When I first played EoS 16 fucking years ago with Shinx/Vulpix, I got absolutely shit on during the grand master of all things bad fight. Those god damn diggers magnitude'd me out of a dozen reviver seeds before I finally scrapped out a sad victory.

I'm at the part of Super where I'm heading to Lively Town, so I'll share some thoughts on the game so far.

It's been fun. The village characters are generally written well, though they're sometimes one-note. The partner is obviously the standout, and she's grown on me despite initial misgivings due to her hyper and quirky personality. She's pretty cute. Also, I was surprised by the number of opportunities to bully or mess with her (people always gush over how RT lets you mess with the partner, but I'm pretty sure you can only do that 2-3 times, while Super has a lot more chances for it). Ampharos, while stylish, is kind of annoying with his pointless lie about his identity and his total inability to navigate. There's being bad at directions, then there's stumbling and bumping into every single thing around you. Nuzleaf also feels underdeveloped (so far) despite seeming important at first.

I'm still not a fan of the protagonist being treated like a kid and stuck in baby school for babies. Granted, having classes about dungeons and gameplay mechanics is a good way to teach the player. Speaking of which, I like Looplets/Emeras. They evolve the concept of held items and IQ skills, and add some interesting randomness to dungeon runs. Dungeon generation feels better than it was in Gates, and teammates no longer wander off all the time, which is a huge relief. However, enemies are major damage sponges and my moves seem to miss a lot, so battles often drag on. Some enemies do a lot of damage, too.

I've only seen a single Pokemon go on break so far. I know breaks are one of the biggest complaints about the game, but it hasn't been an issue for me so far. Another potential issue is how missions don't generate infinitely, and are limited to the number of characters you can recruit. There's still a ton of missions to do, but it's a really lame change from previous games.

And with that, I gotta go. See you in Lively Town.

>>58284943
>>What characteristics make a good PMD OC?
keep it close to the games, minimalistic deviation is best
>>What type of story do you most want to see in a PMD hack and why?
i have no specific expectations for tone. just don't give me bullshit that feels unwarranted
>>What was the most difficult situation you got into in any PMD game and how did you get out of it without dying?
i stole from kecleon, i think, and i had to make my way to the stairs. i had in my inventory at the time a load of tunnel wands, so i just spammed those until i hit the stairs.
>>What PMD song do you hate the most?
hate the most? oh boy isn't this a loaded question
well, uh, i'm not exactly a fan of the default boss battle theme as much as the others. in any game i just sort of tune it out more than i do other songs. i don't so much hate it because i don't really hate any pmd song but it is the one i sort of glean over the most

I don't believe they host downloads for the animations on a transparent background. They're mostly for ROM hacks. You might have to make a gif yourself

They have gif previews of the animations tho, but for some reason I can't right click and save those as gifs, they always come out as pngs in the middle of the animation

Maybe the villagers were right when they said it was too dangerous to leave Serene Village.

Sheer Mountain Range was brutal. Drifloon continues to be a menace in this game. I even ran out of apples and had to scarf down all my berries--and even then, I kept fainting from hunger and had to use all my tiny reviver seeds just to survive. Good thing the starvation only hit close to the end, and I could get out of the dungeon before it was too late. From now on, I'll be sure to pack more apples when I enter dungeons.

On the bright side, I made it to Lively Town. I remember some stuff about the Expedition Society from my first playthrough, but I forgot a lot of details. I've seen quite a bit of criticism about the group (especially when compared to Wigglytuff's Guild), so it'll be interesting to revisit them and judge them for myself.

>>
>>58291833
chespin is a pretty major player in the actual fic for what its worth
I mean, it might be? memeing aside, the other gen 6 starters tend to attract more of the unruly types, although chespin does get its fair share, it doesn't seem like as much as the other two for some reason.
there's an upside to that too though if you think about it. a hole to fill, if you catch my drift

Bout to finish up Shiren 5. Really great and addictive game mechanically but it's odd how mixed I feel about it in the end. Mechanically, it's incredible. Arguably better than any of the PMD games, but it's odd, though it's about as long as a PMD title I feel like it was shorter and I was trying to figure out why that is and I think it comes down to monotony and the small scale story. In PMD there's just a lot more to do and concern yourself with. The dungeons are more varied, there are more objectives, there are more unique NPC's, and the story is usually on a grander scale. In Shiren you are going up the same routes and the dungeons, though randomly generated, are presented in the exact same order every time. The small scale story, 35 floor main dungeon, and only 2 boss fights leave it feeling so small, again, even though it's around the same length as a PMD.

