My concept for AniMay VN would be a "Jirachi Festival" happening in Johto for reasons. There's a comet that will pass the skies for a few days and it is said to grant wishes. It's multi-day event depending on the writer. Because it's a festival all sorts of classic VN venues and dating spots can be easily incorporated like food stalls (May after all likes to eat) to fireworks at the end celebrating the passing of the commen for the classic fireworks confession. All your favorite Coordinators from Hoenn are there to compete to be the King or Queen of the Stars. (You) the MC, a downtrodden adult man who is a vigin, go there for two things: to make a wish upon the star (comet) and to see May. You saw her not too long ago on TV and you instantly became enamored by her. Not knowing if she'll be even in the festival you are conpelled to go there by some force (actually you're own will). The story is about not relying on wishes to have good things happen to you.

While indirect, he's canonically killed people for Sapphire's sake. After tricking them of course.

It's called "conditional empathy" in pop psych which comes up in discussion of dark triad personalities (like narcissism). Religious themes aside I think Sapphire and Ruby's characters are commentary on Japan's strict social norms (especially ones associated with urban life), implying JP culture would be better if it accepted more individuality (ie kindness to people who are different, or unique thought creating solutions that NPCs can't make) yet without going too far into hyper individualist degeneracy (selfishly doing whatever you want even if it hurts yourself or others).But finding a balance is complicated.
