He doesn’t seem like he’d be a good Aether admin long term, with Lillie filling that role better. As another anon said, Guzma would be interesting as a champ (maybe throw a Buzzwole on his team to beef it up). Plumeria as Kahuna of Ula’Ula also makes sense if you enough time’s passed for Nanu to want to retire. The general vibe of Team Skull (well, New Team Skull post-game) looking out for the outcasts/losers seems very Kahuna-y, and gives an excuse for you to go to Po Town (if they’re not villains of course).

Problem being there isn't a giant multi region spanning conquering empire in Pokemon. So, I'd propose this theory. The addition of the year is a recent thing, like 500-600 years ago or a little earlier. Some scholars got together and decided to base year 1 on the formation of the planet. Positing it as, if various religions claim that Groudon or Kyogre were responsible for the creation of the planet, then it can't be that old since they are still around and they could just be really long lived Pokemon. Of course they were horribly incorrect on the age of the planet but no one really objected to it at the time and just went with it. Nowadays, it's a subject of ridicule but no one has proposed a better solution so it stuck. Not to mention the hassle of changing everything to line up with a new calendar.
