Sleep Style Discovery Week Edition

What is Pokémon Sleep?
Pokémon Sleep is a sleep tracking app that utilizes your smartphone and/or the Pokémon Go Plus + device to record data as you sleep. In doing so, you'll be able to meet a variety of Pokémon and fill out your Sleep Style Dex.

Be sure to post your Research ID so that you can add and share candy with fellow Anons. We are currently locked at 50 friends.

FAQ:
>How do Shinies work?
If you encounter a shiny Pokémon, you only need to feed it a single Poké Biscuit to befriend it.
>What should I spend my diamonds on?
Expanding your ingredient pockets, item pockets and Pokémon box. Long term you’ll want to max out ingredient pockets, only get half of max for items and max 100 for Pokémon.
>When should I use my items?
When you have a good grasp of the game mechanics. You may want to save up Recovery Incenses for event missions.
>What should I spend my sleep points on?
Poké Biscuits first or if you’re a premium user: Main and Subskill seeds and Great Biscuits.
>Can I play this game if there's a lot of noise where I sleep?
The game tracks sleep based on motion only; sound has no impact.
>A Pokémon I fed got full! Will I have to start from scratch the next time I find one?
Nope! Pokémon retain the level of progress they were at the last time you fed them.
>How do dream clusters work?
The higher your research rank, the more you get. You may want to hold onto them as long as possible.

Man its been quiet here recently.
I'm going to probably be away in an area out of signal range, so please don't delete me I'll be back next week.
>>
Did anyone go to an island to actually look for a specific species besides Natu? I mainly went to push Lapis, but I don't think I'm actually going to get very close to M20 at 5-odd million Power. I can still use a Primape and Treecko though.

>>58330864
I managed to play while I went camping for a week. So long as you can get enough signal to actually get into the game, you only need it to check your research and set your sleep. If you set airplane mode right after you enter tracking mode, you don't have to be connected until you decide to "wake up".
>>
>>58331140
I went to the same place last year and It is almost impossible to even get the game to open. The joys of rural New south Wales
>>
Buncha Berries week with a GCT and grass/fire berries on 20% area bonus has been going fine. Hit 2m / Master 1 before Friday lunch, comfortably on track for Master 3 and a new PB.

It's weird not running any ingredient farmers, though. I'm just burning off ingredient tickets to make up whatever decent dish I can to avoid making mixed salads.

Are you remembering to candy boost?
I got my BFS Typhlosion and Ninetales to 50 this week. Typhlosion got Helping Speed M for a big speed boost, and Ninetales unlocked Energy Recovery Bonus, which for some reason gives it a huge RP boost. It waking up to 105% energy is nice, though.
Next two days, I'm boosting my BFS Blaziken since it's still only level 40.

>>58330864
It has been quiet, but with Legends Z-A and leak season coming up, /zzz/'s probably going to fall off a bunch of times.
/zzz/'s regularly hitting page 8 if I'm not checking in.

>>58331140
Broadly, I'm looking for a lot of things really. I haven't had a single natural Natu spawn yet, mostly just berry gathering focused spawns this week.
Got a decent Rufflet this morning, but for a high-investment Pokémon I want to find better.
>>
Dang it, forgot to use my Candy Boost yesterday. Not that im using it to pump up something to use right away, just dumping candies into Darkrai as a safe investment.
>>
It'd just occurred to me that Sleep hasn't announced any particular events coinciding with the launch window of Legends Z-A.
Maybe we'll get an event, or even some new Pokémon?
Tepig's absence from Sleep would make that awkward, unless they can add it along with Snivy and Oshawott.

Next week however, is the Sleep Style Discoveries week, with boosted chances to find undiscovered sleep styles.
Consider going to your map with the lowest completion rate.

They're also selling a small bundle that includes Ditto incense.
I remember that very early on, there's apparently a sleep style that's exclusive to the Ditto incense, so you might want to get this.

>>58333421
There's probably always something you can work on, whether it's just buffing up a berry specialist's levels, or aiming for an ingredient specialist's level 60, or whatever.