I heard this before. Is there any other reason you would be stopped when running in a hallway? I remember being stopped really often, and if each time was due to hidden items, it seems surprising that there would be such a large number of them. Are hidden items that common?

Depends on the dungeon, although most dont have many buried items. If you're using a mon that can cross water (and presumably also cliffs, but idk for sure) then you're constantly get stopped by that as well.

I really wish there'd be more discussion on new Clover stories on the thread instead of merely in the magma (for the sake of potential new anons who lurk and see stories posted but little-to-no engagement which might discourage them...) so I suppose I'll try to be the change I want to see in the world.

To note: while I might normally try to leave critical feedback, I'm not the best at it nor am I particularly in the mood to reread everything through a critical lens so, while I am going to be sharing my thoughts on stories from this and the previous thread (the older ones are a bit too far back for me to give proper them proper attention they deserve), it'll be basic takeaways as opposed to proper critiques that (in my opinion) do a lot to help writers improve; as a CG writer myself I know I appreciate it so I'm sorry this time I won't be returning the favor.

With that aside, my thoughts on the first of these stories, Vee-anon's part one of his Summer Festival Story >>58284943:
Firstly, glad to see you writing again! Your older stories have very nice prose, something I'm a sucker for, and this story is no different. Very great imagery and its nice to have Rain and Cory finally (story-wise) join the Clover Guild! I enjoyed the playing-around with Rain having to explain to Cory human terms as well as the obliviousness to the Guild's reputation; the latter is always a trope unique to Clover that I love to see (plus the human-related shenanigans). Speaking of, it's nice to see Rain meet someone with a similar taste in flowers and to see her so passionate! As for her partner, well, I for one am always a fan of Cory's shitty puns. I know you said you don't plan on writing more and while the art you make is undoubtedly welcome, I do hope to see more of your writing.
>>
>>58304014
Next is Rowlet-anon's FRISM #0001>>58284943:
I remember seeing when you had posted on the Guild's booru the images for your story and waiting in anticipation for a new story... well, better late than never! And well worth the wait, I'd say. Your mix of comic panels and prose in a story is very unique and its nice to see how well you manage to make the two work together. The quality of your drawings is very in a vacuum as well! As for the content of your story, seeing Cider as a native mon with his own preferences (and disdain for cotton) is funny. Plus the little bits of dialogue unique to Cider (>Pluck my life) are definitely welcome and something I enjoy about the PMD setting. You also do really well with Cider's reaction to seeing Latin characters being >unown script but stylized; very neat interpretation by Cider! Also (and quite obviously), I look forward to the inevitable conflict between he and Team Cozy, which was of course properly seeded (kek) by Cider's interactions with Wooper. I also really enjoyed your portrayal of Lliam. Finally, I definitely look forward to the next story you (hopefully) have planned with Cider and those Beheeyem(?) in the faraway village, plus the mysterious note on Cider's door; it seems you've much conflict for Cider planned out so here's to hoping that the next installment of your story comes sooner rather than later, Rowlet-anon!

Third is Sceptile-anon's small update to his EmeraldSpark comic>>58285104:
There's not too much to be said since it's just two new pages except that it's cool to see that Jung isn't only a human but that he seems to have been isekai'd alongside another one. While I think this trope has only been done once before (in Growlithe-anon's story) I do like the implication here that the two former humans are at odds with one another, so I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Also: excited to see you go for a second rendition of last year's HLWN challenge!
>>
>>58303892
>Place your bets on how cringe this is going to be.
The creator added a content warning, so it's guaranteed cringe
>>
>>58304033
Fourth is Makhutia-anon's stories (yes, stories plural!) The Great Bulk: Beginner's Luck and The Platinum Syndicate: Team Stardust Goes for the Gold! It's a lot so I'm splitting it between posts:
Let me start off my saying in general that I appreciate how you have weaved both the Platinum Syndicate and Great Bulk stories together. I know they both share have the same origins before deviating but seeing them come back together once more is really fantastic. I really enjoy seeing Makky's and Cassie's more aloof narration (plus that of most others) is an interesting contrast with more serious characters' such as Lombre/Tallarin's and Asana's (also I love how Makky refers to her as Assy). It also highlights how the duos have specific vendettas with each other, namely Makky and Cassie being both human and seeing things in a more light way whereas Tallarin and Asana both being native and Tallarin wishing to kill specifically Asana makes their similar personalities all the more ironic.

