Legacy and vintage are too prohibitively for the average person to play.WotC's solution to this was to double down on premium direct-to-consumer products to target people who play Commander, seemingly the only popular format left in the game. They've done shitloads of collabs with different IPs like Spongebob and Lord of the Rings and Assassin's Creed and a bunch of other shit. Some of these collab sets have been very lucrative (Final Fantasy and LotR for example) while other sets have been complete duds (like Assassin's Creed and Spider-Man).The end result is Magic selling its soul and de-emphasising the original characters and worlds of the series in favour of whoring itself out to whatever IP wants to get printed on some cardboard. From a design perspective, they just keep whiffing on designing interesting and balanced set in terms of gameplay. There was a 7-8 year period where there were ZERO bans in standard and now cards get banned every couple of months because WotC stopped giving a fuck about testing cards before they print them.TLDR: Shitty collabs and terrible game design are killing Magic.

What's considered "broken" in the Pokémon TCG?
I like putting each print, variant, and alternative art work beside each other.I feel like it creates a more spread out balance as you turn through the pages. If you go purely by set number it makes all the good cards sit at the back. And the rest of the standard cards in set just skippable. Its kinda nice having similar cards beside each other like Kangaskhan ex to see the subtle difference in art.

I like the love 151 Pidgey got, the league variant and the shiny paldean fates reprint. Pidgeotto also got a little bit of love, pidgeot not so much, I think obsidian flames pidgeot put the 151 to shame in terms of playability.The blastoise obviously makes this page an eye catcher. The stellar crown reprints make it a neat side by side comparison. Then the caterpie IR just adding additional interest.

This page in my binder has a couple cool things to note.First off, the Poliwhirl IR is amazing, like tears in the rain all these memories are lost to time.The Abra promo has a regular cosmos & "HD" Cosmos variant, we also got a shiny reprint in Paldean Fates. Lots of Abra love in this set.Kadabra, for whatever reason, only has a regular cosmos foil, no "HD" cosmos variant is currently known to exist. There has been one spotted in Portuguese, but this is an English collection. We did get a shiny paldean fates reprint. Super cool to see so much Kadabra love, since this is the set Kadabra made his big return after Uri Gellar gave up his lawsuit victory over the pokemon company. Little historical note there. Then we got the Alakazam regular ex and blackstar promo alternative art work, and another foil variant without star foil.The ultra rare got some love with a shiny reprint in fates.And of course the SIR. Beautiful. Little alchemy shop vibe.Then we got the machoke IR, which continues an ongoing cameo appearances of pidgey throughout the 151 set. (More pidgey love).

The Arbok ultra rare is an often over looked and forgotten card, but it definitely helps break up the monotony of standard cards here.Pikachu, has a bunch of variants, the reverse cosmos holo from the costo 151 tin bundle, the confetti foil from McDonald's Happy Meals, The advent calendar snowflake stamp pikachu, then the Pokemon Together stamped promo from the uk mail promotion/ pokemon center purchase bonus promotion. Then we have the beautiful Pikachu IR, which continues the repeating Pidgey cameos throughout the set. Also numerous cameos here. Butterfree, Nidoran M&F, Psyduck, Mr. Mime, Slowpoke, Blastoise, Growlithe, Gengar, Jigglypuff, and a portion of caterpie. The last neat little notes are that we got a raichu reprint in paldean fates, which came with a shiny raichu.