Candy boost is good just for making your existing team stronger, if there isn't something new to set up at an affordable price.
>>
>>58333946
I'd be really excited if Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde were added in an event. Cyan, Snowdrop, and Amber Canyon need some legendaries
>>
>>58333946
I don't think we've actually had events specifically to line up with main or side-game releases in the first place. The last time we got anything remotely relevant were the Paldean starters coming with the First Anniversary, which wasn't particularly close to any related release DLC or otherwise. Aside from announcements around Pokemon Day and the game's anniversary, it seems pretty separate.
Right now we're basically set for Halloween > Eevee Week + Amber Canyon release > Christmas, with maybe some random bonus weeks thrown in here and there.
>>
Realized that Berry Burst is really good for Expert Mode since it can benefit from both the Skills and Berries bonus, while Charge Strength/Berry mons each only benefit from one. Got me thinking about Extra Helpful since that can benefit from all 3 bonuses and also be good for getting more ingredients from off-type mons with reduced helping speed.
Aside from Alolan Ninetales, Jolteon is probably the best candidate for this since you can have an E4E mon with a matching type to not waste 20% of your skill procs on. It would also be relatively easy to get an Eevee with BFS+HB and level it up to 60 for maximum strength.
>>
>>58334170
Each area technically already has at least 1 legendary that spawns there, even ignoring Darkrai, which will spawn anywhere.
Cyan: Suicune
Taupe: Entei
Snowdrop : Cressalia
Lapis: Cressalia & Suicune
OGPP: Raikou

Will be interesting to see what else comes to Amber Canyon though.
>>
>>58335156
Any skill that can get berries are some of the strongest, since they will continue to scale in power as Pokemon levels increase, whereas other static power skills will need to wait for level increases.
Extra Helpful and Helper Boost (dogs) require your whole team to be good gatherers to really pay off, but they can also be usable at lower levels since all that matters is that the skill hits someone decent. All the current Extra Helpful users are pretty decent, but you can't really rely on the skill to be very consistent, which is why you need BFS on all of them. A. Ninetales, Arcanine, Gallade, and Jolteon are all good choices, but Extra Helpful also only gives +1 help per each skill level, making it rather unappealing and unexciting as far as power-up choices go.
Berry Burst and Lunar Blessing (Cressalia) are the opposite in that they only care about the user's level, but that also makes them a bit more lenient with your team comp. Basically you get punished less for having skill specialists.

This guy usable? Bad nature I guess but I like the skill
>>
>>58337161
usable yes. it's the fastest fairy pokemon, so bfs is great on it. it's skill trigger rate isn't great though, so the nature just makes it more of a pseudo berry mon rather than really bumping it's skill
>>
>>58330864
>>58331276
Thank you for the heads up on this. I hope you have a great time where you're going.

>>58333946
The only thing I could really see coming out of this is a slow drip feed of Kalos Pokémon or even Pokémon that appear throughout Lumiose in Z-A that previously weren't part of the native XY dex.

Too early to say for the latter, especially since I don't doubt we'll have a Halloween event near the end of the month. Ghost types are a given, but that also doesn't discount Bug or Poison or even Psychic if we didn't just introduce Natu and Xatu.

Goomy at some point, maybe?
>>
>>58334270
>I don't think we've actually had events specifically to line up with main or side-game releases in the first place.

Part of that is there hasn't been a new instalment since Sleep first launched in 2023.
Legends Z-A and Scarlet/Violet were 2022, the SV expansions were 23/24.
>>
Where are you going next week?

I'm at lapis this week. My next goal is M20 at taupe, and I'm close to maxing out its area bonus. However, I don't have a good permanent vikavolt, and I could also use a luxray for ABB oil, so I'm planning on OGPP next week. I just caught 2 nice BFS pichus I can level up while I'm there.
>>
>>58338671
Since next week's focus is discovering new sleep styles, and expert GG has my lowest completion rate (85% versus ~ 90% for other maps), it makes sense for me to try my luck there whilst getting my expert bonus up further. It'll be 25% next week.