For Great Bulk>>58284943, while I enjoyed the fight scene (plus Makky's reasoning as to why humans would be involved; very clever!) I most enjoyed the ending where he and Assy talked about aura. Seeing Makky being encouraging towards his partner despite her discouragement at seeing Makky's incredible progress with his control over aura is a dynamic I really like seeing which not only highlights Asana's extremely high standards for herself but also (and much to my delight) Makky's worldview and incessant drive to make those around him better for their own sake. His own internal dialogue propping up his partner exemplifies this.

Have you ever wanted to play Explorers of Sky, but didn't feel like playing through the entire story all over again, and just wanted to skip straight to the postgame?

Introducing PMD Sky: Postgame QoL Edition 1.0, a romhack for Explorers of Sky. As the name implies, when you start a new game, you begin immediately after having unlocked Marine Resort, and with (most) dungeons unlocked by default. There are also many quality of life changes made to the game, to make raising Pokemon more efficient and convenient. Huge amount of credit to Wooperdev, who made Project Orion, as many of the changes in Postgame QoL either originated from, or were heavily inspired by, Orion, although it has enough differences to stand on its own. Includes a mostly remixed starter selection, and many changes to abilities/learnsets, as well as some edits to existing dungeons.

Download link here: https://mega.nz/folder/ARs2TDaC#ybnFi5D88ZQ6QeEKZNgjQA

The xdelta patch is to be applied to a clean US rom of Explorers of Sky, NOT the Xenophobia rom. The correct rom should be called Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Sky (USA).

Feel free to provide feedback in the thread, i will try to respond quickly.
>>
>>58304062
By the way, make sure you read changelog.txt and readme.txt as well, they should have details about every change made to the hack and it hopefully should answer most questions
>>
>>58304047
As for Platinum Syndicate >>58301150, it was cool to see the return of those characters plus Tallarin, as it has been a while since we've seen both. It's for that very reason your portrayal of those characters from Tallarin's perspective to give us a sort of refresher is both very creative and much appreciated. The battle was, like in your previous story, good to read, but what I enjoyed most was Tallarin's interaction with Shanks. Two very strong characters with a clear future fight being setup is great! Plus Tallarin's humility in not saying that he used his bad arm when called a deadshot got a laugh out of me. I am quite curious to see what you have planned for Tallarin and the potential havoc he alongside the rest of the Platinum Syndicate will cause and what will happen once they and Team Ying-Yang meet again.

Finally, for Flareon-anon (formerly; welcome back, Umbreon-anon :))'s story Circus Freaks: the Explorer (also splitting)>>58289717:
I really enjoyed seeing your two characters finally meet. Overall, this story was one of my favorites of what you've put out. Seeing Adrian from Kenny's perspective was refreshing for the character and you setup the reason as to why the two would continue interacting outside of their intial meetup well.

>>58304075
A hack that not only seems to prioritize gameplay over story, but actively cut the story out of EOS.

>>
>>58304082
Not only that, but the ensuing investigation and combat was extremely captivating; I found myself especially interested in how the final battle would turn out. However, while your combat was exceptional, just like with Makhutia-anon's stories I found myself far more invested in what happened after with Adrian. Your exploration of his inner conflict as to what he should do and the eventual appearance of Team Moonshine (I was actually surprised he wrote to them and didn't lie about it; it seems he really did want them, as evidenced by the ending) was cathartic. Having him return to being a Umbreon due to friendship, something Adrian was unsurprisingly loathe to admit, was a great detail as well. I am quite glad this story arc from the beginning of when Moonshine found the camera up to now has been resolved with such a fantastic payoff to boot. Again, fantastic execution of everything that had been built up. As with the other writers, I very much look forward to seeing what else you have in store.

