it's not bad at all. Psyshock is OP and Heat wave is a huge ranged AoE. It has access to dual screens too. do HP/SpATK evs since it has good baseline speed.

I'm not a great judge of it since I've been doing a lot of shiny hunting and havent beaten the game yet, but If you mostly focus on the story it seems pretty close to the end. They kind of intend for you to use the Kalos starters you get from sidequests. Maybe if you save doing side quests until you get access to 17 you could get decent use out of it though. I'll say they kinda fucked over Chespin with it's spawning though. Froakie and Fennekin have guaranteed spawns while Chespin shares it with 3 Diggersby that usual spawn instead. I reset for awhile and only got 1 alpha Chespin I need so far for my alphadex. Honestly I'd go as far to say it's one of the least common alphas in the game.

Can anyone trade me a Froakie? Any Froakie at all, really. I want to use it already, not wait until it's available later

Yeah, vitamins take care of EVs. You can use the Rust Syndicate Office to reset a mon's EVs if they're messed up.
Exp candy is good for levels which is important for PvE. But yeah, EVs are more important for making your mons actually strong. Max HP EVs + Max Main attack stat EVs seems to be the meta right now since speed only affects the cooldown timers, not actual movement speed or casting speed.
Hyper training is simple. It just makes your mons just straight up stronger. Save it for when you're absolutely sure you want that mon on your online team since bottle caps can be a pain to get.

I tried jumping into online immediately and got greeted by Excadrill and Gyarados megas tearing my early pokemon a new asshole.

Does anyone else besides me opt to NOT mega evolve for ranked online battles? I do just fine without mega evolutions - always get 1st or 2nd place. Sure, mega evolutions give your mon huge stat buffs obviously, but by the time you get in for an attack, you get one attack off then end up getting ganked from behind or die in the clusterfuck. A standard held item offers more value than a mega stone IMO. I suppose whats good about mega evolving is the few seconds of invulnerability while transforming but I can still live without it.