The 1.25x cooking strength bonus will make things a little easier, but probably not as easy as this week's +1 berry on berry specialists.
I'll probably use a GCT for next week, too, seems worthwhile.
Most of this week has been a fully berry team with Pawmot on healing duty, and ingredient tickets to make any decent dish, but I noticed that if I bring on Gengar for mushrooms I'd be able to make three Ninja Salads on Sunday, so right now it's substituting my weaker Meganium.
>>
>>58338671
Event bonuses.
>Increased chance for undiscovered styles
>Balanced spawns
>1.25x cooking power
Doesn't really seem like a particularly good event to try and push any island, but you could get some of those harder-to-find 3rd evolution styles. There's also the Ditto incense to consider. Not really sure if that locked style will actually be available and where it might spawn. I believe it's a Larvitar form, so Taupe and Greengrass seem like good options.
>>
>>58339186
Actually nevermind about the Ditto. You should be able to see in your pieces and the area list whether or not you're missing any. I'm actually still missing Squirtle style, so the Larvitar style could just be leftover data since it's not in the game (yet).
>>
>>58339408
I'm at 9/10 Ditto sleep styles.
It's style #7 that I'm missing, which is Squirtle Sleep from Cyan Beach or Expert Greengrass.
Styles number #8 and #11 are currently absent from the game, but I think either of them were supposed to be the incense exclusive Larvitar sleep?

We might find out next week.
>>
Nothing of worth so far this week. Shiny Ivysaur was unusable, of course.
>>
Rolled over my pogo++ again
>>
>>58341609
Where do you place it? I leave my phone at the head of the bed, so I don't think I would ever have that issue. I used to place it closer to my chest if I wanted to try and force Snoozing/Dozing, but I eventually stopped caring that much.

Get a hard-cover case that protects the big button.
It'll stop accidentally starting or ending sleep sessions, pic related is what I use and it doesn't interfere with measuring your sleep.

>>58342402
I had to reroll twice because I got really, really bad rolls the first two times. I should finish at master 6 this week thanks to rolling grass and fire.
Used candy boost to get my Typhlosion and Ninetales to level 50 and unlock useful subskills.

For next week's candy boosts, maybe there's some uninvested helper that you can set up for future expert runs? There might be some BFS "shitmon" that's not actually shit that you've been sitting on, expert mode has kinda necessitated that you stop ignoring the likes of Arbok, Marowak, and Dodrio.
>>
Disappointingly few Natu this week... A lot of Treecko though.
>>
It'll probably be worth me going back to Expert next week over trying to fish for a handful of missing styles on miscellaneous islands. Only question is whether or not there are event missions I might miss the mark on, assuming next week also has missions.

>>58342402
The extra berry has been surprisingly a lot less impactful than I thought it might be, maybe in part due to my lack of ability to make even a mid-tier meal at every opportunity. It'll probably turn out 15-20% above norm.
>>
>>58343142
I had zero fucking Natu/Xatu spawns this week, pretty annoying honestly.
I'm using an incense tonight to force one to appear.

>>58344243
Missions are usually datamined ahead of the event, and this time it looks like there's nothing.
The previous Sleep Style Discovery event also had no missions.
We do have the Good Sleep Day on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, though.
>>
>>58344281
Good Sleep Day should also make it easier to see undiscovered styles, so that should make things interesting depending on your score and where you land. Maybe Lapis or OGPP for me just because I don't feel ready for Expert GG yet.

Might buy one of the bundles with a camp ticket to hold onto for Amber Canyon's launch.
>>
>>58344628
The M bundle is definitely a good value. The S bundles are worth considering too, even if they don't actually end up implementing an incense-exclusive style.
>>
>>58341746
Usually next to my pillow. Ive been traveling all week and the bed that night was too soft so it kept getting sucked into me
>>
>>58344281
What island? I've been on Taupen and gotten 5 spawns without incense
>>
>>58345931
GG Expert, Natu is eligible to spawn there.
The other option was Lapis Lakeside, but I wanted to build my expert bonus at GG.