In sum, I'm so glad there has been a recent surge in Clover stories being made. I think its so wonderful how there can be such a wide range of stories all in the shared universe of Clover, which is why to me the Clover Guild is unmatched in its entertainment. So glad I managed to find this unique corner of the internet.
>>
>>58304111
This is cool and all but you got one thing wrong

>(I was actually surprised he wrote to them and didn't lie about it; it seems he really did want them, as evidenced by the ending)

He didn't write to them. Spoink did because Adrian told Magnezone he would send a message to them, but didn't. “Well, you and Kenneth ran off on your investigation immediately. I figured you’d forgotten, so I took the liberty of sending it myself. To Team Moonshine of the Clover Guild if I’m not mistaken.”

Adrian genuinely believed he wouldn't be accepted back, and he didn't plan on going back regardless. He only said he'd send a message to them because Magnezone pressed him on where his team was.

That's a Yutanpo, a Japanese bottle where you put hot water, then wrap in a cloth and put it in bed (usually close to the feet) to help warm up in cold nights.
You know the "hot water bottle" mentioned in Torchic's dex entry? In the original Japanese dex it is referring to these.

>I really wish there'd be more discussion on new Clover stories on the thread instead of merely in the magma (for the sake of potential new anons who lurk and see stories posted but little-to-no engagement which might discourage them...)
I usually lurk here on the weekends and wondered why there was such little fanfare over all these great stories. Genuinely had no idea the magma was the main discussion area.
>>
>>58309966
It's not meant to be. It's just that you can find most of the authors there so it's easier to talk with them. Plus the fact that you have to "whisper" since there are no spoilers means that there is 1-on-1 talk but rarely group discussion, which the thread excels at.

I'm sure if you speak your thoughts here you'll get engagement from the author and others.

I think I'm almost halfway into the first hack, so I'll write some thoughts on it so far.
To begin with, it does sort of count as a PMD hack since Mystery Dungeons are present in the setting and you even go through one (kind of), the hack has several PMD items like scarves/orbs/reviver seeds, and you even have the Kecleons as shopkeepers and the Kangaskhan storage.

>STORY
The first hack is divided into around 5 "parts" and I'm currently at the start of part 3. It takes place in a world where humans are evil™ oppressing and enslaving Pokémon.
At the end of each part the story switches to another PoV and you follow a different group of characters.

Part 1 follows a cloaked Samurott with a "dark secret past™" and an Aggron, both being "immune" to Pokéballs. They go around attacking human cities to kill trainers and free their Pokémon, eventually forming a liberation army of sorts. It has wonky pacing filled with timeskips since it starts with the Samurott not knowing how to fight, then in the next chapter he is suddenly a feared swordsman, then in the next chapter it is suddenly 6 months later. Overall the start is cringe but not as cringe/edgy as I expected.

Part 2 is where the story really gets bonkers. The PoV switches to a group of humans in a different modern world without Pokémon (that's right, this story features PARALLEL UNIVERSES!), then Pokémon suddenly start coming out of a gate and killing everyone.
For this part the hack suddenly decides it wants to be a survival horror game as you have dark maps, guns, Resident Evil puzzles, Obama, scattered corpses, escape missions, super secret lab experiments, and a virus that gradually turns people into Pokémon.
At the end their story intertwines with the Part 1 characters'.

>GAMEPLAY
I associate cringe hacks with poor balance, so I expected this to have bullshit difficulty. Turns out it is actually super easy and getting overpowered in it is trivial since experience gains are quite high, you get plenty of weapon drops (including ones with infinite uses), there are many opportunities to grind, there are Joy Ribbons which boosts experience gains, and a scarf that increases stat growths. On that note, the bonuses from scarves/ribbons in this hack are applied just by the character carrying them, and you can carry several at once.

The game starts on Chapter 1 and you are immediately asked if you want to play the Prologue chapter. After finishing the prologue you go back to chapter 1 where you are asked again if you want to play the prologue. What this means is that you can grind the prologue as much as you want, and it even has an enemy that drops a Blue Gem for infinite money and some shops.

Maps have simple objectives in the first part and the reinforcements are not overwhelming. This hack also uses the passive skill patch that is popular in FE hacks, but here the characters get so many skills from leveling that you actually reach the limit of skills and have to forget some to make space.
Also, most units can use staves and I guess this is to parallel wands from PMD.

