Hey guys, grab bag of mental illness here. The thread has been made just a few hours early because “that one guy” tried to make a fake thread earlier this week. Credit goes to Athena (?) for the thread tasks. I’ve added the files from last thread and I’ve also added two new programs to the Mega. The first is Dreamselfy, a high quality Chinese chibi maker that unfortunately does not have a translator, so you’ll have to scroll through all of the clothing like a Caveman. The second is the Bannedstory character maker. It generates sprite characters from this MMORPG called Maplestory and has a lot of cool customization options. It will give you an entire generated sprite sheet of your character. There is also an online version that’s more user friendly.

And here's the sprite I was talking about. I tried giving Alex a white suit this time cause this was the only one I really liked, besides the "King" one that makes him look like a royal government official. This hair is a lot lighter than his normal depiction but I honestly can't be bothered to change every single one of the hundreds of sprites that the website churned out for me. Let me know if you need any help using the Maplesim website, it's more user friendly than the file that I put in there and I haven't tried using the file version yet.

First 9 are the Gym Leaders of their respective region, Fairy, Dark, Flying, double battle with the Rock-type twins, Bug, Ghost, Electric, and Psychic. The next one is the Poison-type Elite Four member, and the one after that is the Fighting-type one. The last one is also a Gym Leader, my game is kinda like SwSh where the leaders differ between versions except it's all of them, so she's the Ground-type Gym Leader who'd replace the Dark-type one. That's the basic gist of it, let me know if you wanna know about their personalities or backstories or anything like that.

Since we have reached Page 10 twice in two days, I think that we are just now coasting until October when PLZA releases. Since everyone will be using /vp/ more often the people coming back to post about the game should probably also come back to visit here again. i've never used these threads before despite having a pretty fleshed out group of OCs for many years now -- how do you guys choose outfits?

Well, I usually like my characters to be simple.
Sure, an accessory or two can help them glow up their personalities, but I usually focus on two things: utility, and fashion.
Utility is basically how can I pinpoint my character by keeping it as basic as possible. Shirt, pants and shoes. With a secure base, everything will fall into place.
As for fashion, I would call this "how 'anime' I want him to look". Open button shirts around the collar, gravity-defying haircuts, physically-absurd accessories. Those extras help them shine more than they already do.

As for inspiration, read a good book in some setting, your head will do the rest. Or snatch your mom's fashion mag and check it around. Maybe play videogames and go "maybe that would work if I spin it differently."

As for me, I'd say "ask Ruka/Bibi anon". Those dudes have literally dolly OCs, and they always look fabulous.
Maybe ask Alex if you want something more into Metal, and maybe Gene since he always plays around with Koikatsu, which is basically anime Barbie for adults.

I go with something simple that either is related to how I want them to come off, or their backstory.

Louis, for example, literally comes from a tailor family. He could go full custom made, but his 'starting outfit' is a pair of durable pants, a purple tee, and a cyan shirt layered over that, just hanging open. He's got a Zubat serving the narrative role of starter, so that combination of colors makes sense.

His first rival is supposed to come off as kind of a loser, an oddball, someone who doesn't quite fit, etc. So he's got cargo pants, a band shirt from another region, and a yellow jacket and ball cap.

A second 'Rival' I have planned won't fill in the magenta slot quite yet, but she will be wearing clothes that were more in-style in the 90s, with red and white as the main colors.

