. Public opinion thinks the time portal was a lame and obviously fake effect and that the director hasn't been seen since because the movie went straight to DVD. She would have no idea the movie was published.

>TT: (I swear I'm gonna start drawing again, until then:) Draw your OC in formal wear

I believe I've answered this for Luke with him just wearing his ranger stuff because "eh, work is pretty formal, I gotta say my yes ma'ams and no ma'ams. 'sides, if it's good enough to earn a paycheck in it's good enough for a date."

Midge: Midge has a rose colored pantsuit and tie with a green undershirt. She could also wear any of the bug themed dresses she loves so much.

Sylvie: Depends on when time period she's in, Medieval Unova would see her in elegant ball gowns that look like the night sky. In modern Unova she'd still probably wear something like that or just parade around in her Magical Girl uniform because "subtlety is fake and I'm gorgeous."

I'm trying to avoid long-winded discussions to focus on Black Blaze, but honestly, I lose most of my motivation on the weekends, so I may as well share some small details with you guys.
I'm still thinking about how to characterize this guy. The working name is Kris, which I'm open to suggestions for the last name. The idea behind his character is that, apart from being a chuuni, he is a satirization of 2000s nu-metal/"mall goth" subculture. I don't know when this story will take place, it could be that it takes place at the peak of this subculture before/during the start of Alex’s story or it could take place in the present day which would add a humorous touch because this kind of kid went nearly extinct once the 10s rolled around (they’re making a small comeback on the internet). If he gets used back then, he might be the one who introduces Alex to gateway stuff before he makes his way to the actually heavy stuff on his own. However, this presents an issue because then he might actually be able to have a social support group, which gets in the way of his plot.
As I mentioned before, this guy eventually gives up his identity and becomes normal. While his life isn't torture, the things that go on throughout the storyline do eventually manage to finally break him. I'm not going to reveal what starts the conflict of his story because I have a "pilot episode" coming up and depending on the critical reception I will either keep him or scrap him. The working name is "Super Senior" in reference to him being 19 but still in high school.
>>57282677
I don't have any experience but unless you're hanging around people with multiple ear piercings then it probably is just bad luck. Infected earlobes aren't unheard of but they're pretty uncommon if your piercer knows what they are doing, other areas might be more susceptible. Somehow I felt like Alto would have multiple earrings but actually only Golden Boy does. I was surprised to learn that.

The whole shtick of this character is that he claims to be extreme and cool but can't actually listen to anything extreme unlike Alex, who, ironically enough, barely considers music a part of his identity despite the gigantic collection of artists he has. Pretty much pic related. I don't know if he actually will be a band kid or just someone who really likes nu-metal and gets told off for it in addition to the other things that happen to his life.
I'm still trying to figure out how to style this guy's wardrobe. Keeping the purple motif, I thought up that either underneath his cloak or as a separate outfit is a purple jacket with a black band shirt (my go-to was Mushroomhead) that's just short enough to show off a little bit of his waist like ORAS Ethan's rockstar outfit, black ripped jeans and I'm not sure what else. Earrings are a must but I'm still thinking about how they'll look like and if he'll have multiple sets. Archive is not working right now but I know that supposedly Phos's outfit combined aspects of grunge and punk and since nu-metal is an amalgamation of pretty much all "heavy music" (fucking hate that term) I might look into those as well. Suggestions for fashion and Pokemon are welcome.
This is in a small town setting, like Accumula Town or Flocessy Town, so there may also be a subplot around some bastard terrorizing the town Ken McElroy style. Who's Ken McElroy, you ask?
I do not know how much this kid will actually be involved in this side plot. Maybe the other characters (which I'll introduce in the pilot episode) will be more involved with that. After all, it might get boring without a side plot.
I might whiten his skin. The current explanation for him being tan is that he's Alolan and just moved at an early age but I might just make him Unovan and whiten his skin so he looks more attractive. Also because Unova is probably the only region that I care to research for an OC.
>>
>>57287177
>I'm still thinking about how to characterize this guy
Considering that he is the example of 2000s edge, you can make him trying to live up to his persona, and maybe relate to Alex, but after the main events literally beat his ass, his mind go "maybe I don't want a life where I suffer paranoia and power trips 24/7, I just wanted to look cool", and he goes to become a normie into goth/dark fashion. So, edgy with self awareness.

That could be one way to do it.