Every unit is marked as essential, so if even a single character dies you get a game over, but in chapter 1 you get the option to enable "casual mode" to counter that (not that you need to since the hack is easy).

By the way, despite most of the cast being Pokémon the hack uses the base Fire Emblem human sprites and animations for maps and battles. It looks awkward as hell, especially since most enemies just have generic names like "Wild One" instead of mentioning what Pokémon they are. And the weapons are just Fire Emblem weapons renamed to Pokémon moves.

>PRESENTATION / TECHNICAL
As you can see from the screenshots the portraits are pure QUALITY, especially the custom human ones. There are also several technical issues with them like parts being cut off or chunks missing (see the Zoroark portrait as an example).

For audio the hack uses music from several games, including PMD (so far I have heard Sky Tower, Defend Globe, and the boss theme). I also gotta mention how every time you select an unit the game plays a voice clip, which is as tacky as it sounds: https://files.catbox.moe/t49ziy.webm

On the technical side I have already found several bugs. Some examples: a map where the game softlocks if some characters die in the "wrong" order; in the prologue the Aggron randomly has a support bonus with a Zekrom which disappears after that; there is a map where the shops are bugged and I couldn't access them; trying to open Aggron's support list flat out crashes the emulator (and it made a loud screeching noise the first time it happened).
There are also graphical issues like the portrait cuts I mentioned, weird/misplaced map tiles, and battle animations being wonky if you use a weapon the class wasn't meant to use in the base Fire Emblem.

When it comes to positive aspects I have to give the author some praise for: trying different gameplay mechanics in part 2 even if they are janky; so far every character is getting screentime instead of being relegated to the background; despite the story being bonkers the dialogue has been okay-ish given the tone.

So yeah, unsurprisingly the hack is indeed cringe. It wasn't that bad at first, but part 2 really cranked it up. So far it seems that Part 3 will be more grounded, but I'm sure the edgyness will ramp up later given what happens at the end of part 2.

It hasn't been confirmed yet, but it is heavily implied. There's the clothes, being a fully evolved mon despite never having fought before, and he has a bit of a PTSD episode when he sees one guy transforming into a Pokémon.
I also forgot to mention that he has a super special sword which brings risks to the user's life if used and needs a special activation phrase, because of course he does.

Recently three magazine interviews from 2007 and 2009 with the Explorers developers were found and translated.
There's some interesting stuff in them:

INTERVIEW 1 - 2007(the year Time/Darkness released)
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11_kQlPV4EiA9eFCBapkHCGeTg0r0E4UxuyzGf6UctpU/
>Initial plan was to name the games Time/Sky instead of Time/Darkness, but Sky was changed to Darkness because otherwise it would have been too obvious that Dialga and Palkia would have been involved (?)
>The Explorer games were initially planned to be released on both the DS and the Wii
>"At first Darkrai’s story wasn’t supposed to be that long, but before we knew it, it’d become twice what we planned it to be, and then it even got to thrice that original plan"

INTERVIEW 2 - 2009 (year of Sky's release)
https://www.tumblr.com/pmdcollector/787567058727649280/special-interview-the-past-present-and-future
>There was a staff member who really wanted Phanpy included as a starter
>Eevee being a starter in Sky might have been influenced by a message from a girl from France
>Buneary and Pachirisu were initial candidates for Sky starters
>Tomie (scenario writer for the series) said that "when it comes to the world, while they do not make any appearances, humans do exist as far as the setting goes"
>A Lucario was originally planned for Grovyle's role, but they went with a Grovyle instead since "Lucario has a strong reputation for being a Pokémon of justice, and does not seem like a criminal"

INTERVIEW 3 - 2009
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1c89nTc7Uw-RbCHTtdNsdB9BuaWsH2NVvfhtcCm1Z-1A/
>Development of Sky was already on the table when Time/Darkness was being made, and it began properly one month after their release
>Spinda's Cafe was initially planned to be Meowth's Cafe as Meowth was going to be removed as a partner option, but then he got added back
>>
>>58319275
>it would have been too obvious that Dialga and Palkia would have been involved (?)
It wasn't obvious that Dialga was involved? Changing it to darkness meant it wasn't obvious Darkrai was involved?