In the Pokemon world it's generally accepted that your Pokemon/Pokeballs are registered to your Trainer ID. This allows you to transfer Pokemon into and out of Boxes. But what do evil teams like to do a lot? Steal Pokemon.
Now, if you live in the US and have ever called the cops to report something, you'll know that they get your location worryingly fast using your phone's GPS. I was thinking, what if this technology could be applied to Pokeballs? As soon as you report your Pokemon stolen, you give the cops your trainer ID, and they track them down using geolocation data from the Pokeball. Your Pokeball basically becomes an Airtag and it will be easy to recover because the criminals have nowhere to hide, they either abandon the Pokeball or transfer it to an empty one.
What if this were taken further? Imagine owning a gun that logged when, where, and how much you shot it, and also registered the fingerprint of anyone who touched it. Murder would be impossible to get away with (even using gloves wouldn't work, because the fingerprint data would not add up). What if Pokemon were biometrically tagged so that even transferring them to another Pokeball didn't work to steal them from their original owner?
The flip side of this is that it raises massive privacy concerns. You’ve basically got a tracking device on you at all times. Perhaps Poke-VPNs will be made to mask the location of your Pokeballs as a plugin. Maybe untraceable (and legal or not) Pokeballs will arise for the privacy minded. Maybe chips and biometric data can be hacked and disabled or rerouted. It’s a never ending dystopian technological arms race that only encroaches on civilian privacy. Of course, all of this implies that any party involved is competent enough to track or bypass location data.
Then it hits you that you already carry a tracking device with you, and that you can put a chip in your dog to know its location.

I always thought this was a given, since every kid who wants to be a trainer has to:

I feel the moment you give the nurses your Pokémon to heal, or pay anything in a Mart, your ID tracker activates, so any ball you buy is automatically added to your ID, so like you said: you already have a tracker on you.
Also, pokémon robbery would be tricky. If you capture a Pokémon that isn't yours, the ID won't match, so you are already on the map. But then equipment like Snag Machines or ID removers can delete and replace trainer IDs that belong to certain trainers. That's why Team Rocket steal pokémon with nets or complicated machinery. If they steal the balls, they will be tracked. That's probably why James and Jessie stole the Pokémon League van in one old episode. It's probably tagged as League equipment rather than a civvie van, so the balls "technically" are in an appropriate vehicle. Safe robbery.
I remember when I had a similar idea to a fake system where illegal trainers could transport their teams, at risk of completely losing them at any moment's notice if they are distracted or defenseless.

Considering the Pokemon world seems far more utopian than ours, even if there's still plenty of conflict, I don't think that so many people would be concerned about their governments using mass surveillance systems against them. If the police are willing to help trainers track their stolen Pokemon, then why not let them? At worst, they may be incompetent against the various terrorists organizations running around the place, but I don't recall a single case of Pokepolice abusing its authority.

For the first part, I'm going with people just needing to register as a trainer somehow, be it through schooling, a local Pokemon Professor, or even a form they can fill out at a Pokemon Center. They get their TID, and can link their captures to either their hometown Pokemon center or a stable, which can be run by a Professor or a private company.

The vast majority of Pokeballs are registered and can theoretically be GotP'd, and there are some restrictions on trading in larger quantities, just to make sure ecologies aren't being messed up or 'mon aren't being smuggled. It's stuff like literally handmade balls, or jailbroken ones that aren't linked that won't get your captures tracked, and those are all fundamentally weaker than the commonly used ones.

That's why smugglers and hunters typically use nets and other capturing methods if they don't have access to a snag machine. Dragging a captured 'mon to the customer already weakened is going to let the transaction go through smoothly, rather than let the operation get compromised by being looked at for the trading restrictions.

Given I plan to have Shadow pokemon show up in Louis' story, and one of the planned characters does exclusively use apricorn balls, I'll save some of the rambling for when I get to it. Breaking a pokeball de-registers it, though, allowing for whatever's in it to be caught again.

You don't know the half of it. We're returning from a week-long break resulting from a week of inactivity from last thread. I was honestly considering asking people if we should just pack it up at the end of this thread if things didn't pick up. I'm quite surprised by the turnaround but I think that things should be picking up as Louis and Luke are both supposed to drop their next chapters.

Good stuff. I can easily see myself in Merry's place within a decade, except without the crashout part because I got mindbroken much earlier on than her so I just wither away instead. Honestly, I was expecting her to crash out later on in the storyline but I can see why you set things up this way.
I'll proofread everything later but while reading it I did notice a few things about the document itself, so I have a couple of suggestions about formatting.
Firstly, I noticed that your spacing is inconsistent, sometimes paragraphs have space between them and sometimes they don't. I personally recommend putting line breaks in between each paragraph, but that's mostly just because everyone else so far has done so. In addition, you also seem to have really big spaces between the asterisk spacers. You might want to decrease it to a single space or none at all.
We used to have someone here who always put a bunch of images and raw links into their writing and it had a habit of disrupting his mediocre writing. I suggest using hyperlinks instead, and for background music in particular, 8 point font for the title and (when there are) lyrics. I personally recommend hyperlinking images whenever you are giving visual descriptions of things, so that they align with the flow of the writing. This way, you can provide visual references to your audience without obstructing the reader. I also recommend you add centered page numbers in the footer and the series title in the header