>Static-X is Industrial Metal
Wait what? I thought they were Power Metal. I felt charged when The Only came up in NSF1, and I always reloaded my checkpoint in True Crime:LA until I got that song versus the final boss.
>>
>>57287294
I'm mostly struggling with "how much do I want to break this guy". The current plan is that he just straight up abandons his identity to assimilate in the current world and gets a job at a gas station after he barely graduates from high school. The message here is that sometimes life just breaks you. It's a more pessimistic outlook on the typical Pokemon setting, closer to reality where you just simply can't get back up every time life kicks you down, because even in a utopian society, dreams can still fade away. Another option, which is closer to what you said, is just self-awareness and maturity, which offers a still negative but less dismal message: sometimes you need to be broken down before you mature. As >>57287285 said these kinds of people either grow into proper metalheads or stop liking metal altogether and both are viable options, but I just need to think about how much I like this guy (and how much other people like him) before I decide what happens to him, or if his story even gets written at all. Truthfully I'd like to offer up the first message but I can't predict how much this dude ends up growing on me, especially given that I really like his design.

I assume this is going to be a joke but I'm going to explain just so people don't get confused
Power metal takes elements from mostly traditional heavy metal (Black Sabbath) and speed metal (Motorhead) and sometimes has some elements of thrash metal (Metallica), combines it with operatic vocals and valiant themes to give a rousing feeling, this is where the "power" comes from. I actually do not know very much about power metal because I basically don't listen to it, but the most famous bands are Manowar, Rhapsody, and in recent years, Sabaton (this is probably the one that you've heard of)
Industrial metal is the fusion of industrial electronics (this is important, because not any metal with electronics is "industrial metal" with various subgenres of metal (mostly thrash and groove, but the subsubgenres of industrial death metal and industrial black metal have also appeared), often featuring sampling and mechanical sounds/production in the vein of early industrial music like Throbbing Gristle. The most notable acts include: 90s-onward Ministry, Godflesh, Pitchshifter, White Zombie, Nailbomb, and my personal favorites Strapping Young Lad and Fear Factory, with notable obscure bands being Red Harvest and Misery Loves Co, and the bands Prong, Kreator, and Obliveon all temporarily became industrial metal in the 90s.
Static-X isn't even necessarily bad but it's not real industrial metal, it's a more diluted and accessible version of it just as nu-metal and its various subgenres are diluted and accessible versions of metal and its various subgenres, but that's a whole different beast (the short answer is that it comes down to the composition of the riffs)
Hopefully this clears some stuff up. I also know that people mistake Mastodon for being nu-metal because one of their songs was on NFSMW (it's progressive metal, absolutely not nu-metal)
>>
>>57287404
I mean, you can have a downer ending. The only way to do it right is giving him respect at the end.
Yeah, you ended up in a gas station, but the place is nice, you have a good radio station to play tunes in there, and is the Pokémon World: You can still afford housing with a wagie budget.
He is not great, but he is doing ok, and that's alright.
>>
>>57287434
Hmmm.... I feel I'm going to need a guide on Metal, because if it sounds loud and "dark" or "dry", is "metal" for me. I never tried to categorized them beyond the "energy" they give to me.
In fact, when I read "Static-X isn't Industrial", my first question was "wait, it wasn't rock?", but then I remembered this was the old days when you put cool metal tunes in NSF before they stuck with crappy modern "rap" music.
That's why I always picked Muscle Cars in any NSF game. I want to drive a cool car with cool rock/metal songs behind me. I want to enjoy the cheese!

This OC came about as a result of three factors, the first being that I wanted to make a less serious edgelord character, I wanted to pay homage to the exceptionally cringy but still ultimately endearing era of 2000s nu-metal, and given that I already have someone who gives exceptionally rare accurate representation of extreme metal, I figured that I may as well lean into the "accessible" type of edgelord that already exists in the Pokemon universe like Gladion and Hugh which are stereotyped as listening to that kind of music. Which brings me to my next point.
>>57260094
Hasumi, I like you a lot, but I think you and others should probably learn to differentiate between safe edgy and real edgy music because you posted something that's all clean vocals. Since the subject of power metal came up, you'll probably like Galneryus, they're a Japanese power metal band (and Bibi, also check out that band, in addition to ICDD and Denkare). I think people really tend to exaggerate how much edginess is actually in average music.
>Fake/Safe Edgy
>Lyrical themes include toughness, thugishness, angst, social rejection, crime, mainstream politics, depression, brawls, society, breakups, sex, insincere Satanism and misanthropy, safe depictions of war, death, murder, nihilism, pessimism and horror, safe concept albums, and hating the music industry
>Actually Edgy
>Lyrical themes include torture, rape, suicide, self-harm, blasphemy, paganism, in-depth explorations of Satanism and occultism, political extremism, terrorism, well-developed philosophy, actually scary horror, abstract concepts, dark concept albums, the apocalypse, and morbid depictions of war, murder, death, and mental illness
