It also flipped the top-lighter-than-bottom" design that the previous two had for no reason.Regular Samurott makes it seem like the fur tufts of dewott took over the whole body, as well as progressing from bubble-like "protection" with oshawott, a more robust samurai-apprentice "skirt" with dewott, and fully fledged armor on samurott. Yours abandons this by keeping the shells to two and just adding the helmet, which looks worse and less believable for no reason, while mixing use of warm and cool colors in a way that does not mix well at all, revert claws to white, revert ear color, ruin mustache-face geometry completely, ruin light sources, make running look stupid, and make it a COMPLETELY different animal order entirely; all for what benefit exactly? To address a gripe you have that could be fixed with some better Samurott animations? A slight tweak even?

How can it even get around any better than base Samurott when base Samurott stands? You could have simply made Samurott with those proportions without changing everything else and it would have been fine. But that would be too much cognitive dissonance for you. You'd have to answer tough question like "is it a redesign if Samurott can already stand?" But you don't wanna do that. Even something like Dragonite has the argument its departure from Dratini and Dragonair was meant to throw off people and thus create mystery as to how it was obtained as it was a such a powerful mon and a staple of one of the last trainers you faced. Or something like Octillery having the excuse most of its themeing was lost in its final design. If Samurott is meant to be unexpected why is that. Yeah it still carries the theme of its pre-evos but in a completely different design direction. Oshawott's and Dewotts shells resemble clam shells, Samurott's don't resemble any kind of shell. Pre-evos have clothing type tuffs that resemble a onesie and pants. Samurott meanwhile has clothing design be hard shell to resemble a helmet and vague armor pieces while being naked everywhere else. Pre-evos are modeled off of otters first and foremost while final is explicitly modeled after a sea lion. And again the sillouette is all off not just talking about it being quad pre-evos have distinct rounded heads and features and then it gets way more sharp and angular. The biggest throughline is the use of colours but it feels like that is the main connecting factor. If Samurott had a different fur color and its shells made metalic I don't think I would recongize it in any way being connected to its pre evos or that the shells are meant to be shells.All that said OP's image looks like ass.