At least glad to see that the series writer confirmed that humans were in the setting. Clears up that one plot hole, though it also raises a lot of questions for future games

>>Tomie (scenario writer for the series) said that "when it comes to the world, while they do not make any appearances, humans do exist as far as the setting goes"
I don't like the implications here.
>>
>>58319405
It was kind of obvious. Given that a human existed in the future, and literally nobody questioned it. They were only confused to hear that he'd been turned into a pokemon.
>>
>>58319420
I always liked the idea of "no humans but sometimes they get summoned from the human world" way more than "there's actually humans but they're off in some cave eating rocks somewhere"
>>
>>58319437
It was the latter in the first two games. It was pretty obvious. Does having the writer remind you really fuck up the story that much?
>>
I always assumed that the pokemon world was far future where all humans went extinct, and the human from dark future was there because of time travel shenanigans or maybe summoned there like protagonists from other games. Red/Blue had old human ruins for friend areas.

Another update on Super. I've been working with the Society for a while, and my next destination is Showdown Mountain. I'm not the biggest fan of the Society being portrayed as quirky and incompetent, but at least they get serious sometimes. The characters could've been fleshed out better (but the same could be said for multiple members of Wigglytuff's Guild, to be fair). I think Buizel and Archen are written well enough, at least. The others are either decent or lacking. And I'm still weirded out by the fact they have a Jirachi, as if it's perfectly normal to have an ultra-rare mythical Pokemon as your coworker.

I made sure to buy the Grass Pass and visit Capim Town as soon as I could. I never much cared about it before the Clover Guild, but now it's got a very special place in my heart. It was nice to revisit it and walk around town with our guild on my mind. I like the way we've expanded the town in our OC.

Also, I went through Fire Island Volcano recently. Its music is still arguably my favorite PMD song. It's just so fun to listen to, and it has an interesting combo of instruments. We need more didgeridoo in PMD.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usuKnzJLoHU
As for the thing that happens at the end of the dungeon: the Harmony Scarves are a neat concept, but I wish they got more use. Unless I'm mistaken, they're only used 2-3 times in the entire game. Also, I have to wonder if more Harmony Scarves could be made. They're a pretty powerful tool. But I wouldn't be surprised if the technique to make them has been lost to time (I can't remember if that was ever explained in the game itself).

This is my least favorite thing in all of PMD. Victini and Verizion are one thing, but Jirachi was someone very special even in other PMD games.

It's even better because, firstly, (minor spoilers) Jirachi does fuck-all for the entire game, and second, later on the game actually acknowledges that it should be unusual when Jirachi tries to go "um, guys, I'm a mythical pokemon", and everyone just ignores him and the dialogue continues as if he's not there.

I really need someone to just beat this into my skull. I'll have 200 different ideas that I build on in my head and 6 months later this is all I have written down.
>>
>>58323244
My advice? As someone with the same problem? Just keep trying. Be kind to yourself and just keep reminding yourself of WHY you want to create. Remind yourself that it's something you truly love, and let it foster the actual drive over time. It's been how I've gotten better, though obviously I don't know if it'll help everyone.
>>
>Keep slamming your head into that brick wall, eventually you'll crack it.

Find something you're really interested in writing man. If you've got ideas stirring around in your head but you don't enjoy writing them, go back to the drawing board. Forcing yourself to write can be okay for figuring out ideas, or just general practice, but it can easily lead to burnout

Victini and Virizion were treated with a higher status than Jirachi is. Jirachi is just another member of the Expedition Society, but Virizion is immediately swarmed by the town and famous overnight. Victini remains a sort of oddity, but definitely not treated as someone normal. He was there to manage the anomalous V-Wave mechanic, and wasn't expanded upon much further than that. If there's any argument to be made that mythicals and legendaries can be written as good main characters in PMD, these two are prime examples. They both have different ways of handling their unique status in the pokemon world, but they're effective nonetheless

Its pretty much centered around the Clover Guild (unsurprisingly since that's mostly the thread now until a new PMD). You can always stop by the magma if you wanna get involved but if that's not for you a good trick is to open the booru and search for names

Usually happens with pretty short notice tbqh but since lurkers are joining more we might announce it with more advanced notice.