To be honest, the pacing is deliberate. Small spaces signal breaks in the scene, letting characters have some breathing room between one action and the next, while the larger spaces (the asterisks) signal a transition between scenes.
Then again, I think in terms of a movie or other visual media then translate that to words, so maybe it only makes sense to myself.
As for the other tips, I admit I didn't consider them because this is hardly a formal document, but I'll keep them in mind for the next chapter to make things look cleaner. Thanks for the feedback.

No images because I can't draw nor am I *that* serious unless pushed into it, but this is the concept of a trainer I had in mind.

Her name is never revealed, but people call her "the jester girl" and she is the 1st Gym leader of the [DATA EXPUNGED] region. Her personality is goofy and gets excited whenever she is defeated, but she gets sad when she wins. After beating her, the player can try befriending her alongside all other gym leaders of the region. Her gym looks normal, until you go inside and see that it is basically a party. Lots of food and music, and her trainers are all just chilling.

In the [DATA EXPUNGED] region, Pokémon disobey trainers if they don't have medals. With no medals, people can only have level 10 max, and each level after that will increase the chances of them disobeying (like traded Pokemons would).

Her gym "strategy", if you can call it that, is to use the weakest Pokémon imaginable and the most counter-intuitive methods. Her main Pokémon are Unown as a sweeper (she has plenty of Unowns, and uses one that would beat your starter, teaching you to not rely on one Pokémon), a 'tanky' Castform or Luvdisc, to teach you that not all opponents are dealt with in one hit, and her ace is a Happiny or Mime Jr. that Flings stones and can two-shot almost every option they have available, teaching the user to switch Pokémon, and to have plenty to deal with challenges. Depending on the difficulty the player chose to begin the game with, her team might be even more difficult.

Eventually the user learns that she was the region's champion. She is unhappy in the final battle. Dressed as a salarywoman. She tells the player that Pokémon battles are no longer fun when you know how they work, and it's impossible to lose unless you impose restrictions on yourself. So she tries to make the early-game as fun as it can be, and ensure the other trainers crush people before they can succeed. She tells the player that Pokémon is more fun if not taken seriously.

That is true. I am under the assumption that the [DATA EXPUNGED] region would have a somewhat large fauna, though.
Her as a third leader would also work, but my original idea was making the second gym a trainer that forces the player to switch Pokémon over and over, and making the third trainer a "tank" status inflicter.
According to damage calculations, most of her Pokémon (even Phione) cannot really knock away anything except the starter (accounting for 0 IVs and low natures) With only her ace requiring constant sacrifices.
The user also can get a free Poochyena. Its bite can two-shot Unown, it resists draining kiss and can use that as howl setting, and it can even resist fling.
Likewise, Sentret, Pidgey and Rattata can all pitch in as 'sacrifices' to deal with the ace.
The battle is slightly harder if you have a grass starter or grass wild-mons though, because Luvdisc/Phione have peck... But using hidden powers would do far too much damage, even with their special attack lowering natures.
Maybe the fling Pokémon could become Phione instead, and she has two Pokémon? But there isn't much imagination to be had there.

It's "him" for starters. Brendan is a joke character created in the Edgyverses, along with Hasumi, Anna, and the first versions of Tweny.

His joke is that he is innocence personified. He fights the evil leaders of very dangerous regions (AKA: the "normal" OC leaders of every edgy region ever made) alongside a team of nicemons.
He isn't a threat per se, but his team is the real danger. More appropiately, his Breloom.
He was made as the classic "10 year old who counters the leader of the terrible organization" trope. He is a nice boy. I must have his bio back at my home. I'll post it later.