Natu shouldn't be spawning at Taupe Hollow though? Even with the event, some previous events made Pokémon temporarily available at some maps.
>>
>>58346059
Yes sorry I meant lapis not taupe.
>>
I'm just going to skip dinner to try and stock up a few ingredients, ending at just below 3.5m on Lapis with an occasional swap to make the closest-available recipe. Finally got to debut my Blaziken, but I think my usual score is around 2.8m, so about a 20% boost overall. The fact that the extra berry was excluded from sneaky snacking seems like an oversight though, as you basically don't get the bonus during your sleep. Their inventories fill up faster with the +1 berry, but then you're essentially back to default once that happens, potentially losing the bonus for up to at least a few hours per day.
>>
>>58346931
I didn't really calculate if I was losing strength to sneaky snacking, but I did get 2.5m strength from berries alone last week.

One of the consequences of the +1 berries was that berry specialists hit carry capacity much faster than normal. This would actually reduce the ingredients they gather, though my expert effect was +1 ingredients so it kinda balanced out if I checked the app frequently enough.

Got stiffed hard on expert GG this week; steel / ground / dark with berries effect, salads.
I have some high level steel and dark types but they're all ingredient specialists I have absolutely fuck-all for ground types, no Mudkip worth investing in yet.
With a GCT active I'll probably still manage to hit master 3, at least, but it's going to be a rough week.
>>
>>58342714
>I got really, really bad rolls the first two times
I don't know if i consider there to be bad rolls at this point in expert. Every bad roll is just an opportunity to level up understrength berries

Like if you were doing a legendary event where you need manes, then yes, bad rolls exist. But for an event where they just boost berries? Heck yeah, boost my shit pokemon so I'm not entirely crippled on the "bad" roll. Help me get some exp on my poison type
>>
>>58347987
You say that like I actually have a ground type Pokémon that I can justify powering up in the slightest. I checked, the few Digletts and Cubones I have, all have really bad spreads or sabotaging natures.

I was looking through my storage earlier though, and I have a couple of surprisingly good bug type candidates to power up for Amber Canyon, so that's where my candy boosts are going this week.

With Amber Canyon coming up, it'd be worth taking a look what worthwhile bug or poison types you might be holding onto.

This is what I currently have earmarked for candy boosting.
>>
>>58350459
I'm practically set already. Unfortunately all Poison types kinda suck ass. Dragon and Bug are going to be pulling most of the weight unless we get a good Poison type in the next month. Toxtricity is good on paper, but it requires 2 slots for Plus/Minus to actually be useful. Main point against Poison types is that they're all pretty slow.
>>
>>58349527
I don't know what to do with candy boost. Should i max out ingredient specialists or boost my berry pokemon?
>>
Most of my existing friends seem to have stopped using the app. Could you add me?
0314-1053-9344
>>
>>58351791
Unless you REALLY need the level 60 ingredient, I don't think I would actually rush anything to 60. Since normal costs already jump up pretty high after 50, candy boost is just going to tear through any Dream Shard bank you might have. And with Amber Canyon coming up too, more pot size upgrades should accompany it that need millions of shards each.
Additionally, while berry power increases on an exponential scale, I don't think candy boosting is the answer there either. Even if it's technically best to use candies sooner than later to save on Dream Shards, just normal candy feeding is good enough if you aren't planning on training up another of the same species anytime soon.

I have a little over 3m shards, but I expect that to be depleted if I upgrade the pot as soon as it unlocks. That said, I don't think the next few levels will actually let you cook any of the bigger recipes without skills/event bonuses, so you could hold off and not really harm your potential cooking gains very much.

I'm actuality struggling a bit to use the candy boost. I have little to no candies for the mons I really want to boost like Farfetch'd, and other I'm still looking for an actually good version of others like Braviary.
>>
>>58353376
your handy candies? your type candies?
>>
>>58353392
Good idea, I totally forgot about type candies, and that also reminded me that I do actually have a pretty good Dratini for the new island, so at worst I'll just boost that every day. Thanks, anon.
>>
I upgraded my phone and found out that my new one doesn't heat up like crazy when this game runs, so I can start (over) playing.

How much do you have to sleep per night for your pokemon to recharge?
>>
>>58353540
Why not just transfer your account?