Gotta take a break from climbing this mountain to scratch my head about the Expedition Gadget and Nexus. I still can't get over them. They're so much more high-tech than anything else in PMD (excluding the weird human ruins from RT, of course).

Based on what I've read, Jirachi apparently invented them, so I guess that explains where they come from. But I still dunno how he was able to create futuristic devices in a world much less advanced than our own. I mean, this is a literal cell phone, complete with a social media app. (Come to think of it, how to Pokemon post on the Connection Orb? Do they all have their own devices that link up with the network?) Granted, the phone functionality requires a specific species like Dedenne to work, but as long as you've got one to act as your operator, you can make phone calls that reach all over the continent.

I wonder if the next PMD haha... will include more advanced tech like this, or if it'll revert to the low-tech style of previous games.

It's one of many strange decisions in the game that really sets it apart from the rest of the series. I've heard some people love it, and the voice communication was a head canon in a couple stories I used to read. That was usually just limited to dungeons, but it explained how party members could do things while split up

While it is out of place, I don't hate the idea of pokemon developing more complex technology. This was just far too much, far too quick.

>One 60+ hours playthrough of a 50-chapter FE hack later
I shat on the story for Parts 1/2, but then it improved in Part 3 (out of 5). It follows a group of humans who get turned into Pokémon and sent to the world of Part 1 but separated from each other, so you follow 3 PoVs as they adapt to their alien situation.
One becomes a Charizard and her segment is very "PMD-like" since it focuses on natives helping her adapt to her new body and overcome baggage from her human life. Another is a Delphox trying to hide his human identity while travelling with Pokémon in a society who hates humans and hunts them. These segments work because they are more detached from the central story.

This part is where the story’s strongest point starts to shine: the supporting cast is solid.
Everyone (except for two missable recruits) gets screentime and development with some of them even having character arcs. The author put care into ensuring that even less important characters get to participate in plot conversations, and the banter between them is mostly enjoyable.

This is also where I should mention something about this hack: it has a LOT of talking. Cutscenes are extensive and every map has exclusive Talk command conversations. It will feel like a Visual Novel at times.
I don’t mind long conversations and to me most of them contributed to forwarding the plot or developing characters rather than pointless “yapping”, but I know this is a dealbreaker for many.

The writing has some good stuff going for it, but all this good stuff is surrounding a terrible core that taints everything.
By core I mean the Samurott. Everything about this fucking character sucks, but the ENTIRE plot gravitates around him and his Super Special Sword™. He’s not even part of your army after Part 1, but characters still wank and talk about him constantly.
I get what the author was going for with him, but the worst parts of the story are exactly the baggage he carries.

Cont.

The Samurott does have good moments, but it's overshadowed by scenes that were meant to be emotional but get undermined by stupid shit that brings it to peak cringekino levels.
As an example, during the ending he has a scene that was meant to be the emotional climax of the story, but then the hack threw its ugliest portrait at me and whatever emotion was supposed to be conveyed was replaced by me losing my sides.
He also has a major fight scene which was meant to be a pivotal moment of his character, but then a “specific” music plays during the fight and I just laughed through it.

As for gameplay, it’s very easy and hilarious how OP you can get. There were 3 instances of me thinking I had achieved peak OPness, then I got something even more broken. One of the protagonists can reach 80% chance of getting an extra turn with every action, with no limit per turn.
It can also get boring since all maps are “kill everything” or “kill everything if you want, then go to this spot”.

So, is Bound Destiny worth playing?
I guess it is worth a peek if you don’t mind very long cutscenes with ugly visuals and piss-easy gameplay, want cringekino, and are not expecting a “PMD-core” story. It does have several PMD elements to it and it is a Pokémon-centered story featuring humans turned into Pokémon, but the themes of post-war politics are not something you would expect from PMD.
As for me, despite its MANY faults and enduring the shittyness of Parts 1/2, I enjoyed my time with this hack (I did binge 60 hours of it in a week and a half) and plan on trying the sequels. Yes, this craziness is a trilogy and I am insane.

If you prefer, you can go “Visual Novel mode” since the author did an uncommented playthrough: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrIPZz2h4r5FSIN7GTfNsimy4WtSB1uO6

It sucks that this is the closest to a PMD hack with full-length original story since Skytemple fags keep desecrating Explorers’ corpse.