Depends on the league, I'd imagine. Civilized ones probably just have the badges registered to the trainer's profile, so they don't need the physical ones anymore as much as having them as a keepsake.

I usually use anime rules: sure, you can do the classic 8 gym circuit, BUT there are other ways to reach League qualification.
You have minor leagues that, sure, they aren't as important as the main 8, but if you overcome them, you can (technically) be accepted as a challenger.
Another way is Pokéschool. If you learn enough, and take the right test, you get a special badge to be accepted as a challenger. But you also must demonstrate you team is strong enough to take on the League.

As for con badges and fake IDs, I feel the League has a database of every registered trainer. If your ID doesn't pop up, you can't take the League challenge.

Phoneposting has become impossible for me now because for some reason I keep getting errors loading the captcha even when I have Wifi or my adblocker off. Don't know why, either. Time flies, I didn't even notice that I've disappeared for like a week and embarrassingly, nobody has asked about me, either. I'm dealing with something right now, and will be back next thread. Well, almost everyone is still here, it's just that almost everyone is also less active now, and that in turn revealed just how little activity the low-activity posters actually had. Worse still is that those people completely include but are not limited to all of our best artists. It is what it is. As I said previously, we are kind of just coasting until October when people will be visiting the board more, and will thus be likelier to visit the thread. And from there, we will see if we continue or not, based on whether the thread gets continually buried or not (unless we hibernate instead, but even then, that would just delay talks about whether or not we want to continue). I do wonder where the fuck Quartz is, though.

I think the board sped up for a few days because of the Victreebel reveal and Meganium leak, but it doesn't seem faster right now. It might speed up on Thursday if Mega Hawlucha gets revealed.

I'm getting to the point where I'm considering just posting what I've got for Louis' fic to Ao3 and feeding on the replies myself, dess. I had wanted to at least get to the first 'gym' equivalent before doing it, but life and a lack of writing power has gotten in the way. I've gotten the first (1st) rival encounter, and halfway through the first capture, so I know I've got the outline, but I wanted to get to the first (2nd) rival encounter before posting so I'd have a nice backlog.

A preview of my crazy Pokémon tabletop with Gabriel.
We jumped into a time portal so we could visit and relive the past. An unknown amount of time in the past, we find out that Gabriel is actually a Espurr named Sera. She is the daughter of X, a second Xernies who forgot he was a god and settled down in the Pokemon Village. Sera got kiddnaped and taken to what looks like "The World that Never Was" and ran into the real Gabriel. I am currently being assaulted by hooded niggas

He met Enide (Hex's name) at Kalos, and followed her to Alola, but when he was going to make a move, he got scared. What was his solution? "Maybe if I get a bit drunk, my inhibitions won'tbother me much.
While strong, he is a lightweight drinker. He woke up next to an Aether Employee next day. She used Ghost mons, so he thought Enide was only a girl he had to met, so he could meet the Aether girl. This was wrong.
Events later, he quits the Alola Trial, leaves the Aether girl, helps a couple save Alola from an underwater siren the size of a Leviathan, and tells Enide the truth. After that he goes to Galar as a Gym Leader Trainer for the next Crown Championship. At least he manages to make up with Enide here, but A LOT of things had to happen before he could say "I miss you."

Let's see. Quartz is 11, so yeah, he is a virgin. Gabriel stopped being a virgin a few weeks ago after having sex with his girlfriend. Eifnr is 15 but has a girlfriend, but they have not fucked yet. Darius has a daughter, so he can't be counted as a virgin

Thank you. Pokémon Z is the name of the campaign. The GM is a cool dude, but he has shoved everything he likes into it. We sometimes refer to the campaign as "PokéSona Replicant 14" as a joke, due to the game's state. He is dedicated, though, having made custom art for every NPC, map, PC, and their redesigns, their Pokémon, etc. Production value is amazing for one guy.

Finished these two sprites. I've been playing Masters a lot lately, so I was like: "let's do sygna suits for Blankface".

Neither of them are gonna show up in the written part of his story, they're just for show and what if scenarios. I *might* implement the vine mask from the Roserade suit for something though, since that 'mon is already part of his regular team.