Anyways, when you wake up, Pokemon recover 1 Energy for every Sleep Point you get. Sleep points max at 100 per 8.5hr of tracked sleep. So... about 5 minutes per point?
Pokemon also drain at a rate of 1 energy per 10 minutes even while you sleep, so unless you go to sleep with your Pokemon at above 50 energy, you'll need the full 8.5hr to recover all of their energy.
>>
>>58353809
I only ran it one night, right when it released, and never linked the account. Only loss I can think of was that I recorded the standing riolu sleep style my first night.

I was worried that energy recovery was exponential, since I've been sleeping 3 hours or so at a time and my Pikachu died pretty fast
>>
Which species are you waiting on? Ironically I do already have a Gardevoir and Gengar at levels 60+ already. I I'm open to upgrading to a super speedy BFS Gengar if one comes around though. The power gains over a non-BFS are pretty substantial especially with Expert Mode on the table.

>>58353376
Surely there's something you can put candies into. Even something prospective, you can use candy boost to bump it up through the lowest levels for a rather low cost.
>>
>>58354624
After a year i do not have a single usable berry pokemon for taupe hollow.
>>
>>58355443
I only got mine a few months apart recently, and I'd been playing since launch. I got a good Torchic on my first capture, but I'm 40-in on Pichus and still haven't got one. So uh... Just keep trying I guess.
>>
>>58356219
I'm trying alright
>>
>>58356744
It might take going to Taupe to find good Taupe helpers.
You can also consider taking a good Pupitar to Taupe whilst you raise it up to a Tyranitar.
>>
>>58355443
One of the weird problems with GG expert, is that despite being very well prepared for every island so far, I'm woefully unprepared for bad berry rolls.

>Cyan Beach
I've got great water options, but not flying or fairy (aside from Wigglytuff).
>Taupe Hollow
It's all fire, I've no worthwhile Onix or Swampert.
>Snowdrop Tundra
I've got a good spread of Dark, Ice, and Normal types, but nothing optimised.
>Lapis Lakeside
My grass and fighting types are strong but my only decent psychic option is a BFS Gardevoir.
>Old Gold Power Plant
A very strong Electric team and a good Gengar, a decent Aggron for sausage farming only.
>Amber Canyon
Some decent Bug type options that haven't been powered up, but at least have a BFS mono-coffee Vikavolt. Fuck-all for Poison besides a shiny Toxicroak, and a mono-herb Dragonite in a cooking meta where herbs aren't so useful right now.

Expert visits keep falling through the cracks with a weird proclivity to give me the least workable berries like poison, steel, and ground, whilst avoiding giving me one of the three E4E healer types (Fairy, Psychic, Electric). Even if I roll one of my stronger berries like grass, fire, or water, I'm still suffering a hindered E4E healer.
>>
Only types I'm currently missing bfs berry finders for atm are rock and dark, however some of them are only bfs and nothing else, so I'd like to at least optimize them a bit before I pull the trigger on investing

On snowdrop this week, hoping I can find a good sneasel and rufflet, and maybe a better alolan Vulpix. Funnily enough I've never encountered an alolan Ninetales, one of the big reasons why I even decided on snowdrop for the GSD sleep style bonus + the event week
>>
Got excited for a second...

Even if max speed can match BFS alone, it immediately loses out once you get BFS + any speed. I think it could actually make out ahead during another +1 berry event, but BFS really is make-or-break for a berry farmer.

>>
>>58358493
It all depends on how many you have missing and if your score can accommodate them. I think I got an Alolan Vulpix and Natu style that I didn't have. All the 3rd stage evolution stuff probably won't show up for me until the final day.
>>

>>
>>58361059
They stole my sleep research one too many times. Also I'm half wondering what the time limit on it actually is. Potentially 100 years or whatever they devs like to put for "indefinite" expiration dates.

The may eventually increase EXP gains for lower levels like they did up to level 30, or they could substantially increase any shard/candy rewards we typically get. I don't really expect level 100 to be achievable without great effort though, since that basically marks the end of the game.