The midgame is indeed the best part of it, except for the third PoV which follows a Lucario becoming edgy and an Absol being a cunt. But after that it is back to the Samurott's melodrama, though still with some good moments from supporting characters.

Seems to be because in the game's portrait files there is an area that gets cut off (see the bottom screenshot).
But that begs the question of why didn't the author draw the portraits with that constraint in mind. My guess is that he only learned about that restriction once he had most of the portraits done already.
Thankfully, from looking at screenshots of the third game it seems that he has gotten much better at portraits.

They're sharing motifs for themes, you knuckle-dragging troglodyte. Next you will say every Mother 3 and Undertale song is the same because they reference each other. As much as I love Dialga's fight to the finish it along with Temporal Tower uses a base of the Time Gear motif, because it's all themed together. That is how you write musical theming cohesion.

I'm writing fanfic. Enamorus canonically is the embodiment of the Spring season and calming the harsh winters, but based on her Pokedex and Springtide Storm description, does she seem to have either a tie to emotional control and/or some netreulaizing or dampening effect on the other genies?
>it descends upon those who treat any form of life with disrespect and metes out wrathful, ruthless punishment.
>associated with fertility, love and lust akin to Aphrodite
>Springtide Storm: The user attacks by wrapping the target in fierce winds brimming with love and hate.
I make the observation compared to the other genies because her precense is made to neutralize the winter to usher in spring. While Tornadus has the potential to learn Snowscape, he doesn't really otherwise have any domain over snow or snow clouds.
I kinda want to fit her in as the outlier to the other 3 and come in not to defeat or one-up them, so much as temper them and quell the rage that the other genies hold.

So you have Rescue teams, you have exploration teams, and Expidition Society teams. Wigglytuff's guild and Ampharos' society handle all their administration and seem to answer to no higher authority, though are capable of collaberation. Meanwhile there's an unknown Rescue Organization that oversees administration for the Rescue Teams such as ATC and Meanies who are only referenced, applied to, and communicated with in RT through mail.
So are team orgs all seperate organizations that might reach out to each other but share no common umbrella affiliation or leadership? Can anyone just up and make a group and call themselves the ___ Group and the inly difference being how much clout, resources, and respect the established organizations have compared to a startup?
>>
>>58347985
Wigglytuff’s Guild and all other exploration guilds (on the Grass Continent, at least) answer to the Exploration Team Federation. But that group is rarely mentioned and poorly explained in the games.
>>
>>58347985
Pretty much, yeah. It's not like there's anything stopping you from making your own group. In fact, that's pretty much what you do in GtI.

For Wigglytuff's guild it seems that there is some other authority similar to RT's, since there's a bunch of teams around town that hang around, go on explorations, and get missions from the first floor, but don't seem to be a part of the guild and never go to the lower floor.
>>
>>58347980
If there's a good anonymous alternative I'd be glad to use it. Magma also just has a lot of features on it
>>
>>58348077
I always assumed all those outside groups were just freelance teams unaffiliated with the guild, like independant contractors. If >>58348077
is true then they could have gotten their start solo and just go to the WT guild to loon for work, which is essentially what you become after passing the guild's graduation trial. My assumption is that protwg and partner at the beginning of Explorers could have gone independent but partner specifically wanted to join Wigglytuff's and lacked the confidence/strength to start out solo like you do in Rescue or Gates. I wonder if they still get taxed or have to pay some sort of commision/finder's fee to the guild for using their services even if they aren't in the guild. Think about the sentries, they still let these private teams in the building even if they aren't in the guild, so they have to hsve been registered or established somehow. The Federation would explain that.

PMD Sky: Postgame QoL Edition 1.1 has been released! This update adds 2 brand new optional dungeons, Strange Swamp, and Wither Woods. An explorer in Spinda's Cafe has information about them.

Also, Tatsugiri, Phantump, and Trevenant have been added to the game! They can be found in the new dungeons added this update, and will surely be useful additions to your team. They also have their own exclusive items, the Sushi Scale, and the Stump Hat. (Ditto and Unown have had their exclusive items removed because of this... In the future I would like to add them back in though.)

Lastly, many miscellaneous changes, fixes, and improvements have been made. Check changelog 1.1.txt for a full list of additions.

Enjoy the hack, and again, feel free to provide feedback in the thread.
